Excellent accommodation , fantastic location . Spotless , with the bizarre exception of the kitchen . Dreadful . We had to deep clean the fridge before putting any food in it. There was a clearly visible large amount of milk spilt in it and we had to take out and scrub all the shelves in hot soapy water to get rid of the red/pink encrusted mould grime in all the corners. It reminded us of a students fridge! It hadn’t been cleaned in a very long time. Disgusting. We sent a polite message to the housekeeper for which we are still awaiting a response.. After we had finished cleaning the fridge we pulled out the slide out shelf/ larder which also needed a good wipe over before we felt comfortable using that……then we looked at the bottom. Had it ever been cleaned ? We thought the worst was over……but no. We opened the ovens. It wasn’t just dirty, ……I don’t think I have ever opened an oven I was supposed to use, let alone paid nearly £1500 for the privilege, to find ……. Cobwebs ….. and a spider! Unbelievable. Tesco were delivering the following morning c. 10 so we had no choice but to clean as we needed somewhere clean, safe and hygienic to put our food. They did and we did. At c10.20a.m. two ladies drove in who we hoped were going to be cleaners. Briefly, they didn’t come to us at all. I have photographs to confirm the condition of everything stated above.. I noted a previous guest has also stated the kitchen needs a deep clean. Absolutely right. Yet everything else is spotless, including the rest of the kitchen. Our plans changed and we were free to extend our stay and could see from your website there was availability. It would have meant however we would have paid over £3,000 to stay somewhere where we had to clean before we had safe storage for our food and had to strip our own beds. We went to a hotel instead . Very disappointed. If I was a food hygiene inspector, I’m sorry but I would have failed you .

Great location and property was lovely, clean and modern and maintained to a high standard. It is quite remote but we love walking so most days walked between 6 and 8 miles as there are plenty of great walks. Highly recommend the Lodge at Lulworth Cove for lunch and the SeventhWave at Durlston castle - a fabulous breakfast! The welcome pack was very disappointing , I had high expectation's from Rural retreats, 4 packs of biscuits ( 8 between 5 people did not work), local tea, coffee and marmalade was a nice touch as was the milk. Local Bread and butter would have made this even better.. Improvement areas would be a new cooker as some of the hob wasn't working in its entirety, more trays for the oven as between a family of 5 one really wasn't sufficient. Kitchen scales would also be a bonus as would beach towels left for guests. The en suite shower does not really work as the shower head sprays over the bathroom due to the design. We were left 42 bottles of water, however I would recommend double this for 5 or 6 people especially in the summer as we had to message for more. Cushions in the lounge would have been a nice touch, understanding Covid regulations, however the cottage next door did have them Garden furniture would definitely be a good thing to have as the stone table and chairs were not really suited for eating outside. Overall a lovely property with a few improvements needed ...however would recommend to anyone who loves quirky and away from the beaten track

The publicity photograph was misleading, the house didn’t have kerb appeal.

But on opening the front door , it was “wow”. So, a lovely property inside. Clean, modern, well-equipped. A sweet little patio outside. Conveniently placed for the town centre. A property that would suit younger couples rather than those of us in our later years. No blinds or curtains downstairs, so no privacy one darkness arrives. Sykes gave us confusing information about accessing the property via the key box. In an earlier email you quoted one code number and then in the final message you gave us another one. That was the number we had kept in our phone and it didn’t work on the box we first tried. We then found the second box at ground level, which accessing it was quite a challenge for an 80 year-old. Rather off putting! And then we were disappointed that the television set was not equipped to receive the terrestrial TV channels. In the welcome folder at the property there was information about linking our own device to the TV set but we didn’t have any kit with us to make that possible. Luckily we did have an iPad with us so we could watch the programmes we wanted to see. This information should have been included in the property details on the Sykes website. Most disappointing. Finally, we noted that a significant amount of the crockery was chipped and that previous guests had placed glasses on the coffee table leaving water marks. Not quite top quality considering that it was a newly built property.

Location perfect. Exterior paintwork needs freshening up. Gate in a poor way, difficult to open and close properly - combination lock and fixing is a bit heath robinson. Garden grass needed a trim for garden games to be played. Garden table breaking up around surface re-inforcement and rusting. Interior clean and tidy, beds freshly made up. Hot water and heating all good. Bathrooms clean and tidy. Oven not as clean as it should have been. Roof leak damage to ceiling visible in dining room. Windows could do with a clean to enjoy the view. Ran out of drinking water on 4th day (not enough left for 6 adults catering mostly in the cottage); left message for replenishment which did not occur until the cleaner arrived on Friday. Kitchen electrical equipment instructions not in cottage reference book; found after some searching in the cutlery drawers... Observation: The light operation was found to be rather underwhelming. This probably follows an 'upgrade' by Trinity house to LED technology. We preferred the rotating lenses which historically worked very well and which were able to be maintained to a very high standard. However, we spotted the light from Portland Bill which seemed to be technically sufficient but without the 'sweep'. Also, removal of the redundant fog signal tower would enhance the view! Many thanks
