The cottage is set in a great location within Cullercoats.

Minutes’ walk from the local beaches and local amenities. 5 minute walk to the Metro station which is ideal if you planning a trip to Newcastle and other areas. The cottage downstairs is spacious and ideal for couples. The only problem is the front door does not open or lock from the inside which is an issue getting to and from the car etc this needs to be resolved (we are a bit disappointed as a previous review had already highlighted this problem) not sure how the door issue would stand with health and safety of the property. the multi fuel burner is very cosy I would suggest some tools to help with the fire (tongs etc) The upstairs main bedroom is a good size with plenty of space to store your clothes, the bed is a good size and comfortable however the damp patch on the ceiling is not a nice thing to wake up to also you just need to remember the low ceiling if you wake up in the night. the second bedroom with two single beds is cosy. The kitchen is clean and narrow and as most of the implements you would require to cook although it does lack a corkscrew and bottle opener, the damage to the ceiling could do with some repair. The toilet and bath/shower room are at the end of the kitchen it is clean and cosy, however the water temperature is tepid at best not ideal a very quick shower is best. Overall, the cottage is great.

Lovely house in a great location!

Generally well presented but could to with a little more attention to detail (or additional time for paid cleaners?) in some areas on the cleaning. Kitchen was reasonably well equipped but lacking oven gloves, and a few more bowls and cutlery would have been handy. The towels could do with a bleach too, or if using eco friendly washing products it may be wise not to have 'white' ones... The issue with the bedroom door handles provided us with a good laugh the first morning but is actually serious and needs addressing. People cannot get out of bedroom 2 if bedroom 1 door is shut as the handles cannot pass each other. Bedroom 1 needs to leave the door 'pushed to' rather than closed to get around this. Previous guests had left a soaking wet tea towel inside the closed washing machine so it was smelly! machine cleaning cycle run - sorted... and done a fairly rubbish job of cleaning crockery too, but putting it through the dishwasher solved this... Some people!? On the more positive side the cottage is full of character, the space is lovely and comfy in the main living area, and the shower is instant and always warm. Neighbours were quiet and the location is second to none for access to local shops and beach. Great to have the enclosed yard space for the dog to safely go out too. We would stay again :)

The cottage was in a great location, the beds were comfy, the living space generous and it was mostly well equipped.

However, the dishwasher wasn’t working and obviously hadn’t been used for a while due to condition inside. There was no information to say it wasn’t so we wasted quite a lot of time trying to get it to work. Couldn’t get through to Sykes and there were no other contact details. Someone arrived on our last day to replace it but said they had been told the cottage would be empty. Also there was no green bin outside for the external rubbish and no way of reporting this. It looked as though previous guests had been using the recycling bin for all rubbish so it was getting really full. We were worried this would not be collected on collection day but luckily it was, perhaps as we had only used it for recycling thereafter. The cottage appeared clean and tidy but we soon realised that there was quite a lot of dust. The bathroom door didn’t shut. Overall we enjoyed our stay but with a bit of attention to maintenance, cleanliness and communication it could have been a lot better.

This was a lovely cottage for two and we had a great stay.

the accommodation was comfortable and surprisingly spacious and the kitchen was equipped with all we required for our stay. Beds were very comfortable, the shower was simple to use and all was clean and ready for our arrival. A few things would have made our stay even better: 1) there were no directions sent re parking which is not actually on Simpson St itself and we located it thanks to the help of a neighbour. Directions would have been helpful. 2) the lack of side tables in the lounge area made it difficult to relax with a glass of wine or cup of tea as there was nowhere else to place them but on the floor. 3) some of the instructions in the manual in the cottage were lacking - e.g. there was no detail as to what rubbish or recycling went in which bin; no details re how the thermostat controlling the heating worked. Finally, we discovered when attempting to put the heating on one evening that the thermostat unit's batteries were dead and needed replacing.

Property is not easy to find, no clear signpost of where the property is and which parking spaces were ours.

A kind neighbour helped us and told us parking Bay 6 and 5 was ours. The cottage advertises 3 parking spaces which is partly why we chose this cottage as we were meeting with family so we were quite dismayed on the Sunday when we were challenged about parking in bay 5 by someone claiming that this is a space that their son normally parks in. Has this cottage got 3 parking spaces or not? The key safe came completely off the wall when trying to access the keys, broken lamp in the twin room and the downstairs television was impossible to get working. We did email the owners on Friday and they did get back to us on the Monday but we were back home then. However this is a nice cottage tucked away in a quiet area so a shame it lets itself down in a few areas. This would have been an ideal cottage for us to come to regular for meeting family but will not stay again due to the parking debacle.
