About this property

A stunning historic stone cottage resting in the seaside town of Bamburgh, Charlton Cottage is ideal for a family or group of adults looking to explore the scenery and abundant heritage of Northumberland. Be welcomed into a sitting room where a traditional raised open fire glows from within a fantastic stone fireplace, a real sample of local heritage, with beautiful tartan décor and matching furniture, this is a wonderful space where you can relax with a coffee and a good book. Decorated in a subtle brown and sage interior, the kitchen matches the history of the property with soft natural colour, creating a space for guests to cook together using the many amenities available, and there is a dining table with wicker chairs and lovely double doors opening to let in light and fresh countryside air. Enjoy a relaxing soak in the bath before making your way over to one of the three bedrooms, including two doubles, both charming with storage and homely décor, and a bunk room with two sets of bunk beds, ideal for children. You can enjoy breakfast outside in the courtyard at the dining area. Bamburgh is a fantastic coastal location with so much for guests to enjoy, beginning with the local eateries, where you can enjoy a hot meal in the sunshine with a glass of your favourite beverage, and you can stock up on essentials and sample local produce at the deli and food emporium. Bamburgh has some beautiful coastal walks and there is an increadible sandy beach where you can enjoy a picnic with a view of the ocean as well as trying out wild swimming and watersports. Bamburgh is known for its history, and so a visit to the magnificent Bamburgh Castle is a must. Further from the property you can find a selection of countryside walks including Footsteps in Northumberland and Villages in Time Guided Walks. Explore the history and heritage of Northumberland with a stay at Charlton Cottage.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.

Good quality kitchens and bathrooms, lovely fireplace, comfortable living room and well appointed throughout. An excellent week and would definitely stay here again.

It was dirty. Carpets needed cleaning, the sofa covers were filthy. They are loose covers so why weren’t these changed for clean covers? Bathroom door surrounds dirty. Fittings generally in need of tlc or replacing. Mattress and pillow protectors dirty stained. Large damp issue in double bedroom. Mirror in bathroom tatty all shells fallen off needs disposing. Bins were full of rubbish on arrival and the back yard was muddy! The extractor fan did not work In the shower room. The radiator in the lounge had been broken since Feb 2023 according to the note attached to it! This cottage is priced too high for the condition. It’s such a shame as location and size, layout were perfect for us. However we will not be returning as it was just so dirty we could not relax as we should have been able to do. I have some photos to support these issues if required.
