"I stayed at Kestrel Cottage with my 96 year old mother in law. I had chosen the property for its wetroom, bedrooms all on one level and it's proximity to Durham. The cottage far exceeded all my expectations. It is much bigger than the photographs suggest, bathrooms, hallways and living area are very spacious. Everything is very new, tasteful and not worn out or shabby. The beds are really comfortable and the linen is good quality. The main living room is south facing so it's light, and bright. The views from the two full length windows are stunning, open fields and countryside. We were visited every morning by two friendly goats at the fence by the patio. Most afternoons we watched parachuters descending to an area about a half a mile away. All most entertaining. We could park at the door which was very helpful as my mother in law couldn't walk too far. In the wetroom there are handles to aid the not so steady. The owner kindly brought us a proper shower seat too, which was so useful.Even though very early in the year we found a lot to do in the area. Durham is nearby, we went several times. I highly recommend the Oriental Museum, we visited the botanical garden, cathedral and castle. The Hartlepool maritime museum was excellent. We went to Gateshead quay. Just a couple of miles away we went to the big outlet shopping centre and the coastal towns and coast road are on the doorstep. All this to do, and then at the end of a busy day out the cottage was a relaxing, warm and welcoming home to come back to.Jean the owner was friendly and helpful, she lives nearby but wasn't intrusive at all. The welcome pack was extremely generous, including eggs, bread, milk. Kestrel Cottage was an excellent choice for our holiday and we were delighted with everything we found there."

"we enjoyed this cottage. it has enough space for our family of 5 (inc teens and young adults) and a golden retriever. the cottage was very clean and had most things we needed for a good stay. the Christmas hamper was fabulous and a nice touch. could have done with more seating in the lounge but we brought in a chair from the hall. bathrooms are modern and 3 toilets is always a bonus with teens!the pale carpets were a challenge to keep clean in a wet, muddy and windy week as our dog loves muddy puddles and racing through waves so we appreciated the outdoor tap and hose and we needed this every time we came in from a walk for cleaning dog and boots.Glad we brought lots of dog towels with us! the garden is not absolutely dog proof if you have a dog who jumps up on walls easily just to see what's on the other side! Our dog got out of the garden on the first day as there is a low wall at one end - no harm done as we supervise our dog at all times. Great to have a field behind the house for the early morning canine walks before breakfast.this house is a great location for both North and South coasts and as we enjoy going to both - the location was good."

"Kestral Cottage, as well as the other two cottages are suitable for disabled users and is a great central position to explore many towns and attractions in the North East. The location is in a quite, pleasant, secure area, and with this you really need a car to get to places. The cottage was fully equip with everything you would need, including a lovely arrival basket ( eggs, bread, butter, milk, jam, coffee, tea, sugar, condiments, and refreshing bottle for those who indulge ) The owners Jean and Amy were very helpful and if you needed anything they would try to sort it for you (although we couldn't think what else would be needed for these cottages.)A lovely time was had and would recommend to everyone.Always keep you camera handy while resting on the patio as curlew and chicks nesting or the odd owl may be spotted."

"Wheal Daniel Cottage was perfect! The welcome basket on arrival was most welcome after a long drive & we were delighted to find such a well equipped, clean cottage, I think just about everything we needed had been provided. It suited our needs perfectly, not easy given our ages ranged from 15 to 75! Although the cottage is very rural, it is very central, we rarely had to drive more than 30 minutes to any of the fabulous places we visited. Jean and Duncan were very friendly and welcoming, they even posted some of my Dads clothes back to us when they discovered he had left them behind. The only minor criticism I have is that there is only seating for 5 in the lounge, although this was easily resolved by bringing in an extra arm chair from the hall. I would not hesitate in recommending this cottage to anyone"

"Lovely cottage, spacious, clean and well-equipped. Cosy and warm once you get the hang of keeping the fire going. Great walks and cycling from the front door, suitable for all levels of fitness and enthusiasm. The local pub, The Angler's Arms, is friendly and good value - good beer and simple food. The café at Kielder Castle also good for lunches and teas. Convenient location for Kielder Observatory. Take all the food and drink you think you will need as the village shop doesn't have much, they ran out of milk while we were there. We were unlucky with the weather - we had heavy rain and some snow but we enjoyed our stay at The Old Post Office anyway. This is our second visit to Kielder and we still haven't spotted a red squirrel. Maybe next year!"
