The Cottage is very central to the village and a good location.
The day we got to the cottage there was a lot of road works in the village therefore we were not able to take the car anywhere near the property to unload. We could have been warned of this but we were not. Instructions on how to find the actual cottage were minimal and we had to ask people as they were walking up the hill. A little map might have helped immensely. The key was in the key safe as informed and was easy to access. There was no permit and bringing down cases for three people and a dog was tough. The cottage was very small but photographed very well in the advert as it was made to look much bigger than it is. It looked much brighter on the photos itâs quite dingy and tired in the front room. Sunny cottage it is not ! It felt tired and in need of a bit of TLC. The kitchen is well equipped and everything worked well. Two tea towels provided. Cloth for the washing up and washing liquid. The double bed room was pleasant but the bed is very small for two fully grown adults. Comfortable mattress with topper on the bed but still not one night of decent sleep as unable to move without disturbing one another. Stools on either side of bed were useless and had lamps on them. Small wall lights would have made better use of the space and a bigger bed, normal sized would have been so much better. We came home a night earlier just to get in our own bed. The bathroom was extremely small. But I guess we can accept that, as it wonât have been something originally in the cottage! but as soon as the door is opened a person struggles to get around it to get into the room without falling over the loo or manoeuvring around the sink. This is doable. The shower is easy to work out and hot . But there was only one bath towel each. No hand towels each. For a week with no washing machine that was insufficient. I had to go out to Sainsburies and buy more towels halfway through the week ! I would just have brought more towels from home if we were warned to do so ! It would have been fine ! But we were just caught unaware as the cottage was said to be equipped. The top bed room is lovely but probably to small for two people. Great for children I expect not adults. We were one other adult my daughter and she was fine but maybe a statement on the advertisement saying small and room suited to children would help the guest make an informed choice. The winding pathways past the property are wonderful and enchanting, giving a real sense of years gone by. Lovely week had despite unpredictable weather. We tried to drink clothes for any eventuality I guess which made us a little more burdened but it was fine. We felt we had certainly exercised by the end of our stay.

We've stayed with Yorkshire Costal Cottages previously and recognised that the quality of your holiday apartments was higher than other Whitby holiday letting companies.
That said we would not return or recommend this property. We found the attention to little details lacking eg. lack of clothes drying screen, a sweeping brush, general instructions for settling in, etc. Also some annoying little things like the lack of bin bags, toilet roll, cooker dial numbers rubbed off, etc. The shower head was also hanging off the wall and the pipes howled at certain temperatures. The biggest complaint was the noise from occupants using the patio upstairs which was directly outside our bedrooms and kept our kids awake late into the night. I understand this property is also managed by Yorkshire Costal Cottages, so surely you could request occupants to respect their neighbour and possibly suggest a curfew time for using the patio such as 10pm. After the second night disturbed by the noise and having to comfort my crying daughter who wasn't able to sleep, I had a polite word. That appeared to work on the night but the family's late night patio gatherings continued for the rest of the week. This really spoilt our stay and quite stressful each night waiting to see if things would kick off. To be honest folks I never leave reviews as I feel there as so much people whinging on social media about the smallest of thing, therefore, you cannot underestimate how disappointed we were with this property. Kind regards David Alexander

Not for us.
The pictures of this cottage donât quite reflect reality as they make it look brighter, bigger and sunnier than it is. The cottage does not get the sun and is therefore quite dark. We found that many of the things in the cottage (eg. the clock, lamps, dustbin, towels, some of the bedroom furniture) appeared to be cheap and neither good quality nor reflective of the style of the cottage. The sash window in the main bedroom doesnât stay open and I had to use some books to prop it open. We were left the absolute minimum amount of hand soap and toilet rolls in the bathroom and had to go out and buy more of each. It just didnât seem good value for money and, given the size, it would be very optimistic to suggest that 4 people could be comfortable there. There are better properties in the bay for less money - they just werenât available at the time. On the plus side, the beds were very comfortable and we slept well. The sofa was comfortable, the little kitchen area was quite nice and well stocked and there are a couple of lovely chairs in the bedrooms. We had lovely neighbours who we enjoyed chatting with, Robin Hoodâs Bay was fantastic and we did have a good time despite being a little disappointed in the cottage.

The location was great and the cottage very quirky but not suitable for dogs at all.
There is no garden and no grassed area so wherever the dog needs to relieve its self outside the cottage can only be next to someone else's property or down the steps to the cobbled shopping areas. The lounge is on the second floor and the steps are too steep and difficult for dogs. Most owners have the dogs with them in the lounge, they dont leave them on their own on another floor. The furnishings were very old, tired and uncomfortable. The easily accessible drawers to put clothes in the bedroom were full of towels and bedding for the cottage and the other small drawers difficult to get to.The shower was pretty much useless, over the bath with no shower rail. The parking permit is pretty useless as its for a parking area much further away from the central car park in town, which in itself is quite some distance across town to carry luggage, with a dog and our grandchild. No complementary condiments to give the lovely welcome most cottage do. No black bag for the bin, no spare toilet roll. The cottage feels like the owners cant be bothered putting in that special effort to make a nice welcome for guests but still are charging a high price. We will never stay there again and wont recommend to our friends.

My first long stay in whitby and this property was a great little hub for the week.
On arrival we literally parked outside and used the 1hr permit provided to unload our vehicle. Additional long stay permits were provided too but parking in those were tricky. A bit of patience, waiting and circling around usually provided a place when someone left. However there is plenty of free parking available before entering the main permit zones which are a 5mins walk from the accommodation. Other reviews mention the sofas but they are now updated the broadband was high speed and perfect throughout. This property is small and compact which can be a plus or negative based on the visitors own tastes. We liked it alot. Pros : Great location Some parking permits provided Off the main street so added privacy High speed broadband Cozy Clean Dog friendly Cons : Small Little kitchen space Tight steep stairs, potentially problematic for certain people. Overall we found this place good value for money, it was clean, cozy and well located. The doggy shop is literally outside. Parking in whitby as a whole is difficult and not the fault of the property and we were provided with permits for our stay. If we come to whitby again we would actually consider this property again.
