What our customers say about their holidays

    • Stephen - Verified booking

The cottage on our arrival was ridiculously hot, there were radiators turned up to the highest setting in every room, which was odd because it wasn’t cold outside.

This made the cottage far too hot for about 24 hours and ruined our first nights sleep. The doors to the cottage don’t close easily. I couldn’t close the front or back door, both required my husband to do it with force. The wood in the doors has warped due to the damp and age of the cottage. There were small brown moths in every room, mainly around the windows, but also on the walls. We had to dispose of 50+ moths throughout our stay, it was horrible. Every morning we’d wake up to more moths in every room. There was also a lot of spiders, but this wasn’t as much of a problem as the moths, because they don’t fly about your head. The beds and pillows were uncomfortable and made sleeping difficult. But what really spoiled a good nights sleep was that there were no curtains to draw across the windows to keep the rooms dark. The light was streaming through some very old blinds. One of the blinds in the main bedroom had a broken pelmet when we arrived, the bits of which were on the tall drawer unit in the corner. We didn’t spend a great deal of time in the cottage because of the issues mentioned above, but if we had wanted to, the one sofa, angled oddly away from the tv wouldn’t have made things easy for my family to gather around anyway. We feel really mislead by the photos on the website and the description of the cottage. With the Smeg fridge freezer and the smart kitchen worktop and units, you expect a little bit of comfort and luxury and what you get isn’t like that at all. The floors were dirty, so we had to walk around in crocs all the time. Some of the other cottages around ours had very obviously had money and time spent on them to make them far more acquit accommodation. We looked online when we got home and found that for the same cost as your cottage we could have stayed in far nicer places and so we feel really let down. We actually came back a day early on Friday because our daughter was so upset at night, not wanting to sleep in a room full of moths and spiders. It’s the first family holiday we’ve been able to afford in two years and the only holiday we’ll have this year so the disappointment is huge. We now need a holiday to recover from the holiday, for all the wrong reasons. Really we feel we should get some compensation, but in this day and age we won’t hold our breath.

      Little Haven is just that.

. a little haven. It’s perfectly furnished with everything you could need in a home from home. The bed is so comfortable we had to force ourselves to get up in the mornings. The bedrooms are well furnished, and spacious. The shower is a powerful one which was needed after a day at the beach; so close, only a short drive ( 20 minute walk) away. Now to the garden, delightful to sit out in on warm evenings, or like us early mornings with a coffee and it is a completely safe space for your dog; fenced and gated accordingly. Information regarding the appliances is in a plastic folder should it be needed. All basis covered! There was even a good supply of logs and firefighters (with matches) to start you off. The living room furniture is very comfortable, and the television is a good size (very rare!) not one of those small ones! The icing on the cake for us was the quick response from the owner Caroline, when there was a power cut, who answered the phone after the first ring; and put our minds at rest, keeping us informed for the duration of the power cut. All in all I cannot recommend Little Haven highly enough. We will be back, not only is it easy to get to but if you enjoy watching wildlife it’s the perfect spot.

What a great cottage this is to stay in.

It has a lovely cosy feeling about it and the facilities inside are excellent. On arrival we were greeted with a welcome pack which helped set the tone for an excellent week’s stay. The kitchen appears to be fairly new and has everything you could need if you want to eat in. The bathroom is very nice too as are the bedrooms. Outside there is an enclosed, private garden with a grassed area and a patio/seating part too. The front is a shared courtyard. The location is approximately a 5-minute drive from Bamburgh which makes it an excellent location for the beach, the castle, the restaurants and the ‘must try’ ice-cream! If you prefer to go off the beaten track the cottage is situated on one of the back roads so its perfect for exploring some of rural Northumberland and keeping away from the crowds. We would definitely recommend this cottage for all the reasons above but also for the excellent communication from the owner and the fact that she permits dogs to bring their owners to stay too.

Firstly the property is in an amazing location. Tucked between the local butcher and a pub both of which are really nice. Can't fault the view of the castle or beach access when you walk out the front door. Inside it is set up to accommodate 8 people comfortably with 4 en suite bedrooms. 8 seater dining table and chairs. Lounge space for 8 as well. Kitchen is large enough though some may struggle with size of fridge freezer if planning on cooking every day. We didn't so it wasn't an issue. The snug room was an added bonus. The heating wasn't working in one of the bedrooms but I have no doubt the owners will sort it. They allow 2 exceptionally behaved dogs. Pets are not allowed in the bedrooms or on the sofas. So we ended up putting our dog into kennels as I knew we wouldn't be able to abide by their rules. It wouldn't put us off staying there again. Overall we would highly recommend.

Little Haven was perfectly located and equipped for a lovely stay.

We felt at home straight away. It was a nice surprise to find a secure garden for our dog to explore safely. It was only a few minutes drive or 20 min walk from to Bamburgh that has great pubs, a butchers and Pantry store. The beach is great for long walks overlooked by the castle. Lord Crewe pub was our favourite and the Potted lobster restaurant for seafood lovers. The copper kettle cafe has delicious cakes ! Seahouses is worth visiting where there are regular boats trips to the Farne islands. Barter Books in Alnwick , Cragside (NT) and Floor’s Castle were lovely trips out. The Barn at Beal and Carnaby’s are both lovely for coffee or lunch. We’ve had a lovely time and will definitely be back
