"The Cottage itself was lovely. Very clean and well equipped. Only negative is the shower upstairs is very compact and not much height room. The other major issue for us was the walk to the beach and where it was located. We had a dog and did not realise that you had to walk through a working farm and road was very narrow sometimes not even accommodating 2 cars being able to pass each other. Also it was about a mile and a quarter to walk one way so was bit too far for my disabled husband to walk there and back. We did drive down though and there were 2 sets of gates to open and close on the way down but the beach was lovely very secluded and never too busy even on a bank hoiday. No pub nearby either to have a meal but there was a co-op nearby but nothing else in the village. Also it was stated to let dogs use the front garden which was lovely and long but unfortunately was on main road through the village with quite a small wall so could not leave dog out unattended."

"We had a brilliant week at Thorn Rigg. The house is very well equipped and every need for your holiday has been thought through by the owners. The house is stylishly furnished, with a homely but uncluttered feel with lots of little touches that make it extra special. The house has a good layout and a beautiful landscaped garden, which is totally dog proof, even for our large dog. The decking is in the perfect position for you to take in the excellent view of the garden and nearby fields and countryside. The welcome pack is extensive and even includes a good bottle of wine and a selection of cheeses and some bread and butter. Even our dog was catered for with dog bowls being provided, some dog biscuits and even a few pooh bags. Every detail has been really considered to make your stay special. We would highly recommend Thorn Rigg and are already booking our stay there for next year."

"The central-heating thermostat is... guesswork, at best. No instructions, and it seems to keep on resetting itself every few hours. Not a massive inconvenience or hassle, but... not a smooth hassle-free experience either. For me personally, none of the sofas were overly comfortable - again, not a massive problem, but a constant niggle. And finally, if you (Sykes and/or the property owner) are going to make the renter get £100 in cash for the 'housekeeping bond', at least make the effort to collect it. Or just sack off the requirement completely. Either way. But making *such* a big deal about it (it's on every confirmation, and on the description page on Sykes) and then not bothering about it again just makes it feel like "Well, that was pointless and annoying"."

"Spent a long weekend in late October with the extended family intending to spend all of the time in the East Wing rather than exploring the area. The East Wing is a fabulous building and the grounds are well kept and beautiful. Had a good time, once the downstairs heating was sorted and the open fire lit. Couple of minor disappointments were the very poor wifi, (didn't work downstairs and the upstairs was limited to the TV room where the router was located), which was made more frustrating by the fact that mobile reception in the East Wing is poor, (which can't be helped); and the downstairs TV had an irritating habit of freezing for a couple of seconds on a frequent basis."

"Lovely return to the North East to celebrate the New Year and spend quality time with the family still up there. It didn't disappoint! The cottage was ideal and had everything we needed. It was just what we envisaged; cosy and comfortable with a little snow thrown in on our journey up there! We visited Alnwick, Alnmouth, Craster, Seahouses and Bambrugh albeit very briefly but brought back great memories of childhood holidays gone by. Mr Ford was very helpful and the welcome pack was spot on..a lovely touch. Many thanks to all involved in making this our best New Year in a long time."
