What our customers say about their holidays

      WATERSMEET.

The property was well located, the view from the balcony was brilliant, furniture was comfortable and the whole place was clean and tidy. There was everything supplied that we needed. The only complaints we had were; 1. One of the ovens wasn't working, drawing a cross on the control knob with a marker pen should have been backed-up with a notice telling people it didn't work, though getting it fixed would be a better option, feeding a group of six with only one oven caused problems. 2. The 'Local Information' book needs to be kept up-dated. The cinema 'showing all the latest releases' burnt down before Covid, and the 'Children's Animal Farm' at Abbotsbury (which we visited) closed during Covid and has never re-opened. 3. The entrance-way and stairwell let the place down terribly. The smell of mould and damp and the accumulation of feathers and rubbish we had to step over to get in the door was off-putting to say the least. If mesh screens were fitted to the window frames to keep the pesky seagulls out, at least the windows could be opened when the cleaners are there. On the plus side, our grandchildren gave the spiders in the stairway names and said good morning every-time we went out. 4. Several of the bed-side lights and the standard lamp in the lounge, have either faulty connections or loose bulbs, they flickered on and off, this may seem a small point, but for people who like to read in bed, it became impossible to do so. On the whole, Lyme Regis was well worth the visit, with excellent restaurants and shops, brilliant 'chippie' and a great buzz within the town and waterfront. We would return.

The location of a property on the seafront was a prerequisite and it did not disappoint.

However there are serious access issues :- 1. The gates to the carpark were permanently open and hence parking was insecure (worse than parking up outside as anyone could wander in and remain undetected). 2. A previous reviewer noted that the lift was broken and when we arrived it was "Out of Service". Therefore either it had not been functioning for weeks or it had broken down again. We had the inconvenience of hauling baggage up three flights of a narrow, steep, winding staircase. The lift was "fixed" during our stay but there was always a nagging doubt whether or not we would arrive at our destination as the doors sometimes did not shut properly. 3. The key pad for the side door did not function when the code was input. By chance, the owner of the downstairs cafe was outside and told us the press the "Tradesman's" button for access which worked. If we had not bumped into him, we would have been none the wiser. He was aware it had been broken for a long time. Beggars belief. 4. The numbers on the entrance door lock box are extremely difficult to read even with the additional light and the box is set at a height for giants. As a general note, the building has been designed by an Architect to look pretty rather than for the benefit of people who actually have to live in it eg The kitchen area is so dark the lights always needed to be on even in broad daylight, rabbit warren of corridors, badly positioned columns in the basement making parking a car a major operation.....

This property has an amazing location and Lyme is lovely.

The property has plenty of space but is in total need of a bit of TLC throughout. The front door and communal entrance is shabby at best - the carpet and paintwork are in bad repair. The street entrance and immediately inside the front door is dirty and smells. Inside the property itself, the outdoor terrace has an uneven tarmac flooring (which gets very hot), with old furniture and cut wires. The bathroom sink had a plug that did not fit / work well. The ensuite shower rooms were very basic and need updating. The pictures in the hallway were not securely fixed. I had to call for bin bags to be delivered to the flat as there were no spares. The bed frames have parts that are not fixed (ornamental balls at the foot end). In the kitchen the hooks near the hob are old, broken and marked. The weekly fire alarm test went off at 7.50am. The glassware, cutlery and crockery is an eclectic mix, most are old. There are not enough plates, bowls or mugs for a property accommodating this number of people. On our arrival I put some items in the freezer, it became clear within 30 mins that the freezer had been turned off before we got there and it was beginning to defrost - this is not good. All of the appliances were turned off at the socket and messages about turning things off were unwelcoming. It would be good to have some recycling facilities at the property. This could be a really solid holiday let, but needs some maintenance and investment to get there.

Cleaning could of been better to be honest did find an awful lot of long dark head hairs throughout and were hanging from the washing machine door when I went to use it I'm not aware of how long cleaners get to complete a clean in between lets nor do I know what state the last people left the property but with the current situation going on I would of thought would be a deeper clean in-between I had taken my own cleaning sprays etc so did anything as I went along if I noticed it however beds were beautifully made nice and fresh and clean although we arrived on a very wet day and bedroom skylight had been left open I'd imagine to air the room but it had rained in onto the wardrobe which could cause damage if done regularly just a thought radiator must have an issue in main bedroom also as a blue plastic bowl is placed underneath just ruins the look really of overall a lovely apartment and shame lack of outdoor seating it could benefit having some outside I had thought it did say it had in listing but I may be mistaken but worth a thought WiFi went down after first day and wasn't sorted out by by till day before we left which was a shame although dream cottages were great in what they could do as it was out of Thier control position of the apartment was fabulous and washing line in the garden was very useful overall a lovely spacious apartment in a lovely setting we had a lovely time

      Beautiful apartment.

Comfortable, clean, great location & reserved parking. BUT.... It was spoilt by being woken twice early hours (from 2:30/3am) when it rained due to broken guttering & the noise on the bedroom ceiling venting window (which also leaks). It sounded like someone had a hose at full bore on it. (You could hear from every room) I contacted Sykes on the Mon morning (messaged at about 3am - emailed). They rang me not long after they opened to apologise & said they'd contact the local maintenance guy. He rang me (pleasant chap) apologised & said they were aware of the issue (for a couple of months) & he was also trying to get the owner to replace the venting window. On the Fri during the day it poured down, good job we were back at the apartment as it was leaking so much we had to put a big bowl underneath otherwise it would have ruined the carpet or any of our belongings had anything been there. We stayed here a while ago before some of it was refurbished and really loved it. Would love to stay again, but not until this issue has been resolved - a holiday is supposed to be relaxing, we were lucky that for most of our stay we had good weather, but it certainly wouldn't be if you had lots of sleepless nights due to the noise & leak especially with the typical weather in the UK!

    Frequent questions

    • What is the best base for exploring Dorset?

The town of Dorchester is often considered the best base for exploring Dorset. From there, you can easily visit the Jurassic Coast, including popular spots like Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, as well as historical sites such as Maiden Castle and Thomas Hardy's Cottage. Dorchester itself has a rich history and offers amenities, accommodation options, and transport connections that make it an ideal base for exploring the diverse beauty of Dorset.

    • Is Dorset a good holiday destination?

Dorset is a fantastic holiday destination offering a diverse range of attractions and activities for visitors to enjoy. From the stunning Jurassic Coast with its picturesque beaches and iconic landmarks like Durdle Door, to charming towns and villages, historical sites, and beautiful countryside, Dorset is well worth a visit. Whether you're interested in coastal walks, exploring historical landmarks, indulging in local cuisine, or simply relaxing in a tranquil setting, Dorset has something for everyone.

    • Do you need a car in Dorset?

While having a car can be beneficial for exploring the wider areas of Dorset, it is not always necessary, especially if you plan to stay in more central locations or focus on specific attractions. Dorset has a well-connected public transportation system, including buses and trains, which can be used to access many popular destinations. However, if you wish to venture off the beaten path or explore the countryside extensively, having a car can offer more flexibility and convenience.
