"In all, we had a great stay at the cottage, the location was great & it was easy to get to the places we wanted to visit. There was though a few things that let us down. When we arrived we noticed that the bins in each of the bathrooms hadn’t been emptied and we noticed that the cottage itself wasn’t that clean. We had an issue with the dishwasher which we reported & this was only looked at the night before we were due to leave. Another grievance was that the farms cat was allowed to wander round & on a few occasions was able to climb through one of the bedroom windows! This caused a bit of an upset with a couple in our group who were woken up at 2am with a cat on their bed! Luckily nobody in our group was allergic or this could have caused some problems! Our biggest problem though was with the owner. She noticed that we had a guest come to stay for one night but rather than come to politely find out what the situation was, she came over & rather rudely spoke to one of our group who is roughly 6 months pregnant. While we understand her postion, the way she spoke to our friend was rude & unacceptable. Our guest ended up going round to their house to apologise for staying & offered to pay for the night which, we worked out should have been roughly £35. The owner decided that £50 was a fair fee to charge which we all thought was rather steep for a one night sleep on a rather uncomfy sofa! In all we had a lovely weekend it was just let down by these issues."

"Maybe we should have looked into the property further but we just didn’t anticipate how far from the main road it was. It became a family joke that it would take 15-20 mins to get back to “civilisation” when we went out, and it was such a drudge when coming back after a day out exploring - there was certainly no popping back out after tea or taking a stroll down to the local! Not having TV or internet didn’t bother us but the feeling of isolation did. Also it’s very important to note that it doesn’t suit a family of four at all (as per the description) unless the two children are under 12 years old. My 15 year old had to sleep downstairs as one of the beds are only accessible to those who are small/short. The double bed has no support to the mattress whatsoever which didn’t suit my husband with spinal issues. In the end we managed to check in for two nights somewhere else and cut our holiday short, so we stayed 4 out of 7 nights at the cottage - we just couldn’t tolerate the isolation any longer. We left a bag of kindling and a bag and half of firewood we had purchased for the next lodgers to enjoy - but be mindful of the fumes which gave us all headache unless we kept the door open! (CO2 detectors are in situ). Not for us. We won’t be returning to Cwm Penmachno!"

"Excellent all round 10 out of 10. Normally my wife does a quick clean when we arrive at a holiday cottage but this was not required as the place was spotless. Perfect for young children (4 and 6). Plenty of parking space for visitors if needed. Plums on tap in the garden. Great location for Conwy, Llandudno, Rhos on Sea, Colwyn bay, Welsh Mountain Zoo, Snowdownia (we did an easy family walk to Aber Falls), Angelsey and with Abergele just a few minutes drive up the road with a decent Tesco and Chinese takeaway. Hosts were friendly, unintrusive, available next door if needed and provided milk, biscuits, tea bag and hot chocolate on our arrival which always gives a good first impression (we have stayed in places that leave nothing all the way to places that leave wine and home made chocolate cake). The only very minor negatives were the plug in the bathroom sink needs fixing as it closes when the tap is on (but we didn't bother the hosts about it) and we were provided with a list of house rules that were fair but probably unnecessary as decent people would know to leave the place tidy anyway (included a strange request to remove the bedding before leaving). Overall I would give this a 10 out of 10 and highly recommend."

"We spent a fab week at this lovely, quirky cottage. The location is great for hill walking, with amazing trails (ie. Snowdonia slate trail) literally on the doorstep. Beautiful place both in the sunshine and under the snow. The cottage was homely, and pet-friendly which was a plus. The logburner will keep you cosy on cold evenings - make sure you have enough wood for the first night though... bring extra clothes in winter, and prepare for (lots of) rain anytime. Don't expect city luxury, shops, tv, phone signal or internet. The equipment is basic, but sufficient. The owner was amazing and handled my silly requests most kindly and efficiently ! Cycling sadly wasn't possible due to the weather, otherwise it should be a great activity in the area. The cottage really is recommended for walkers and nature loving folks, or those who want a break far away from the crowds, in simplicity. We would absolutely love to come back again."

"We enjoyed our Easter weekend in Tan Y Bryn, the village is lovely and the views amazing. There are many places to visit but you do need a car to visit these. The cottage was clean and well equipped. Sadly the weather was not kind to us and the access lane became very muddy and the parking space at the end of the garden was difficult to negotiate due to this, however there is space to park by the wall opposite the front door. Easter Monday morning saw a slight overnight sprinkling of snow which made the scenery even lovelier! The cottage was a short distance from our home which made it ideal for a weekend break and a good base for many of North Wales's tourist spots. In this modern day and age I think WIFI would have been nice, if only to source places to go, but it wasn't a deal breaker for a weekend away."
