"Potentially a nice holiday cottage spoiled by lack of attention to detail. We didn't get off to the best of starts as the first thing to greet us on entering the cottage was a strong smell of fish. So rummaging through the kitchen for a tin of air freshener, there was none, we came upon the welcome pack. Bread, butter, milk and a bottle of white wine, there was no tea or coffee so what were you thinking, toast and a glass of milk perhaps? There was no salt or pepper either, no cooking oil, and the dishwasher had warning lights on for no salt or rinse aid. A trip to the local shop was first priority. Luckily the shop was still open, closes at 5pm and just a short walk into the village. We got back to the cottage and while my wife was unpacking I set to with the air freshener and then attacked the heating. Although there is a thermostat at the bottom of the stairs I realised that all of the radiators had been turned off, consequently the house was a little cool in the evening, except for the bathroom which was hot enough to be a sauna. The radiator valves were stubbornly stuck and took a lot of work to open, some didn't make it and stayed stuck. While on the subject of heating you should know there is no access to the boiler which is right next to the bedroom and switches on and off constantly, not helpful if you are a light sleeper, so you have to try and get a balance between keeping the house warm in the cooler evenings but not so much that the boiler keeps you awake. On the subject of sleeping I noticed complaints about traffic noise from previous guests, we arrived Friday evening and to be honest I thought they were exaggerating, however come Monday morning the traffic noise started, early morning as people head off to work, light sleepers beware. The cottage is dog friendly, as is most of Northumberland, and as a dog lover and the owner of a lovely black Labrador I think this is a great idea, although we couldn't bring ours with us as we normally live in Spain. There are however a few downsides to being pet friendly, the neighbours letting their dogs out each morning to pee on the plant pots and table legs in the courtyard, putting some washing in the excellent washer/dryer provided and having the first lot come out covered in short hairs, and then suffering flea bites on our legs after the first evening. Unfortunately I am allergic to bites and my ankle was swollen and covered in an itchy rash, trip to Boots in Amble to top up on Piriton and then an hour spent hoovering the living room and in particular the sofas sorted the problem and no further bites. On the subject of dogs I presume the stains on carpets and sofas were from previous pets.Despite all this we really enjoyed our week in Warkworth, it's a lovely area I just hope this particular holiday cottage gets a bit more care before future guests arrive."

"Beautiful cottage which is exceptionally well equipped. Very peaceful setting in a very small hamlet of about 12 properties. Nearest shop is 2.5 miles away in Marfen although was closed while we were there. Don’t expect food shops on your doorstep so plan for at least your 1st evening and breakfast. Next nearest was Corbridge which has little Co-op but some lovely little shops too. For major food shopping Hexham is great with big Tesco, plus Aldi and Waitrose. Lots of other lovely shops too. Beautiful countryside all around cottage with amazing walking to be done. Lovely welcome from owners Michelle and Rob with unexpected fresh baked loaf, lovely jam and few other extras. Please be mindful that satnav May try to send you down tracks and dead ends. Mine is only 2 years old and didn’t recognise the dead ends and kept trying to send me down them. Was approx 3.5 mile journey down single track which is undulating with a few passing points. Was lovely but suspect treacherous in winter. We had fun when the farmer didn’t lock the gate properly one time and 4 cows and a bull escaped and led us down the last of the track down to the A road where they kindly stopped the traffic for us! There are other routes once you find your way around but if relying on satnav may be an issue for some. Cottage is by far the nicest we have stayed in by far and would highly recommend and would be happy to return."

"Myself, five year old and both parents stayed for three nights in the middle of march. I was met by the owner who was lovely, he showed us around the outside area, where you can and cant go and said to ring anytime if i needed them. The cottage was lovely and cosy and very clean. You had everything you would need for a short stay. The cottage for a child is great. The outside space is lovely with big areas to play, trampoline, swings and a the river. It was raining when we stayed and it had been very snowy/cold previously so not the best, though this didnt put off my little boy he really enjoyed himself playing outside! The only teeny negatives was that the water pressure in the bathroom was really low so it took ages to fill a bath/wash hair. A shower would have maybe been quicker/better but there isnt one. Also the log burner which is lovely does make everything smell really strong of well log burner! i really didnt like this ( especially not if your going to a wedding as you dont really want to smell like that) other than those two small thing it was lovely and i would totally recommend a stay!"

"Beautiful, spacious family home. Perfect as a base for us to re visit all our favourite Northumberland sights and fabulous beaches. There is a fabulous beach just a short drive away, where we walked the dogs almost ever day. The Kitchen is so well equipped, if you felt like cooking a gourmet dinner you would find every utensil you needed. Even a Coffee maker to program for your morning Coffee! our two Border Terriers were secure in the back Garden, which has a large table and chairs for Alfreso dining. We were there in an extremely hot week, but the house was lovely and cool, and the big comfy beds very welcoming. The two living rooms were a bonus, as our teenagers could watch what they wanted on the evenings we just wanted to relax. We sat in the Garden, chilled Prosecco in hand, watching the sheep, Horses, and the stars as it got dark. A very relaxing holiday was had by all."

"The cottage is beautiful But the noise from traffic outside is terrible it is on a main road and very noisy, The real problem is parking. I parked my car round the ally to unpack my car a man who drives a learner driver car came knocking on my window and shouting I'm I a resident in a very aggressive manner. Then followed me to the cottage shouting at me to move my car. I left the car there until my husband came back as I was frightened to move it on my own. At 8.30 the next day I had someone banging on the cottage door and shouting at me to move my car!! I moved it to the open car park at the front. They are doing drain works in Warkworth village limiting car space to half the amount even resident carpark full!! This needs sorting out before someone gets hurt. The residents are really aggressive!!!"
