"Lovely cottage let down by the kitchen. The bedrooms, living room and dining room were all lovely with some nice quirky features. However, it seemed as if the owners hadn't got round to updating the kitchen yet. We stayed over Christmas and although the weather was quite mild the kitchen was freezing - even with both ovens going. There is a radiator but it's round a corner by the back door and had no effect on the kitchen at all. For a property marketed to sleep 8-10 people the stock of kitchenware and utensils was inadequate: not enough wine glasses for 6 people; no highballs etc, just a few mismatched tumblers. No oven gloves!(had to buy our own) Only 2 tea towels provided for a 4 night stay (had to buy extra). Plenty of knives, forks and spoons but not a lot else. Tin opener useless (had to buy our own). The cleanliness of the kitchen was also not great (the rest of the property was fine) - cutlery, plates and pans had obviously just been taken out of the dishwasher and put away without being checked and most were dirty. Such a shame that a lovely property was let down by poor basic standards and hopefully it was just down to the owners being new to holiday letting. One final thing - it needs to be highlighted in the cottage description that there is a steep set of stairs between the kitchen and the dining room (just so people are prepared to have to carry their Christmas dinner from one floor to the next). We would happily stay again (despite the kitchen gripes) as the location is great - nice local pubs, walks and a well stocked co-op round the corner."

"Very disappointing. The owners seemed not to care. As requested we phoned the owners in the week before our arrival to say that although we were booked from the friday we would not in fact arrive until the saturday. They said that they would be away on saturday at a wedding in Scotland but would make sure that "someone" would be on site to welcome us, show us around, and deal with any issues. Nobody was there. We saw the owners once just before we left at the end of our stay. The hot water ran out after 24 hours. We discovered that the hot-water heater had been turned off. The kitchen was minimally equipped. For example there was no frying pan, and barely sufficient crockery for six. There was a bbq (as advertised) but it lacked a gas tank. The clothes drier seemed not to work and there was no operators manual. Several light sockets lacked a bulb, the tv connection was faulty (I fixed it), the heating was difficult to figure out and control, There was no explanation of how the power remotely controlled gates worked. The resident dogs regularly used the back lawn as a toilet (good job there were no children in our party). The comments in the guest book mentioned many of these same issues, which suggests that the owners should have been aware of these deficiencies but didn't do anything about them. The rent was increased for that week, it being the UK half-term, which made the deficiencies harder to accept. It's a pity. The location is excellent, and the rural ambiance is delightful."

"Belford is a lovely friendly village. The Black Swan Hotel was especially welcoming. We had all the amenities of the village but were close enough to the beach and countryside too. The house was spacious and quirky and the beds we're comfortable. The layout was difficult with a flight of stairs between the kitchen and dining room and some twin rooms rather than double beds would be better for families. Our teenage girls did not appreciate sharing a bed and the sofa bed was very uncomfortable. The back yard was not well cared for and there was no pleasant outdoor space. The worst aspect of the cottage was the noise of the plumbing. From the downstairs bedroom there was constant loud noise of flushing toilets and gushing water, including through the night. The first time we went to use the oven we found leftover pizza on the grill pan . The oven was not clean overall and complicated to use. We would love to return to Belford but unfortunately not in this cottage."

"The 'house' was not at all suitable for a dog as the living room was upstairs and dogs were not allowed upstairs. The downstairs bedroom had no windows so was dark and airless. The upstairs bedroom was too light. The blinds on the window were useless and there was a street lamp outside. The velux windows had blinds on them but it was impossible to reach them so they were uncovered all the time. There was no dishwasher which is fair enough but there was no draining board to put the washed items. With a wet dog and child, it would have been a good idea to come and go through the utility room but then the dog (and the rest of us) would have had to go through the downstairs bedroom (which was not allowed).I would not describe the house as 'end of terrace'. It was more like a garage conversion! It looked very modern and attractive inside but was really not very user friendly."

"- Points cooker very dirty, two pairs of dirty and smelly socks by radiator, huge cobweb in window light with as may as 20 to 30 dead wasps in webdid clean ourself, no WiFi code little other cottage notes, but mainly heating not working. Cottage owner contacted didn’t seem to believe problems but did immediately arrange local agent to pop around.+ Agent got WiFi code from cottage next door, primed boiler pressure and got heating in adjoining cottage working but controls in Megs cottage not working so no heating except for free standing electric radiators. Eventually moved to one of the agents cottages at Belford clean but not ideal for a person with walking difficulties as bedroom upstairs. Would I stay there again if property was cleaned and maintained properly then yes as it’s in a great location."
