We had a 7 day pre-Christmas holiday at Primrose cottage, which was a miserable mistake!

First the good parts and there were some:- Nicely decorated and furnished Cottage. Beautiful bedrooms with comfy beds and bathrooms had good showers and baths with plenty of hot water. The hot tub was excellent, privately located and well maintained. Now the not so goodâ¦. 1) Every plate and cup we went to use had food debris on them and all pans were covered in grease. 2) The bedroom light glowed all night even though it was switched off, this issue was first feedback in May but is still not fixed. 3) The road past the cottages has a very high level of speeding traffic night and day and you take a real risk when you pull out onto the road. 4) Finally our main concern was the complete lack of heating upstairs and minimal heating downstairs. After several phone messages to the owner who constantly failed to return our calls or keep us updated. We met the heating engineers on their initial visit they were there for an hour and checked the bio boiler and the heating in the other cottages and said that they were really hot and could not understand why Primrose was not working the same. They turned up the pump speed but that did not improve the heating and they stated that there must be a blockage. We phoned the owner and who said that the engineers would be back the next day at 9:00 we stayed in until 10:30 but no one came. We phoned again that evening as the heating was still not working and the owner said the engineers had been out but she did not know what they had done and would find out, she never came back to us and that is when we contacted Sykes for help. Unfortunately Sykes were of no help and the heating was not fixed during our 7 day stay. We had a cold week there and had to keep the log fire on every evening just to keep a reasonable level of warmth downstairs, upstairs was freezing. This is not what we expected after reading reviews on Sykes website and our issue was not resolved. So be aware; Sykes have no Customer servise, they represent the owners not us customers, they did not resolve our issue and offered us a Â£40 voucher as compensation, which we had already received from our original booking. The owner denied that the heating was not working and all Sykes said was take it up with the Owner!

Firstly I would like to say we really enjoyed our stay the property was beautifully furnished with an impeccable taste and all bedding,towels etc were of excellent quality.

The good quality hand wash and toiletries were an additional touch which was appreciated. We enjoyed the snacks and tea/coffee etc which were left to welcome us. However we had a few issues when compared to our other holiday breaks in the uk; Their wasnât a detailed welcome pack containing information/instructions for operating the central heating or for the fire in the sitting room. The water pressure in the showers is not very good. The main bathroom has no window blind and that is an issue as the window is not frosted. The kitchen did not have a long handled brush, dustpan &brush for general cleaning. The plinth under the kitchen units keeps falling when you open the dishwasher which was something we had to be careful with to avoid it falling on our toes. For some reason there were two greasy roasting tins in the cupboard and one chipped drinking glass. A mat at the entrance would mean we had somewhere to wipe our feet and the floor can be kept clean especially when faced with rainy weather. Lastly the WiFi connection was not very good. Just some points which if rectified would definitely give the property 5 stars.

Linden Barn was the perfect family holiday retreat. The Barn was bright, fresh and comfortable. All the details has been thought of - a high quality welcome hamper, plenty of wood and paper for the log burner, comfortable beds and lots of space for the children including the lovely reading area on the landing. The large utility room was very handy for storing all the walking shoes and coats. The outside space was very inviting, if small, and there were some fresh herbs growing, which we used in cooking. In all, it was a cosy and welcome place to return to after a day's walking. The owners were on hand and very friendly and helpful the couple of times we met them, but left us to enjoy our privacy. The Barn has a fantastic situation, minutes off the M6 and accessible to the nearby Lake District as well as the Northern Yorkshire Dales. We enjoyed varied walks in both areas as well as some walks directly from the Barn itself. The village is delightful to walk around with many little streams, pretty cottages and a beautiful Church. We would highly recommend Linden Barn for a stay in this beautiful area.

I had booked this lovely looking cottage as a surprise for my girlfriend, a two night break with no responsibilities.

We arrived just after 3 on a damp and drizzly Friday afternoon, we were met with the most modern but picturesque news cottages. The reaction on both of ours faces said it all. The retrieval of keys from the key safe was very easy following a simple text from the owner. We entered into the living with utter amazement! Simply home from home! Lovely big sofa and two huge arm chairs. A brilliant kitchen, fully equipped. Even a bottle opener! The bedrooms phenomenal! Views through the velux balcony windows is a brilliant touch of class. I think the bed is one of the comfiest I have ever slept in. The whole renovation is listed in a little pictogram in the living room and it really shows that nothing was spared when they created these homes. Absolutely blown away, couldnât have been comfier. I really donât need to say too much about the Hot Tub! But that was a nice added bonus. More pictures needed on the listing to show the beautiful walk in showers which was a welcome surprise, the baths never even got run. Thank you again, we will definitely be coming back.

Our stay at Rose Cottage was perfect and had everything we needed for our 8 night stay.

The property was clean, had comfortable beds, and all essential provisions you would expect for self-catering. Extras such as books and board games were also provided along with tourist information. The conservatory was ideal to enjoy a coffee and relax during the day, with the wood fire in the lounge providing cosy space to relax in the evening. The external utilty room was a real benefit for us, where we could leave walking boots, etc, without taking these in to the main property. There is also enough parking for the property with access to one of the garages also provided. The location was great with walks in the surrounding area or a short drive away depending on what you wanted to do. The small village of Dalston has a shop for groceries, with Carlisle only being 15 minutes away for bigger supermarkets. The owners were fantastic, provided recommendations, and also very accommodating to assist us. I would definitely recommend Rose Cottage and would stay again if in the area. Thank you to Julie for letting us stay at your wonderful cottage.
