      I loved the peace and stillness of this old stone cottage, with its thick walls keeping out anxieties about the Co-Vid.

      The peace and quiet of the location was a joy. Also loved the quirky old furniture. I do think however, that potential visitors should be aware that as the cottage is very old, they may find some things difficult - the main one for us was the heating. It took us quite a while to work out how to keep the cottage as warm as we would like. NB the caretaker was very helpful in this regard as was the owner who remotely organised a heating engineer the same day we mentioned a problem. It's not that it doesn't work, more that with the walls being so thick and there being two different heating systems, it took some getting used to. A further point is that the stairs are a little uneven which is again due to the building's age, but could be a problem if visitors had mobility problems. Overall, I would describe this as a home full of charm and peaceful atmosphere.

      Lovely accommodation in a beautiful village.

      The cottage is extremely comfortable and the bed is huge. We slept so well while we were there and were not our normal early risers! The kitchen, whilst being petit and bijou, is well stocked with equipment and cooking was a pleasure unlike in some properties we've stayed in. I would definitely recommend that you take your own provisions as supplies in the local convenience store are very limited and the closest supermarkets are a bit of a trek away (there is a large fridge/freezer in the property). The Lister Arms was a wonderful, cosy dog friendly bolthole for a drink or a meal at the end of the day (it is very popular and booking is advisable if you want to eat there even mid-week) and would recommend the coffee shop in the village for breakfast, lunch or coffee and cake. The farm shop a couple of miles away also does a fab breakfast.

      Grange House has been lovingly renovated to provide an extremely spacious and well equipped holiday let which has been turned upside down in order to appreciate the views.

      The friendly owners live next door and are happy to share their knowledge of the area although they are far from being intrusive. There is parking for two cars to the rear plus plenty of on-street parking right outside. Situated in stunning countryside, the property is ideally placed for exploring the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, taking in places like Skipton, Grassington, Ilkley, Settle and beyond. A week really wasn't long enough to see everything so I expect we'll be back again in the future! Thank you Ruth for that really yummy banana bread (wish I could bake like that!) and also for the milk, which came in a proper glass bottle from the milkman - an added bonus! We've had a really good break away and would not hesitate to recommend Grange House in the future.

      We enjoyed our stay in this traditional Dales farmhouse.

      We checked around carefully before we left to ensure all should be as we found it but must apologise for not emptying the kitchen waste bin. We completely overlooked it! It was lovely waking up each morning, drawing back the curtains and seeing the variety of birds on the bushes in the back garden. The property is well placed for exploring the Dales and is quite close to two well provisioned shops and a number of places to eat. The living room is on the dark side and could benefit from additional lighting as has been done with the equally darkish farmhouse we are currently in, which makes it cheerful and snug. We appreciated the welcome carton of milk and pack of biscuits. The beds were very comfortable and the property is well appointed. .

      The photographs on the website weren’t particular accurate.

      There was hardly any natural light. Even on the sunniest of days a light needed to be on, it was quite dark, even in the bedrooms. There wasn’t any views out, because there was either a bush or fencing around. Very claustrophobic. It was a comfortable apartment. You would have thought there were elephants staying up stairs, not very well sound proofed. It was pointless having a dishwasher, with four people staying at the property there were only four mugs, and only three teaspoons we had to wash them up every time. For the first time ever (not mentioned on line) we had to pay for Wi-Fi. Normally included in the price. Although the property was comfortable we have had better places we have stayed in with Sykes. Slightly disappointed.
