What our customers say about their holidays

    • Caron - Verified booking

We have holidayed many times in this area and chose this accomodation for its location and luxury.

The location did not disappoint - 20 min walk to Budle Bay and a good 45 mins walk into Bamburgh or a 5 min car journey. Views are spectalular from the top of the quarry & would thoroughly recommend. The accommodation, although at first glance looks impressive, upon closer inspection it is let down in several areas, which you would not expect at this end of the price range. On a positive note, the mattresses, pillows and duvets were gorgeously comfortable as were the sofas. The smart TV was great, which enabled us to use Netflix - a must for the kids! The hot tub was great (other than last morning) - more than big enough for a group of 8. Other than a pint of milk and 4 individual biscuits, there is no welcome pack. Although this is a "nice to have" this is something I have become used to in other holiday lets (all of which have been less expensive than this one). Some local produce, fruit, juice etc. would be a nice touch. This is something perhaps the owners could look into. Cleanliness is the main issue (also mentiontioned in earlier feedback posts). Cobwebs on windows & ceiling, crockery had to be washed before use, old pair of socks left in one of the top bunk beds under the mattress - not a nice find for the child in the lower bunk (!) In general the whole place needs a good clean. There is no mop or bucket which would be useful and the bedrooms would benefit from a dressing table. A shelf would also be useful in the bathrooms. The front door bell did ring several times for no reason which was a little frustrating. A wider range of cooking utensils is a must - one small frying pan for a group of 8 is not practical by any stretch of the imagination. Hot tub was "topped up" with cold water at 8am on the morning of departure, which made it impossible for anyone to have a "last dip" before the 10am detparture. We had a great holiday in one of our favourite areas despite the points raised above - the lodge is lovely, however couldn't help feeling disappointed.

The grocery welcome pack was a nice and ‘welcome’ surprise.

Hot tub well heated and accessible. Property was clean and tidy inside. However the property in need of some TLC (we had a constant dripping tap in kitchen-not able to be repaired during our stay, despite reporting on arrival, however owner did explain reason for this). Outside of the property needs a bit of a spruce up (lots of cobwebs and general wear & tear, gutter constantly dripping over bifold doors & not able to open bifold doors as they were extremely stiff- we are use to opening them as have them at home!). Lots of dead insects/daddy long legs between shutters/windows in bedroom. Outdoor furniture cushions wet and not able to be used as cover used but not secured & no ability to store cushions inside. Extremely hot and provision of a fan/fans would have been extremely welcome in the heat as the lodge is like a greenhouse with lots of glass. Not able to access outside bins (shed locked with 2 padlocks and no keys provided). Not able to operate TVs in any bedroom & no instructions provided in information pack. Visitor information pack out of date… I.e. states property let by ‘crabtree&crabtree’ not ‘Sykes cottages’, recommends a restaurant in Bamburgh (Mizen Head Hotel) that has been shut down for well over 18 months! Hot tub operational info doesn’t relate to the hot tub in situ.

Bathroom bin hadn't been emptied before arrival of women's sanitary products - clear plastic bag didn't help.

Dining room table surface was sticky which no amount of cleaning resolved. Bedding, cushions and placemats were stained making use very uncomfortable. Whilst it appreciated that pets were allowed, the fact the cottage smelled of wet fur for those who do not have pets is unacceptable. Perhaps the condition of the bedding etc is partly to blame? The cottage needs blinds on its south side, first for privacy and secondly due to sun streaming in onto the TV not allowing the children to see what's on and heat reduction. The aerial didn't work as couldn't even get BBC channels. More care needs to be supplied to ALL guests using their online TV accounts on the smart TV as numerous account were open for potential exploitation!!! Given that COVID allowed the owner to rectify all those sorts of issues before making the cottage available again, makes the whole experience disappointing. Even financially, the cottage was fully booked weeks before our arrival and months thereafter, thus the cost of cleaning and/or replacements, given the cottage price bracket, is unacceptable. Overall, given its potential, a very disappointing experience.

The site is tucked away approximately 2.

25 miles west of Bamburgh Village, and is easy to find. I would suggest to help those who do not have sat-Nav that a sign is positioned either end of the lane to which Brada Lodges sit giving a direction as does the other holiday parks along the lane. The lodge itself is lovely, but would recommend the use of washable paint in areas in heavy use such as the bin area, down the side of hand basins/toilets. Also, the outside of the en-suite shower needs a little attention with a bit of water damage. However, we loved the lodge and its situation in the open countryside, and is an ideal spot as a base to investigate the area further. It’s located close to the historic Bamburgh Castle, it’s beautiful beach and sand dunes, and close to the Farne Islands famous for their wildlife habitats. We loved the place so much we have booked Betony Lodge for August 2023.

      Beautiful property.

Well equipped and comfortable. Thoughtful touches like welcome pack, one for dogs too. We were there for a celebratory 70th birthday BBQ with family found the BBQ to be unusable with food, grease and mold. Took over 5 hours to get a response from onsite maintenance company who just put grids in dishwasher, which still the food, mould etc on the grids. Very upsetting for all. Travelled round trying to buy new one but no avail. Did our best to clean it ourselves. Throughout the day tried to get help from Sykes, still waiting for a reply! Made a formal complaint to Sykes 2nd October, no response. Tried their Wattsap contact line today chasing the complaint, no response. I would recommend the owner stop using Sykes, they treat their customers very badly. Trust pilot reviews are manipulated. Google reviews more accurate.
