Relax and recharge with our beautiful Whitby holiday apartments

Looking out over the wild North Sea and surrounded by the North Yorkshire National Park, the historic seaside town of Whitby in North Yorkshire is the perfect place for a relaxing getaway.

Offering idyllic natural beauty, unique historical sites and classic seaside charm, it is no wonder that visitors have been flocking to this gem on the Yorkshire coast for centuries.

Whether you spend your holiday scouring the boutiques that line the cobbled streets, chilling out on the beach and challenging your gang to games along the Victorian pavilion, or heading out to Moors in search of rare wildlife, Whitby has something for everyone.

To complete your trip to this brilliant UK holiday destination, browse our wide selection of hand-selected Whitby holiday apartments. From contemporary apartments in the centre of town and cosy apartments overlooking the sparkling harbour to traditional Whitby holiday rentals surrounded by nature, you're sure to find the perfect holiday home to make your trip one to remember.

Why choose a Whitby weekend break or staycation?

With idyllic natural beauty, bucket-loads of history, and quintessential British seaside charm, Whitby is a fantastic holiday destination for adventure, fun, and relaxation.

It's impossible to come to Whitby and not fall in love with this delightful town. The streets are lined with cobbled stones and some of the prettiest shops and restaurants you'll ever see. You can spend happy hours strolling through the narrow alleys and streets, making you feel completely disconnected from the modern world.

This historic seaside town is famous for its connection to vampires. Bram Stoker, the author of Dracula, was inspired by the haunting beauty of Whitby, particularly Whitby Abbey and the cemetery at St. Mary's Church, and used them as a backdrop for his chilling tale.

You can see many of the locations in the novel, including climbing the 199 cobbled stone steps up to the beautiful abbey. Although the climb takes a bit of effort, the spectacular views from the top makes it all worth it. You can wander around the abbey's atmospheric remains, feel like you've stepped back in time, and take in the gorgeous surroundings.

There's more to Whitby's history than just vampires. It's also known for being the home of the legendary James Cook, one of the most accomplished explorers of all time. You can learn more about Cook and his exciting adventures at the brilliant Captain Cook Museum.

Aside from its fascinating history, Whitby is an excellent seaside resort with everything you could want from a break by the sea. The Whitby Pavilion was constructed during the Victorian era, and is brimming with things to do and see. There's a theatre, and festivals and art events throughout the year.

No British seaside holiday is complete without having a go at the amusement arcades, and you'll find excellent fish and chip shops, sweet tearooms, and traditional boutiques to keep you busy when you're not splashing in the sea.

Whitby Harbour is another attraction you'll love exploring. The harbourside cottages look like they've come straight from the pages of a storybook, with quirky exteriors, pretty pastel facades, and boats bobbing gently on the water. To see the harbour in all its glory, you can join a boat tour and enjoy a relaxing tour into Whitby Bay.

Crabbing is a popular activity in Whitby, so why not pick up a net or crab-catching kit and see if you can catch some crabs of your own? The best place to head to for crabbing is next to the swing bridge that separates the harbour from the old town.

Whether you book a short break to recharge your batteries or want to make the most of everything on offer over a couple of weeks, a Whitby holiday is sure to leave an impression.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Samantha - Verified booking

A great place, but it is very, very noisy as it is in central Whitby near pubs and an insanely large and talkative seagull population and the cottage has no double glazing!

(Please bear in mind we have plenty of seaside holidays and are quite happy to hear seagulls. However, the seagull population of an active fishing harbour with a fair few of them on your roof most nights, they do not appear to sleep even at 4am lol, is a very different matter and is where double glazing is a marvellous modern invention!) The pub down the road has a regular karaoke night and you can name the songs to give you some idea of how the noise carries into the house! The beds are also quite creaky as they are metal framed beds, although they are very comfortable. We went and bought some ear plugs in the end! Having said all that, once you get used to the noise and have your ear plugs it is a lovely, clean and spacious place to stay, it's convenient for Whitby, has a lovely coffee shop on the corner and we were really excited to book again for next year to stay again. Its worth noting for anyone with mobility difficulties that the kitchen, living room and 2 bedrooms are each on separate floors, and the top bedroom/ attic is nice and cosy but if you have mobility difficulties you might find it a little tight to get in and out of bed. With regards to parking, you can only park on the street outside for an hour if you have a parking disk; you cannot buy a parking ticket for this area, so you will need someone to sit in the car or pop a note in the car window to tell the (very active and prompt traffic wardens) that you have popped in to get your parking disk (on the coffee table in the cottage on the first floor when you get in) to pop it in the car before you start unloading. You can park on the street for free from 7pm - 9am. There is also a car park behind the Poundland. This requires paying from 9am - 6pm. This is a short stay car park and you can only buy a 6 hour parking ticket from this ticket machine, so not enough for a whole day. It is worth noting however that parking tickets you buy can be used in any Scarborough car park, and the long stay car parks are on the sea front (West Cliff) and Whitby Abbey. We saw quite a few parking tickets being given out so it is worthwhile planning your parking if you are planning on staying in the town for the day. The place was lovely and clean and spacious. We would have happily booked again but the price for next year is far, far too high for this sort of property given the noise, that there is no outdoor space and the amount you will pay for parking - almost £800 for a week and not even in the school holidays!! Over £200 more than what we have just paid for exactly the same week!!!! So we will not be booking for next year and will find somewhere else in the Whitby area. Quite frankly that kind of hiking up of prices just sends customers elsewhere so it's pretty pointless, I'm very disappointed to see prices hiked up like that, this is a nice place but not a luxury property that commands that kind of money at all. Lost customer!!!!

We were in Whitby for the folk week.

The cottage was ideally situated for the events of interest to us.Some people comment of issues with the stairs but we didn't have any problems even carrying instruments. Seen much worse in Whitby. The windows look out over a busy street but noise was not an issue. The Sykes listing is wrong in two key facts - access time is not 5pm. The cottage documents show earlier than this but it is too late to know after travelling. It would be good to get a text on the arrival day to say that the cottage is ready for us, Further, leave time is a more conventional 10am, not 9 per the website. We were nearly put off booking by the incorrect times. Secondly the listing refers to permit parking nearby so one thinks of the scratch cards but the cottage has a permit to use at West Cliff car park for the duration of the stay. The property has a very well appointed: kitchen which had all required appliances except perhaps a tea strainer. Cupboards full of more glasses, mugs and plates that you ever would need in an accommodation this size. Sink drainer stand not the right size for the crockery though. Furniture is looking a bit battered but comfy enough. There are no fewer than 3 tvs but we did not use having the folk week entertainment Bedrooms are a bit tight for space and we had to move the twin beds across to be able to open the wardrobes. The beds are OK. Access to the bathroom is down 2 steep steps and in the middle of the night one really needs a hand rail to navigate safely. Slippers recommended as the steps dig into bare feet. The walk in shower is good but the operation is very stiff. Although there is a warning in the handbook you haven't read that in the shower on arrival. Better still just sort it. Nice towels but no where to dry them. The radiators are too close to the wall to hang them on. Please provide a heated towel rail.

Thank you for a wonderful stay in our favourite Whitby.

It’s been our 4th holiday to Whitby and the cottage itself was my favourite property that we have stayed in. We loved how it was tucked away but still right in the centre. The location was perfect. We loved how many of the original features remained and have been well looked after. Each room was cosy, spotlessly clean and inviting. A few tweaks that we felt could have made this perfect… The shower screen could do with an upgrade. The suction at the bottom that holds the screen in place is too loose and any slight movement causes it to come away leaving the bathroom floor very wet and the bathroom window only stays open if you use something to prop it up. I’m not sure who is in charge of the alleyway and courtyard but it could do with a little TLC. Whilst I appreciate this is nothing to do with the property itself, it could do with a tidy up and a good sweep which will make the property even more appealing. The bedrooms were very specious, the main bedroom on the 1st floor had beautiful high ceilings which made it very light and airy but the mattress wasn’t the comfiest. It felt quite thin. The room on the top floor was perfect for the kids. The slanted roof did make the space around the bed awkward but the kids were fine so it’s definitely better for kids up there. Lastly there is no Wi-Fi in the property. Which is fine if you have an unlimited data package but if you don’t then you may struggle. All in all we had a wonderful stay and even looking to book the same property again next year. Thank you.

The holiday cottage is fabulous, great location and really well equipped.

Only one complaint about the actual property being the bed mattress in both bedrooms is soooo uncomfortable. We tested both and in the end used the second duvet as a mattress topper, but still had sore hips and a bad back all week! There is a lot of flights of stars in the cottage, so you need to be pretty mobile to stay here. Our big complaint is that the property is advertised as having parking! Parking should mean having access to a dedicated parking space 24/7. This is why we chose this cottage. Be warned this cottage has NO parking! A permit is provided to park for 1 hour to load...if you can get a space. A scratch card provided allows you to park for 3 hours only, over half a mile away, again only if you can get a space! Obviously on Goth Weekend these are full, and unless you want to spend your whole holiday watching the clock and moving your car around town, you will need to find somewhere you can park unrestricted, Be prepared to walk a long way, never need access to your car, and never need to move it as you will loose the spot! This cottage should not be advertised as having parking, it is misrepresented. It has none, and should be advertised as such. It is a shame because the cottage itself is lovely, despite the uncomfortable beds!

Comfortable, clean and well appointed especially the kitchen & lounge.

Fabulous for amenities. Great example of historical “living”. * Parking is a major issue with an immediate parking bay (zone H), scratch card marked zone W & a disc but the map is pale and with limited info and NO info on disabled parking badges. No info on public car parks. A huge stressor for me. * Visitor info pack (VIP) no info on how to change bath to shower tap - turning it simply took it off in my hand, luckily my partner reinstated it. VIP was a rather disheveled booklet & could do with refreshing. * Bedroom acoustic attenuation very poor with creaking floor (loft) disturbing occupant below and lack of a door causing light & noise disturbance from below to occupant of loft bedroom. * Can’t turn 1st floor landing light off from loft bed/top of loft stairs. * At 5’2” I could only get out of 1 side of the loft bed & even then had to bob my head under the rafter. I cannot see how 2 adults could get in & out of that bed without head injury. A framed metal bed made it harder to get around - it would be better to have the 1st floor divan bed there. * Rather romantic referring to loft dressing table as lighting poor. * Had to hang dresses in the 1st floor bedroom as insufficient height of hanging in loft bedroom.
