What our customers say about their holidays

    • Craig - Verified booking

Tried phoning the owner 3 times during my stay.

The first time, she advised she was on the phone to someone from China and that I'd have to phone her back (the correct response would surely have been to say that she would phone ME back). On the 2nd and 3rd attempts to phone her, it went onto her answering service - I left a message for her to phone me but she never did. After we had arrived back home, a full 24 hours later, I received a text message from her asking if she could help! The heating is by means of quite dated storage heaters. The heating came on at preset times and it was unclear as to how the guest controlled the heating times. Although it was only September when we stayed, it got chilly on one or two evenings and we had to sit with duvets over us one evening. Guests may wish to bring their own small fan heater with them if staying over the colder months. The shower was over the bath type. The shower screen was of a folding type which did not sit flush on the edge of the bath leading to worry that water would go over the side onto the floor. We were worried about forcing it in case we broke it. A bath tap came away in my hand whilst I was using it but, luckily, I was able to re-attach it. The crockery was plentiful but guests may want to consider bringing the following themselves: a sharp bread knife, a sharp pair of scissors, some large bowls and some STANDARD sized mugs. The table in the living room had a noticeable layer of dust on it suggesting that cleaning mightn't be a priority. Whilst the DVD player worked, the remote control for it did not, making it hard to control viewing, suggesting a lack of attention to detail. The volume on the TV, whilst watching a DVD, was also very low and unable to be increased, resulting in the TV being very hard to hear. Guests may wish to bring their own DVD player or portable DVD player. If just watching the TV alone, the volume is fine. Guests should note that there is no DAB radio reception OR mobile signal which did not present too much of a problem for us, but may for others. There was no welcoming pressies, like a bottle of wine or biscuits, something we are used to receiving at other cottages, which was a bit disappointing. However, there was a carton of long life milk left for us in the fridge. The cottage is, otherwise, in a delightful location with a lovely garden and views. Pen-y-ghent could be seen from the garden. It was generally quiet during our stay. The bedding was crisp and clean and the beds were comfortable. The price we paid for our week was reasonable but the price varies considerably, depending on the week chosen, and so guests should choose their week carefully. Overall, we'd score the cottage as 7 out of 10, but it could quite easily have been a 9 or 10 with a bit more attention to detail / response from the owner when contacted.

Fawber Cottage is a lovely, "tucked away", detached cottage deep in the Yorkshire Dales, around 0.

75 miles from the village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale. The cottage is ideal for the "Three Peaks", the Settle to Carlisle Railway, Settle, Skipton, Hawes, Ribblehead, Dent and the other beautiful villages in the Dales. The cottage itself is delightful, with views of Pen-y-Ghent from the living room window and a bench in the back garden. The bedding was clean and fresh and the beds comfortable. There is very little noise, apart from the farmer, who seems to delight in driving about in a quad bike early in the morning and in the early evening. We had someone appear one morning to cut the grass with a petrol mower, without having had the courtesy to knock on the door first and ask whether it was convenient, which we thought was a bit naughty - too bad if you had fancied a log lie-in! Three is no road/traffic noise. There is no mobile or DAB signal, which wasn't an issue for us but may be for others. The DVD player doesn't work, so you may want to bring your own. The TV is a smart TV, so you get YouTube etc. The heating is preset and difficult to change. The prices for the cottage vary wildly, depending on which week you choose, so choose carefully. We paid £534 for 1 week commencing 30/5/25, which we thought was reasonable. Check in is 5pm and check out is 9am sharp with no exceptions. On the whole, we would recommend this cottage.

I wouldn't say this was the best cottage we've stayed in but it's certainly very good.

It was clean and comfortable. The downstairs cloakroom (WC and basin) is a good selling point and deserves to be mentioned in the listing. There were one or two omissions, but nothing show-stopping. We'd have expected spare kitchen roll, and maybe some cling film. The book of instructions for guests had details of a microwave which no longer exists (the current microwave instructions are with the microwave) but nothing about the main oven controls, which are a bit quirky. However, I Googled it and found something similar, which gave us the information needed. Previous reviews have criticised the WiFi so I was a bit apprehensive about that but I need not have been. It was better than we have at home and quite sufficient for streaming and for general use. It probably depends on what you're used to. We weren't using the third bedroom but I think the lack of storage space could be a problem. Also, some of the bedroom curtains could do with linings so that you don't wake at 5am. Overall, we had a good stay and I would recommend this cottage.

The cottage is a perfect slice of nostalgic Dale's life.

The cottage is situated in the most lovely Hamlette and is surrounded by lovely countryside, Lambs and sheep (the weekend we were there). The cottage was just what we were looking for, it was super quiet, Warm and cosy to the max. the Log burner is super easy to use and is perfect for cold nights. We also used the Garden a lot and made use of the BBQ. it's a little basic charcoal one but worked well. beds were comfortable and the shower was sufficient for what was needed. my only small areas of gripes would be that the check-in time is stupid. ^pm is just too late when your paying for a whole day. it should be more like 2 pm. the check out time of 9 am is also a little annoying but not as bad as we had lots to do that day so that didn't annoy as much. We will be booking again as it's our idea of a lovely cottage, not overdone or too Live, love, Laugh which seems to be a lot of the cottages now in Yorkshire. Rob x

The cottage is delightful overall and it was a real pleasure to stay there.

We really appreciated the look of the place and the lovely prints on all the rooms. The beds were very comfortable with good quality quilt and linen. The living room is very homely and well appointed with a good selection of books. We had not expected WiFi and it was a pleasant surprise that this has now been provided. The kitchen and dining room are well equipped and catering for 6 people is very easy. We particularly appreciated the cooker which was of a high standard. The Garden is a real bonus which enhanced our holiday. A Lovely place to sit and it’s a very easy walk down to the village. For a walking holiday it’s a good location with lots of opportunities for local walks as well as access to the three peaks and the Settle to Carlisle railway line. The only downside to the house is the single bathroom which is an area that could be improved. Our group had a great holiday here and we would love to return.
