Enjoy a break by the sea with St. Ives holiday cottages

A break in glorious St. Ives has everything you need for a quintessential seaside holiday.

This charming part of Cornwall has been beloved by visitors for years, attracted to the area for its astonishing natural beauty, golden light, and relaxed, laidback vibe. A particularly warm part of the UK, St. Ives has more than a whiff of the tropics about it, with palm trees fringing the beaches and supremely lush vegetation adding to the effect.

There are also some first-class beaches to discover, with the temperate waters attracting playful dolphins, magnificent basking sharks (don't worry, they're vegetarians!) and seals who like to rest on the rocks.

To complete your trip to this beautiful part of Cornwall, stay in one of our lovely St. Ives holiday cottages. Whether you're travelling with someone special, or a whole gang of your favourite people, we have the perfect St. Ives self-catering property to help you feel at home.

Why choose a St. Ives weekend break or staycation?

St Ives, with its rustic charm, makes an ideal holiday destination for couples, friends, or family who want to spend quality time together.

Nestled on the extreme northwest coast of Cornwall, St. Ives has been an important mining and fishing hub since medieval times. It's also an artist's haven, with painters, sculptors, and other arty folk flocking to this inspirational destination.

The idyllic old town is clustered around the fishing harbour, with quirky, steep, narrow streets winding their way uphill, lined with picturesque shops and cottages.

The beaches in St. Ives are worth the trip alone. Vast expanses of powdery soft white sand and turquoise waters will make you feel like you're in the Caribbean, without having to get on a plane.

St. Ives is flanked by Porthmeor and Porthminster beaches, both of which boast exquisite sand, surfing, excellent restaurants, and charming shops. But it doesn't end there. Porthgwidden, Harbour, Lambeth Walk, and Bamaluz are all within easy walk of the town, with Harbour and Lambeth Walk magically disappearing at high tide.

If you fancy stretching your legs, head on a coastal walk to Carbis Bay and Porthkidney, which offer stunning sandy stretches. If you're bringing your dog, Lambeth Walk and Bamaluz are both pooch-friendly.

To see the whole of St. Ives coastline while putting your feet up, book a boat trip and enjoy the views from the sea. Several operators run boat trips to Seal Island, where you can spot hundreds of adorable Atlantic grey seals, and even dolphins, basking sharks, and humpback whales if you're lucky.

For a spot of culture, add The Tate St. Ives to your itinerary. Opened in 1993, this excellent gallery overlooks Porthmeor Beach and the sparkling Atlantic Ocean. It houses exhibits artwork from the Tate collection of art from the St. Ives School, as well as contemporary exhibitions. The building reflects Cornwall's beauty and is dreamy to walk around.

For more art, head to the Barbara Hepworth Garden, where you can visit a small museum and wander around more than 20 of her incredible sculptures. Hepworth set up her studio in St. Ives and she positioned the sculptures herself.

In addition to some superb attractions, St Ives has some excellent restaurants. If you've eaten more than your fair share of Cornish pasties, you'll find plenty of outstanding eateries that serve fresh fish or local meats and vegetables. You'll even find some fine dining establishments, perfect for a special night out.

Beautiful St. Ives holiday rentals to suit everyone

Enjoy a splendid day relaxing on the beach, tucking into fresh fish and chips, and wandering around quirky streets, before retreating to your charming cottage and relaxing for the night.

From cosy hideaways tucked away in pretty lanes to glorious cottages overlooking lapping waves, each of our St. Ives accommodations has been carefully chosen due to its location, character, style, and comfort.

Choose a holiday home with all the amenities you could want, including fully equipped kitchens, sea views, private driveways, enclosed gardens, free WiFi, ensuite bathrooms, and even hot tubs. Many of our cottages are also dog-friendly, so even your precious pooch can come along to join in the fun.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Carole - Verified booking

We have being staying with Carbis Bay holidays for a significant amount of years, and this is the first time that we feel we have cause to complain.

Photographs and property description are somewhat misleading, especially the ones showing the tables outside, as they face directly on to a road, with no privacy. The small courtyard at the rear was in a untidy state with most of the flower containers having dead flowers and weeds in them. When we arrived the lawn was totally overgrown and the borders needed weeding and a general tidy up. Other points to note:- Toilet roll holders in un-appropriate positions, one of which my husband had to fix. Toilet seat in main bathroom was loose and rotated when you sat on it. One of the oven shelves had brown stuff dried on it and looked like it would drip if warmed up. I noticed the gravy boat in the bottom drawn had brown splashes up one side. The sofa and cushions had seen better days, and one of the remotes looked like it had been chewed. On a safety note I felt the bannister going to the utility area should have been on the left hand side and not the right. Also steps, leading up to property need a hand rail at the beginning. We hope you find these observations constructive, as we wouldn't want other guests to have the same disappointment as we had.

"We had a really fantastic holiday in Waves.

The apartment was everything we expected, and then some, and the views were simply outstanding! The apartment was spotless when we arrived, very well equipped and it had absolutely everything we could possibly have wanted for our holiday. The train into St Ives and St Erth is a must and it is so convenient not having to struggle to find parking. I am sure we did the same things as many of your other guests, trips to St Mawes, Mevagissey, Portreath, Porthcurno etc etc. The Eden project was stunning and we especially liked the Mini golf at Porthminster . Restaurant-wise we tried the Porthminster Beach Café, Waves (how appropriate) and The Seafood Café, all which we thoroughly enjoyed. Beck's fish and chips are also a must (if only they opened on a Monday!). We enjoyed ourselves so much at Waves we asked to extend our stay by four days and this was dealt with very swiftly by your team and we were delighted to be able to stay on. Our whole experience has been a joy, we hope to come and stay at Waves again later on this year." J. Jackson

      What an amazing place!

This is our 25th Wedding Anniversary Celebration break for just the two of us and it could not have been more perfect!! This apartment is absolutely beautiful with the most special view from the private decking. Our daily walks along the beach and paddling in the cool crystal clear seawater was idyllic. We recommend: • The walk to St Ives and back. • Train journey to St Ives or St Erth and onto Penzance for shops. • Carbis Bay Hotel (delicious crab risotto – beach restaurant). • Breakfast bagels in St Ives harbour • Porthminster Beach – saw the seals swimming. • Portggwidden Beach Café Bar – lovely on the beach • The Loft Restaurant – seafood chowder can recommend • The Host restaurant, St Ives • Pednolva Hotel (revisited after 18 years) Big thank you to all people who rent this apartment! People who look after this apartment and look after the décor and attention to detail – so clean!! Thank you all xx

"My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful holiday, Waves lived up to expectation, we travelled by train and this is probably the most well appointed self catering accommodation we have rented in the UK.

I was staggered by the variety of kitchen utensils etc and the whole place was spotless. Out and about we walked to St Ives many times and also to Lelant Saltings - warm welcome and cup of tea at the old station. We booked a day trip to the Scillies with Oates Travel and caught the train to Penzance to see the Olympic torch and then caught up with it again in Marazion. There was also a very warm welcome at the local church over the railway line and up the hill. Then there was the food festival and the farmer's market and the variety of shops and the views.....! . In terms of eating out: Porthminster Beach Restaurant, Sea Food Cafe, Harbour Fish & Chips, Porthmeor Cafe Bar, Becks Fish & Chip Cafe. Other visits to, I should Co Co,The Allotment Deli, Moomaid Ice Cream Zennor - could go on and on!" J. Eden

Another great stay at secret Beach thank you.

My only minor criticisms are that the zip & link bed in the second bedroom is starting to sag on the outside edges and so it slopes very slightly downhill (only really noticeable when you’re lying in it). Having Sky TV is great but we were unable to watch many shows (dramas, comedies etc) before 9pm as a PIN is required for anything other than child-friendly shows. It would also be nice to have the garden gates positioned differently to create a fully enclosed area for the dog to access from the house rather than us having to take him out the house and through the existing gates - not ideal at 6am in the rain! These are however very minor points. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Secret Beach. The house is very comfortable and very well equipped. We’ll definitely be back!
