What our customers say about their holidays

    • Kay - Verified booking

Many thanks for a wonderful stay.

The cottage was in a superb location and we spent the week walking the coast path from Porlock to Ilfracombe. We were unable to get the televisions working or the video player but once we had established how to connect the cables, we found the signal so weak that we were unable to watch a programme. We realise is not the fault of the owners. We had no problems at all with the cleanliness of the property. Having lived in an old terraced cottage ourselves, we found the same issues at Harbour Cottage as we experienced at home: black sooty like dust escapes from the loft spaces and was to be found on the floors and surfaces in tiny amounts. We have no complaints about this at all - part of the charm of living in a period property and it was evident that the property is cleaned regularly and to a high standard. Thanks for the milk left in the fridge and tea/coffee. This was lovely as we had come on a long journey and arrived late at night. The outside spaces are lovely. A cream tea was enjoyed on the top terrace using the jam left by the owners. Thank you for a lovely stay. Kay and Neerose

We were a group of 7 and really enjoyed our stay here.

It was peaceful, well furnished, walking distance from the coast and there was off road parking. We also really enjoyed the local tea rooms at Town Farmhouse. We were a bit concerned about the hot tub because of a previous review on here, but I spoke to Tracey the property manager for a good 20 minutes before we arrived and she took me through the extensive cleaning process they do for the hot tub for each time new guests arrive and they are very thorough. We used it multiple evenings and had no problems nor were there any smells. Just shower before and after you get in, and if you stay longer than a few days go for the midweek clean - standard hot tub rules which I don’t think the previous guests followed. Only thing worth mentioning is the house is a bit light on basic consumables like washing powder, cling film, loo roll etc so make sure to bring what you’ll need if you’re staying more than a few days. Or alternatively there is a shop just down the road.

      A mixed review.

Great location and the cottage had a well equipped kitchen. The garden is a nice feature and is sunny until the end of the day. However the main bathroom being on the ground floor, while the bedrooms are on the second floor is not ideal. We had the second bedroom set up as a twin room. The room is tiny, you can barely walk around the beds and neither of us could unpack as there was not sufficient storage. The twin beds were incredibly narrow (about the width of a pillow) but the quilts were single size and kept falling off during the night. The ground floor bathroom has no ventilation so it was very steamy and musty. The cottage is nicely decorated and has attractive artwork. Being a cottage there are lots of stairs, so it would not suit elderly people or families with young children. I would recommend the cottage for couples. The proximity to local shops, pubs and the harbour is one of the best things about the property.

So bad we moved out after two days When we arrived at 5pm , we found that heating timer had been switched off and each radiator turned down. No logs left to at least get fire going ( as is common in most other houses) The oven is really difficult to use ( and a number of pans provided don’t work on induction hobs). We worked out that it needed three hours to heat up before it could be used so plans for a meal that night were scuppered Internet was down that after 2 days of chasing marsdens we were told couldn’t be fixed for another 4 days Kitchen is deadly for anyone over 5’ 10” as two low beams right over table and by fridge - a serious accident waiting to happen Asked for more duvets that they sent a mail ( no internet!) to say they couldn’t source

The property was comfortable and in a beautiful location, easily found using satnav and the postcode provided.

The owners were welcoming and provided information about the property on arrival. I would have liked some kind of 'welcome pack' with instructions of how to leave the property on departure. I appreciated the bowl of varied drink sachets next to the kettle meaning we could have a cuppa before we unpacked. Small issues were resolved immediately. The dogs had a great stay; a fenced patio area outside with access to 2 enclosed paddocks where they could run off lead and a poo bin. They enjoyed their walk around the fishing lakes on their leads with the moors to explore around the property. Highly recommend this place for dog owners and older families/ couples.
