What our customers say about their holidays

    • Confirmed Guest - Verified booking

A last minute holiday and we did enjoy our stay. However, this is the only rental cottage ( we have stayed in many ) where there was no tea, coffee and sugar. Not all places have milk but most do, and usually a welcome pack. Luckily we had brought our own and also food for our meals for the first few nights. Alistair had told us that the main supermarkets were in Dumfries - I had already researched this, so planned in advance. The cottage is quaint within a converted stable block being so old and it was very unusual not to have a stand up shower but we knew this on reading the description. The flies were a total nuisance when preparing food and there were lots of dead flies on the window ledges. Perhaps some sort of 'fly catcher' could have been installed. There was no bathroom cleaner - only one anti-bacterial cleaner in the kitchen, which I took upstairs to use. Also, it would be better if the refuse bins were not opposite the kitchen window. Talking to Wayne was a pleasure, hearing the progress made so far and future plans.

We all had a great holiday in a lovely clean, bright + roomy bungalow in a very peaceful setting. Very well appointed. Being such a bright house, would perhaps recommend an eye mask, (if very early morning light bothers you) as the window blinds in the bedrooms aren't enough to fully darken the room on sunny mornings. Having had lovely weather, the spacious decking at the front made for a very comfortable + relaxing space, with beautiful views. We took advantage of the inclusive golfing offer at the nearby Colvend Golf Club. A very well maintained course, with pleasant challenges + amazing views. As mentioned in previous reviews, the entrance gate is a little narrow. We had a Hyundai Tuscon + had about 2-3 inches clear either side. Rockcliffe is a lovely little village, with scenic walks, including one to the nearby village of Kippford, where there are a couple of eateries and coffee shop. Would definitely recommend Firpoint as a holiday rental, we will certainly be back.

Cleanliness was superficial in places and things like the oven needed a good clean to be useable. Water pressure for showers could be better. There were no instructions with the central hearing and hot water system which was not working when we arrived and required a phone call from a plumber to rectify the following day although the owner did attend to this very quickly. The mattress in the small double bedroom was most uncomfortable as were the settees. There is an annoying buzz in the hall and twin bedroom seemingly in the roof space. Otherwise the property was well equipped and in a lovely setting with all utensils etc. that we needed. We would have liked more information in the online write up about the TV arrangements and would probably not have booked the property if we had known that all it provided was freeview (ie no DVD player or other TV options).

An absolutely stunning property in every aspect.

Attention to detail is first class. An elevated position above Lock Ryan, with many great local walks along the beach or further to Lady Bay or even to Crosswell Lighthouse. Portpatrick is approximately 40 minute drive and very much worth a visit. The property is very spacious, well equipped and its been designed with great thought and attention to quality. Clearly aimed at the larger parties up to 8 guests, we had 6 and plenty of room for a very comfortable stay. The package of goodies and key supplies left by the owner was truly amazing in terms of quality and quantity. Several of my family are keen Pool players and the Table and equipment are of a very high standard. I have been using Sykes properties for many years and stayed in many great properties. This overall is the best to date. Brilliant stay and great value.

Groom's Cottage provided us with a warm, comfortable and well equipped base within the grounds of Arbigland House. We, and our dogs, particularly loved the peaceful setting and the ready access to woodland, developing gardens and beach. However, it was the people who made our stay here so special. Alistair and Wayne were wonderful, welcoming hosts ensuring we had all we needed throughout our stay. We loved hearing about their vision for the house and garden and greatly applaud their enthusiasm and determination. Also thanks to Peter the gardener who spent a lovely evening with us over a cup of tea. We loved our stay here. So much so, we will be returning in May to see the gardens in full bloom and to once again enjoy the location and the warm welcome extended by Alistair, Wayne and Peter.
