Relax and recharge with our beautiful Whitby holiday apartments

Looking out over the wild North Sea and surrounded by the North Yorkshire National Park, the historic seaside town of Whitby in North Yorkshire is the perfect place for a relaxing getaway.

Offering idyllic natural beauty, unique historical sites and classic seaside charm, it is no wonder that visitors have been flocking to this gem on the Yorkshire coast for centuries.

Whether you spend your holiday scouring the boutiques that line the cobbled streets, chilling out on the beach and challenging your gang to games along the Victorian pavilion, or heading out to Moors in search of rare wildlife, Whitby has something for everyone.

To complete your trip to this brilliant UK holiday destination, browse our wide selection of hand-selected Whitby holiday apartments. From contemporary apartments in the centre of town and cosy apartments overlooking the sparkling harbour to traditional Whitby holiday rentals surrounded by nature, you're sure to find the perfect holiday home to make your trip one to remember.

Why choose a Whitby weekend break or staycation?

With idyllic natural beauty, bucket-loads of history, and quintessential British seaside charm, Whitby is a fantastic holiday destination for adventure, fun, and relaxation.

It's impossible to come to Whitby and not fall in love with this delightful town. The streets are lined with cobbled stones and some of the prettiest shops and restaurants you'll ever see. You can spend happy hours strolling through the narrow alleys and streets, making you feel completely disconnected from the modern world.

This historic seaside town is famous for its connection to vampires. Bram Stoker, the author of Dracula, was inspired by the haunting beauty of Whitby, particularly Whitby Abbey and the cemetery at St. Mary's Church, and used them as a backdrop for his chilling tale.

You can see many of the locations in the novel, including climbing the 199 cobbled stone steps up to the beautiful abbey. Although the climb takes a bit of effort, the spectacular views from the top makes it all worth it. You can wander around the abbey's atmospheric remains, feel like you've stepped back in time, and take in the gorgeous surroundings.

There's more to Whitby's history than just vampires. It's also known for being the home of the legendary James Cook, one of the most accomplished explorers of all time. You can learn more about Cook and his exciting adventures at the brilliant Captain Cook Museum.

Aside from its fascinating history, Whitby is an excellent seaside resort with everything you could want from a break by the sea. The Whitby Pavilion was constructed during the Victorian era, and is brimming with things to do and see. There's a theatre, and festivals and art events throughout the year.

No British seaside holiday is complete without having a go at the amusement arcades, and you'll find excellent fish and chip shops, sweet tearooms, and traditional boutiques to keep you busy when you're not splashing in the sea.

Whitby Harbour is another attraction you'll love exploring. The harbourside cottages look like they've come straight from the pages of a storybook, with quirky exteriors, pretty pastel facades, and boats bobbing gently on the water. To see the harbour in all its glory, you can join a boat tour and enjoy a relaxing tour into Whitby Bay.

Crabbing is a popular activity in Whitby, so why not pick up a net or crab-catching kit and see if you can catch some crabs of your own? The best place to head to for crabbing is next to the swing bridge that separates the harbour from the old town.

Whether you book a short break to recharge your batteries or want to make the most of everything on offer over a couple of weeks, a Whitby holiday is sure to leave an impression.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Miss Aldred - Verified booking

This was our 2nd stay at the Black Pearl and it didn’t disappoint. The rooms are well equipped and comfortable. It’s not too far from all the shops and pubs but with most properties in Whitby it’s a hilly walk back to the apartment. Not a criticism just fact. The beds are comfortable and although there are blinds and curtains at the windows in the bedroom, it might be worth considering black out blinds or curtains as these would be a bonus. Since our previous visit the tv had been put on the wall rather than free standing. Personal opinion it’s placed too high. The tvs in the bedrooms are a little on the small side. These really are just personal choices and on the whole the apartment didn’t disappoint. We had a lovely break it was comfortable and a quiet holiday. Would certainly return and would recommend to others.

Nice little cottage, heat was not locked off so if you need some extra heat you could have some, shower was very good. Beds where comfortable and good quality towels were provided. Also the Nespresso machine was a nice touch but could've done with some more pods. Perhaps some could be provided for free and there after a way to buy extra from perhaps some kind of despenser. The shortbread biscuits and chocolate fingers where very well received. Only real difficulty was trying to unload and load the car as there was nowhere sensible to park for that period. We used the entrance to the barrier car park next door and manhandled the luggage across the carpark and passed it over the fence at the closest corner to the cottage. I would recommend and I would use again.

Great location for getting into town, bus station and train station. Cosy and comfy beds, full kitchen and powerful shower. No long mirror and the seats on lounge are not that relaxing after a day's sight seeing. Quite a dark and cold cottage, even in summer as the sun doesn't shine in the cottage at all, but the heating works well. You get what you pay for and this cottage was cheaper than most so satisfactory for the price. For these reasons that's why I recommend it but I think we'd go for a pricier one next time for more comfort.

    • Mr Christopher Alderson - Verified booking

We had a lovely week in a charming property. It was close to the town and the beach. The property was comfortable, any questions were answered quickly. A wonderful gesture with the bag of supplies that were there on arrival. We really appreciated that. Thank you. We managed to find a parking spot and left the car there for thee week so travelled by bus or walked. The map of the parking zones was really useful - maybe you could supply this before to help people plan where to look for parking.

    • Mr Ponce De Leon - Verified booking

The cottage is very cozy, comfortable and well looked after, and the location is perfect. Its main issues are 1) accessibility, as there is no vehicle access and nowhere to park on the road (the owners helpfully provide parking discs for zone W, which only tends to have available spaces on the other side of Pannett Park, and 2) lack of a washing machine, which when booking for 1 week and going on muddy/beach walks becomes essential. Other than this, I would definitely recommend.

    Frequent questions

    • Is it easy to walk around Whitby?

Whitby is a small, charming town on the east coast of England that is easily navigable on foot. Its compact town centre and pedestrian-friendly streets make it convenient to explore the main attraction. While the hilly terrain and potential crowds during peak seasons should be considered, walking remains a delightful way to experience the beauty and ambiance of Whitby.

Yes, Whitby is definitely worth visiting. This picturesque town offers a unique blend of history, stunning natural beauty, and a charming atmosphere. From the iconic Whitby Abbey and historic harbour to the beautiful coastline and quaint streets, there is plenty to see and explore. Whether you're interested in history, scenic walks, or simply enjoying the local seafood, Whitby has something to offer for visitors of all interests.

    • Is it safe to swim in the sea at Whitby?

Swimming in the sea at Whitby requires caution due to strong currents and variable conditions. It is recommended to consult local authorities or lifeguards for updated information on sea conditions and to be prepared for cooler temperatures as the North Sea is typically cold, even in summer.
