About this property

This spacious first floor conversion of a detached stone-built barn is located in the grounds of the owner’s farmhouse on the outskirts of Settle, just over a mile from this ever-popular old market town. Set amongst Dales countryside, this is a first-class holiday home to really get away from it all. Recently fully restored using much imagination and design flair, the existing owners have gone to great lengths to ensure that Melsome provides stylish and modern accommodation for all their guests. Enter the retreat via an external stone-built staircase and balcony area into the central hallway. The main living area is a real delight with a marvellous open-plan design. The bespoke corner kitchen is well-equipped and there is a central breakfast bar which serves as a dining area. The lovely sitting room boasts a warm and cosy woodburning stove, a great place to be on a cold winter's night, snuggling up in front of the fire with a warm drink and a good book. The spacious master bedroom features a super king-size double bed, fabulous A-framed beams and lovely views of the surrounding countryside including the herd of sheep grazing in the adjoining field. Add to this luxurious mix a modern shower room with walk-in power shower and all the ingredients are there for a superb Yorkshire Dales holiday. Guests can sit on the balcony and enjoy views out towards the limestone fells and maybe catch the odd steam train going past. With a myriad of paths, lanes and bridleways from the doorstep, guests can experience walking and cycling through some of the most scenic countryside in the Yorkshire Dales, whilst for the more experienced and energetic guests there is of course the famous Three Peaks challenge. The Settle Loop is a bridleway which can be walked, cycled or enjoyed on horseback. For those less inclined towards the great outdoors, there are many sightseeing activities in the area. Visit the Trough of Bowland, an AONB, or head into the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. A first class holiday home for two. Note: This property can be booked with the lower floor.

Settle is a popular market town situated at the south west rim of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The market day in Settle is held on a Tuesday and the town has shops, restaurants, pubs and a public swimming pool. The famous Settle-Carlisle Railway crosses some of the most inspiring upland scenery in the country and the natural attractions of Malham Cove and Gordale Scar are well worth exploring. Also within driving distance is the nearby towns of Skipton and Malham.

Hazel and Charlie could not be more helpful. unfortunately they cannot control the weather which was horrendous [storm Gettin!!!] The Christmas decorations and treats were lovely. Would return despite being trapped indoors for 6 days.

Home from home. Owners on site very accommodating, even with a power cut which was not their fault. Wonderful relaxing week exploring the Dales, thank you for an excellent holiday.

In addition your host Hazel and Charlie are extremely friendly, attentive and helpful. No problem, fully recommending the barn, we had a great holiday. The only reason to give a 9 rating is that we found the depth of the entrance steps to be insufficient to fully support your foot, making attention necessary when descending and use of the handrail. Not a big thing for us but could be difficult for some.
