What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mrs Dickens - Verified booking

We enjoyed our stay at July cottage, despite some cleanliness issues which we have raised with the owner separately. The location in the village is lovely, on a very sweet pedestrianised lane, and the village itself is about 20mins from Saunton, Woolacombe and Ilfracombe, using narrow country roads mostly. The space is well organised and decorated, and we had most things we needed for our stay. It's worth taking extra logs for the fire - we stayed at the end of summer when days were around 18° and the cottage was chilly at night, probably because it has very thick walls, so we needed the heat of the fire. Accessibility notes as someone who has mobility issues with a knee injury - there are steps between the main bedroom and bathroom once you're upstairs. The shower screen opens outwards into the bathroom to allow more space to climb in and out of the bath. A non-slip bath mat is provided. There are a couple of types of cobbles on the wall from the car park to cottage, and the ground is generally uneven. I found these cobbles slippery in wet weather. If you arrive on the dark, make sure you have a torch to walk to the cottage. If you're planning to use the second bedroom as an adult be aware it's a small single bed very low to the ground and isn't particularly comfortable. We would consider returning if assurances were made about the cleanliness issues we've raised.

The cottage was in pristine condition! It was beautifully decorated and furnished, very spacious, immaculately clean. The bed linen and towels were akin to a top 5 star hotel. The welcome hamper left by the owners was gorgeous and extremely generous. Eggs from their own hens were the best ever. The cottage was well heated, with lots of hot water, a dishwasher and a washing machine. The location was isolated and idyllic...only the tweet of birds and the occasional bleat of sheep to break the peace. We went walking over the owners fields, which are mostly left to pasture and are so lovely for walking. No complaints! And this from an EXTREMELY fussy traveller. I could easily make this place my home....if the kind owners would allow?

A lovely and very spacious cottage with very high quality furnishings and fittings. Set in a secluded valley in peaceful surroundings. Friendly and attentive hostess (Elaine) offering a better than usual welcome & package with wine and food. A Roe deer was to be seen in the evenings in a nearby field and on the last day it spent time grazing only a few feet from the cottage door. Good places to eat and a good under-cover market in the nearest town, South Molton. NB Local roads to the property not in good condition (not the owner's fault!) and the post code takes you to the farm on the opposite side of the road so don't miss the entrance!

    • Mrs Pitchfork - Verified booking

The peaceful little cottage was cosy, clean and thoughtfully decorated with some lovely quirky touches. Pretty and comfortable bedrooms. A little dark downstairs, but comfy sofa, log burner and nice little kitchen area with everything you need. Ideal for a couple or family with younger children. Lovely cool seaside colours. No direct access to a garden so dog owners have a short, but safe and quiet, off road walk to the private enclosed garden and the community field beyond. Very quiet village. Friendly pub and well stocked community shop within a few minutes walk. No problem parking. Short drive to amazing beaches.

Very impressed with the whole process from booking to leaving, professional and thought has gone into making our holiday special. Lovely area met some interesting people. Thank you will always consider Marsden cottages first for next break. Marsdens have taken the stress and worry out of booking a cottage, they have provided a beautifully clean well thought out property and even left treats for our dog which was so much appreciate. Booking was painless and it was good to know we could contact someone if we had problems during our stay, which we didn’t. I can not recommend Marsdens enough Thank you.bev.e
