What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mr Galvin - Verified booking

The Magnolias is a real gem of a find, right in the heart of the lovely village of Burton Bradstock on the Jurassic Coast. The property has been lovingly restored and has 3 good-sized bedrooms (one en-suite), a family bathroom (with a a great shower), a fine lounge and separate dining room. You'll find yourself spending most of your time in the kitchen though, with its fabulous Aga that heats the whole house. All equipment and furnishings are of a very high standard from the duvets to the utensils - a lot of thought has gone into this. The garden is large and enclosed and was perfect for us and our Labrador to roam around. The parking space was a real bonus in this popular village. The owner got in touch while we there and she was very keen to ensure we had the perfect time. The beach is a 10-15 minute walk away and the cafe there is definitely worth a visit just for the fish & chips alone. The two pubs in the village are great and both very welcoming. Modbury Farm shop nearby does some really good cheeses and other local foods. The market in Bridport on Wednesdays and Saturdays is well worth a visit. We have stayed in this area a number of times over the years and The Magnolias is the best property we have found - would love to return there one day.

Well-equipped with good quality pots and pans and a Smart TV.

The surrounding area offered good walking and some great pubs and we were lucky with the weather. The owner, Richard, has a large field within 50 yards of the cottage which was great for letting the dog out as the secure patio garden is paved which Bella found difficult as she is used to having grass to relieve herself on! The cottage is built over a stream which is delightful - we had regular visits from an egret who came to fish. The outlook from the property is onto a large concrete yard and the owner's house and farm buildings, although these are not used for animals. There is a caravan park whose access is past the cottage through the yard to an area beyond the farm buildings. For a winter visit this had no impact as we were not using the patio and the caravan park was pretty dormant, but we wondered how this would impact a holiday in the height of the summer when there would be more activity.

Our experience of Puddleducks was disappointing to say the least.

Our initial impression when we arrived was that the property was tired and in need of some TLC. It could also have been cleaner. On the Monday morning we returned to find a significant flood of water from the bathroom extending through the entrance hall and into the lounge. The owner was summoned and all three of us mopped up the water. A plumber came during the afternoon and diagnosed that the basin mixer tap was faulty and well passed its usefulness. He was to return the following day to fit a replacement. He in fact came two days later. Meanwhile we suffered a further identical leak that same evening when going to bed, so at 11 o'clock at night we were both again clearing up our second flood. No we were not pleased nor impressed with this particular property and received little benefit from our stay.

What a gem! Beautiful cottage located in a quaint, picturesque village. The property is spacious, comfortable, and very homely. A lot of thought and time has gone into making sure the house is well maintained and clean. Noted that no expense has been spared when equipping the kitchen (Miele appliances and Le Creuset cookware set!). We thoroughly enjoyed the garden and the scenic walks around Burton Bradstock and surrounding villages. We ate at both the pubs in the village and enjoyed the meals served - The Anchor Inn a particular favourite for the large variety of fish options on the menus. Short walk (15 mins) to local Hive Beach, which is a sandy beach and has a lovely cafe. Will definitely be back and miss it already!

Puddleducks, is warm and clean and has a lovely comfortable king size bed.

Has most of what you need in the kitchen. Lovely large shower cubicle with plenty of hot water. Comfortable sofas in the lounge and a good size TV. Lucinda was warm and welcoming and greeted us with a lovely homemade Victoria sponge and a few treats for our dog. Lovely walks near the cottage with beautiful views of the countryside. The nearest town is Sherborn about 7 miles away. Can recommend the George for a great lunch at a reasonable price in Sherborne. Recommended for a countryside break. Possibly a little difficult to find unless you have a sat nav.
