About this property

A hidden gem lovingly refurbished, this cottage provides a romantic retreat in the pretty village of Harbottle.

Tucked away in the centre of the pretty village of Harbottle in the heart of the Northumberland National Park Bonny Barn is a hidden gem. Having been lovingly refurbished this quirky little cottage provides a romantic retreat in a tranquil rural setting, and from the terraced garden there are stunning views across open countryside. At the top of the garden there is a summer house which guests are welcome to use. The owner takes great pride in the garden and can provide guests with seasonal vegetables as they are harvested. Avid walkers can begin a day out on the moors direct from the door of the cottage. There is a lovely walk of about 5 miles from Harbottle Castle up to see the Drakestone, a massive sandstone block which rests high on a hill above Harbottle. In Druid folklore the stone is said to have healing powers. From the top there are wonderful views overlooking Harbottle Lough, the Coquet Valley and across to the Cheviot Hills. Such a lovely little property to stay at and loved the scenery. Very dog friendly, the owner had provided us with a little welcome basket and dog treats for dogs. On arrival the owner greeted and welcomed into her home with a nice cuppa and loads of advice of where to visit. Would definable recommend this lovely property to people visiting that area.

A cosy cottage away from the road in a lovely location which is ideal for walking or trips to the coast. Our host was friendly and welcoming. The property was clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. We enjoyed using the 'sitootie' (garden room) overlooking the beautiful garden with views of the Drake Stone. The property is next to a small school so noise should be expected in term time, but it was very quiet and peaceful when we stayed in August. The Star Inn is recommended for eat in and takeaway.
