What our customers say about their holidays

    • Allen - Verified booking

Lovely cottage - the owner said they’d had many holidays there and that was what made a difference I think.

It felt cosy like a real “home” as soon as you walked in. The decor was not the cheap “make do and mend” that you often find - it was really nicely and tastefully done. The cottage was very well equipped and the owners had anticipated most of the needs of visitors. The welcome pack was very welcome. Thank you. The cottage was lovely and clean, very warm and comfortable. It has traditional features (including a few spooky creaks and groans. We swear we heard a young child say “Daddy” just outside the bedroom door one night….. we hid under the duvet) A couple of “even better if’s”: (1) the dishwasher didn’t work properly and after three washes we had to wash the pots by hand as they were not clean at all (2) maybe leave some washing up liquid and a couple of dishwasher tabs for the next visitors (we left dish cloths). (3) The property is very difficult to find. I couldn’t find it on Google Earth so texted for clarification a few days before we went. I did not get a reply. We couldn’t find it where the post code led us, so we scoured the streets - the locals in the pub hadn’t heard of it either. The contact numbers provided were all the same number and not answered (no signal in the village so had to drive a couple of miles out of the village till I could get a signal). At one point, we even considered having to return home or find a Premier Inn for the night. I don’t know if this will help future visitors but I took the “what three words” reference: ///stylist.recorders.signature Somehow, we did spot the cottage on what was our last attempt. Negatives aside, all in all a lovely visit to a lovely cottage in a beautiful village. Our third stay in Staithes and the best cottage so far. We will be back.

We stayed at Rockfish Cottage, Staithes for seven nights and were very happy with the homeliness, comfort and cleanliness of the property.

The owner had provided a basket of assorted goodies together with wine and flowers which was a nice personal touch and a nice welcome. The property is located approximately 10 minutes walking distance from the village itself which has two very good pubs serving good food, in addition to a selection of gift and art shops - be aware though, that there is a very steep hill in and out of the village and cars are not allowed. The cottage has ample parking for one car to the rear of the property. There is a Coop just a short walk away and the fish and chip shop is located virtually opposite the cottage which is dine in or takeaway and we highly recommend it. All in all, it’s fair to say that everything exceeded our expectations.

The cottage is well located in the old part of Staithes, very close to the harbour and local pub and shops.

It is very comfortably fitted out with all the amenities required for a pleasant, relaxing break. The kitchen is well equipped, sitting room comfortable and well furnished, although could do with having a curtain for the door window. The bathroom is very spacious with separate bath and shower cubicle. The bedrooms are good sizes too. Small negatives are the small bath towels (bath sheets would be great) and lack of wifi (the reason it didn't get top marks for facilities). Some may see this as a benefit though but with mobile phone reception being non-existent in Staithes apart from a limited area (by the harbour or at the top of the hill) it could be an issue. Otherwise a very pleasant cottage and worth another visit.

From the moment we walked up the path till the moment we left, this property was not up to Sykes Cottages spec and we won't be using them again.

Path to cottage uneven and broken, stains all over the outside wall, dirty windows, open the door to hallway and the smell off damp, walls crumbling in lounge, fire not cleaned out, ashes not emptied, cobwebs everywhere, my wife cleaned the fridge, microwave, cooker and all the crockery as it was filthy. Furniture and furnishings are tired and dirty. Upstairs double uncomfortable and again the room smelt damp, bathroom, shower missing it's seal, Emerson heater cord has been broken so many time and knotted back together, toilet seat lose. The place was a lot of money, and did not live up to expectations, Staithes is a lovely place, but this cottage certainly took the shine off our New Year!

      Positives...

The cottage was handy for the beach etc, the bed was comfy and the wood burner was a nice addition. The milk was very handy when we arrived.! Negatives...cottage is dark and looks into nearby walls all around. Having to stoop so much to go from lounge to kitchen is a bit tiresome after a while. Property is for sale and needs some tlc..things broken or in need of a good clean. When we arrived no toilet roll, and a couple of logs or dishwasher tablets would have been nice. There was just empty log nets by the fire from previous people. The crockery was still in the dishwasher not very clean. Found mouldy food in the oven.
