"There was no garden and for 4 adults and 2 children accommodation was quite cramped. There was no tumble dryer. I have stayed in several cottages in Northumberland and have a good reputation for leaving the property in good order and clean. In fact cottage owners have said they would be happy for us to return. Having booked late this year I could not get into our usual haunts. I found the attitude of the landlady on our departure quite unacceptable. The landlady turned up early (before 10) on our day of departure. I had cleaned and cleared all the bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen. I explained that with the small children we had taken a little longer to pack up. Instead of starting to clean upstairs or in the kitchen the landlady started to vacuum over my belongings that I had stacked on the floor near the door ready to pack into my car and implied that I could have been more efficient and managed my grandchildren better, and that my daughter, who had taken them for a walk could have been more helpful. I was then asked about breakages. A small piece of plastic had come off the fridge door. I was told that that piece could not be replaced. I pointed out that it had previously been repaired. Then I was told that the shower was broken, implying that I was withholding information. Having had a shower that morning I did not know what she was referring to. In fact it was a small plastic clip that held the shower head in place. I said I knew nothing about the breakage and was told that this must have happened during our stay as they had checked it before we occupied the cottage. It would have been a matter of pence to replace. I put my possessions in the street to pack my car and after picking my grandchildren up I drove to Alnwick and was having coffee by 11, so although my eventual departure was a little delayed it was not excessively so and I would have been earlier if I had not bothered cleaning up behind me. It was an unpleasant experience. I realised when I got home and unpacked that we had a key which I posted back to her. I f I had not felt compelled to leave in such a hurry I would not have missed this."

"Amblers Rest is an ideal location, very welcoming and has a very high standard of cleanliness and the double bed we slept in was extremely comfortable. Every item had been thought of with consideration, every detail of items needed when away from home had been considered . Everything 'on the doorstep' - short walking distances and minutes from beaches and links walks, local shops, post office, small harbour with crafts and gifts shops, fresh fish foods and meals at the harbour , marina and town centre with range and variety of shops, garden centre , banks and local amenities. Didn't need to go away from Amble as there was so much to enjoy , we enjoyed walks along river at Warkworth and have visited other areas in Northumberland in our many previous stays in Northumberland. Amblers Rest is a great place if you are looking for a base to explore Northumberland or a place to ' stay put' and enjoy everything on the doorstep. Our dog had a great holiday too - everywhere and everyone we met - all very dog friendly including the beaches, coasts and links walking areas. A very relaxing , refreshing and enjoyable break. Thankyou .Highly recommended."

"Amblers Rest is a small terraced house with backyard where the refuse and recycling bins were kept. Parking is on the street but this was not a problem when we stayed and the neighbours were quiet. It's ideally situated for exploring Amble town with the sea, harbour and shops just a short walk away. It is clean, the kitchen is modern and well equipped with dishwasher and washing machine should you need them. Bathroom and downstairs toilet a bit dated and the over bath shower is not efficient . Plenty of clean Towels were available but we took our own. The beds were clean but very very firm and nice bed linen provided. Notices around the house giving information and reminders of house rules The house served its purpose as a ideal base for exploring the area and we were out and about most of the time. Only a feature fire in lounge which lights but doesn't heat which was a shame as it would have been cosier at night with an additional heat source though house does have central heating. You have to hand over a cheque for £50 on arrival which will be destroyed by landlady if property left in acceptable condition after you leave.."

"This was the second time we've stayed at Swallow Barn in the last few months as we had a few family celebrations and we were quick to book the second after our first experience. The accommodation suited 10 of us well and the kitchen and living areas are large enough that you never feel cramped. The swimming pool is small but perfect for our young children and the snooker and football tables were also much used (although the pockets of the snooker table do need patching up!) and the large number of board games also welcome. The location is easily accessible from North and South and only minutes from the M40 but feels like it's in the middle of the countryside, it's also only 10 minutes from Banbury with large supermarkets should you need to stock up."

"Good location for getting to lots of attractions, especially the Northumberland Coast AONB. Best equipped self-catering kitchen I've ever used, and I didn't have to start by washing everything. Sitting room was comfortable and the dining room very agreeable. Beds comfy too! Amble has everything you really need and the cottage is conveniently located to walk to everything. Sit for a while outside the new café on the harbour and you'll soon slow down to 'holiday pace'. The stairs in the cottage are quite long, but there are handles on each side. Very helpful to have a downstairs toilet. Neighbours are quiet, so there is no disruption to your peace and quiet. Surprised that this is a dog friendly house as there was no trace of dog smell anywhere."
