Holiday Cottages In Northumberland To Rent

Holiday Cottages in Northumberland

Almost knocking on the door of Scotland, Northumberland is England’s northernmost county and is firmly establishing itself as something of a holiday hotspot. Book one of our Northumberland Cottages and you’ll find yourself in a region where the countryside is wild and rugged and the coastline is studded with beautiful, sandy beaches. An historic county, Northumberland is littered with remnants of its impressive past, such as the imposing fortresses at Bamburgh, Walton on Tweed and Alnwick, and the world-famous Lindisfarne Monastery, which you’ll find on the aptly-named Holy Island.

However, there’s much more to Northumberland than history. Wildlife buffs who use one of our Northumberland Cottages as a holiday HQ will find they have good access to the Farne Islands, which is teeming with puffins. There are also some good beaches there, so if all that twitching leaves you drained, you can relax by the sea.

Is Northumberland best for Families or Couples

When it comes to romantic breaks, Northumberland has a gigantic ace up its sleeve - the lack of light pollution gives an unparalleled view of the stars on clear nights, and parts of the county are designated as ‘Dark Sky Reserves’. Sitting outside one of our holiday cottages in Northumberland, with a cheeky glass of your favourite tipple and staring at the stars ticks all the right boxes. However, for couples who like to get out and about, there are some stunning little villages to visit, such as Alnmouth, Beadnell and Low-Newton-By-the-Sea. There’s also Hadrian’s Wall which, while it might not offer Disney-style hearts and flowers, is pretty impressive, and a memorable place for a proposal!

Families who’ve booked one of our holiday cottages in Northumberland will find they’ve got easy access to loads of local attractions. Warkworth Castle, Dunstanburgh Castle and Banna are ruined and crumbly enough to inspire little minds and get a bit of education in under the radar. If your kids need to burn off a bit of excess energy, there are some good, modern things to see and do, such as paying a visit to the Go Ape Centre in Matfen or a cycle along some of the many cycle paths. Alternatively, a visit to The Deep, a world-famous aquarium, makes for an easy way to spend a day out.

What our customers are saying about our Holiday Cottages In Northumberland To Rent.

"ery homely and well-equipped house with Microwave, Cooker, fridge, washing machine, TV, DVD player and HiFi. Comfortable lounge ideal for unwinding in the evening. Separate dining room and everything was very well presented. We were only the second people to rent it out, in August 2017 school holidays at approx. £500 a week it represented good value compared to B&B. Good size bedrooms with ample storage, comfortable beds and a VERY QUIET neighborhood leading to a peaceful night's rest. Downstairs there is a bathroom with Good electric shower and on-demand hot water for lots of baths! Nice sheltered garden although we did not use that nor the garage which is also included. Friendly approachable owners should you need to contact them. Lots of useful information provided in the house on local attractions, amenities ets. Note: Horse Riding: I thoroughly recommend Sinderhope Pony Treking Centre. 2.5 hour canter across the moors for experienced riders is awesome , and it is beautiful drive to the stables from Haltwhistle (approx. 30 mins). Location: Despite the quiet location It really is only 5 minutes walk to the supermarket, or the bustling high-street with lots of interesting shops, and literally only a couple of minutes round the corner from a nice park with swings etc for the kids. It is also ideally suited to accessing Hadrian’s wall, and should you want to visit Hexham (nice town with an interesting Cathedral incl Saxon Crypt) or Carlisle. There is a train station in haltwhistle and a good bus service if you prefer not to drive. Cons: The ONLY slight downside with the property is the very Steep driveway which is not suitable for wheel chair users and may pose issues for others with mobility issues. Would we use again? Definitively if visiting this area in the future I would have NO hesitation in doing so, especially outside of school holidays :-) . Summary: It was a lovely relaxing week and a smashing place to come back to at the end of the day"

"Lovely cottage let down by the kitchen. The bedrooms, living room and dining room were all lovely with some nice quirky features. However, it seemed as if the owners hadn't got round to updating the kitchen yet. We stayed over Christmas and although the weather was quite mild the kitchen was freezing - even with both ovens going. There is a radiator but it's round a corner by the back door and had no effect on the kitchen at all. For a property marketed to sleep 8-10 people the stock of kitchenware and utensils was inadequate: not enough wine glasses for 6 people; no highballs etc, just a few mismatched tumblers. No oven gloves!(had to buy our own) Only 2 tea towels provided for a 4 night stay (had to buy extra). Plenty of knives, forks and spoons but not a lot else. Tin opener useless (had to buy our own). The cleanliness of the kitchen was also not great (the rest of the property was fine) - cutlery, plates and pans had obviously just been taken out of the dishwasher and put away without being checked and most were dirty. Such a shame that a lovely property was let down by poor basic standards and hopefully it was just down to the owners being new to holiday letting. One final thing - it needs to be highlighted in the cottage description that there is a steep set of stairs between the kitchen and the dining room (just so people are prepared to have to carry their Christmas dinner from one floor to the next). We would happily stay again (despite the kitchen gripes) as the location is great - nice local pubs, walks and a well stocked co-op round the corner."

"Before we travelled to Haltwhistle the Owners forwarded an E-mail, attaching a comprehensive information pack so that we would enjoy “S82934”. After we arrived in Haltwhistle we received a very warm welcome from the Owners, who had left milk in the fridge and shortbread biscuits to enjoy with tea or coffee. S82934 was well equipped not only with all present-day facilities such as cooker, fridge, washing machine, TV, etc. but also provided everyday items such as bed sheets, towels, soap dispensers, toilet paper, kitchen towels, etc. No need to bring anything! S82934 has a comfortable lounge and a separate dining room and one bedroom with double bed and one bedroom with twin beds and en-suite toilet/washbasin and a bathroom downstairs. There is a nice Garden at the back, a Garage and a somewhat steep drive to park the car! The Owners have left a host of information at S82934 which comes in handy to make best use of the amenities offered in Haltwhistle or to explore the Tourist Attractions in the Area. S82934 is conveniently located as it is in easy walking distance to the Town Centre or Sainsburys Store and it is ideally placed for the many Tourist Attractions that Northumberland has to offer, with Hadrian’s Wall a short travelling distance away. Maureen and Brian, the Owners, live in Haltwhistle and are easy to get hold of if there is a need to do so! We would have no hesitation to return to S82934 or to recommend it to family members or friends."

"The Gin Gang was situated perfectly for exploring the lovely area. The building looked fabulous but was very difficult to get into with a step up of over 12 inches.Once inside, again it looked lovely but turned out to be extremely impractical. The table top cooker had two hot plates just inches below a cupboard above not allowing the lid to go on the only saucepan. The kitchen towel had a large hole in it and I wouldn't have left it in the cottage if I was the owner. The furniture layout meant you couldn't watch television without getting a crick in the neck. It needed a lot more thought for comfort and practical useage. The bedroom was beautiful after going up three steps but due to furniture choice there was only a gap of about 10 to 12 inches to get between the bed and a wardrobe to access the bathroom.Outside there was a table and seating but was in a poor condition to make a good impression. For us it was very disappointing for the money. We are very sorry to have to give this type of feed back. We are not people to find fault but it is such that we could n't recommend it to others."

"We're sure this would be a lovely apartment for a lot of people. We found all the rooms to be much smaller than they appeared on the website. Getting out of the left side of the bed was a really tight squeeze! The bed was lovely and comfortable but the sofa and dining chairs were quite lumpy and hard. There was nowhere to store any food other than the fridge and freezer. It was obviously more suited to people who like to eat out. If you like to be in the centre of things with resatuarants, pubs and shops on your doorstep, this is the place to be. As the apartment is at the front of the building and has the original windows, it is a very noisy place and we were frequently woken up through the night by loud cars and noisy people in the street below. One night a group of lads were kicking dustbins right outside and shouting for about 10 minutes at 3.30 in the morning. Cameron was a nice chap but didn't bother to fix the broken window in the lounge as promised - luckily it was only the first night that it was cold."
