Relax and recharge with our beautiful Whitby holiday apartments

Looking out over the wild North Sea and surrounded by the North Yorkshire National Park, the historic seaside town of Whitby in North Yorkshire is the perfect place for a relaxing getaway.

Offering idyllic natural beauty, unique historical sites and classic seaside charm, it is no wonder that visitors have been flocking to this gem on the Yorkshire coast for centuries.

Whether you spend your holiday scouring the boutiques that line the cobbled streets, chilling out on the beach and challenging your gang to games along the Victorian pavilion, or heading out to Moors in search of rare wildlife, Whitby has something for everyone.

To complete your trip to this brilliant UK holiday destination, browse our wide selection of hand-selected Whitby holiday apartments. From contemporary apartments in the centre of town and cosy apartments overlooking the sparkling harbour to traditional Whitby holiday rentals surrounded by nature, you're sure to find the perfect holiday home to make your trip one to remember.

Why choose a Whitby weekend break or staycation?

With idyllic natural beauty, bucket-loads of history, and quintessential British seaside charm, Whitby is a fantastic holiday destination for adventure, fun, and relaxation.

It's impossible to come to Whitby and not fall in love with this delightful town. The streets are lined with cobbled stones and some of the prettiest shops and restaurants you'll ever see. You can spend happy hours strolling through the narrow alleys and streets, making you feel completely disconnected from the modern world.

This historic seaside town is famous for its connection to vampires. Bram Stoker, the author of Dracula, was inspired by the haunting beauty of Whitby, particularly Whitby Abbey and the cemetery at St. Mary's Church, and used them as a backdrop for his chilling tale.

You can see many of the locations in the novel, including climbing the 199 cobbled stone steps up to the beautiful abbey. Although the climb takes a bit of effort, the spectacular views from the top makes it all worth it. You can wander around the abbey's atmospheric remains, feel like you've stepped back in time, and take in the gorgeous surroundings.

There's more to Whitby's history than just vampires. It's also known for being the home of the legendary James Cook, one of the most accomplished explorers of all time. You can learn more about Cook and his exciting adventures at the brilliant Captain Cook Museum.

Aside from its fascinating history, Whitby is an excellent seaside resort with everything you could want from a break by the sea. The Whitby Pavilion was constructed during the Victorian era, and is brimming with things to do and see. There's a theatre, and festivals and art events throughout the year.

No British seaside holiday is complete without having a go at the amusement arcades, and you'll find excellent fish and chip shops, sweet tearooms, and traditional boutiques to keep you busy when you're not splashing in the sea.

Whitby Harbour is another attraction you'll love exploring. The harbourside cottages look like they've come straight from the pages of a storybook, with quirky exteriors, pretty pastel facades, and boats bobbing gently on the water. To see the harbour in all its glory, you can join a boat tour and enjoy a relaxing tour into Whitby Bay.

Crabbing is a popular activity in Whitby, so why not pick up a net or crab-catching kit and see if you can catch some crabs of your own? The best place to head to for crabbing is next to the swing bridge that separates the harbour from the old town.

Whether you book a short break to recharge your batteries or want to make the most of everything on offer over a couple of weeks, a Whitby holiday is sure to leave an impression.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Miss Charlotte Stainton - Verified booking

We had an urgent problem during our stay and we were not able to contact you for 12 hours -I will be sending a separate email about this. The location of the property and the views are absolutely fantastic. The new owners have spent significant money on the windows and settees since we stayed last time and these have really enhanced the apartment. The photos on your website should be updated to reflect this. Unfortunately the bed in the largest bedroom was VERY uncomfortable and creaky, and needs to be replaced urgently (not just the mattress). The sliding wardrobe doors also need to be replaced, a chest of drawers added, and a mirror above the dressing table to the main bedroom. A property of this quality and price should ideally have an ensuite to the main bedroom, a dishwasher, and the fridge needs a freezer compartment. We had a lovely stay but with a few adjustments it could be perfect.

We found pier apartment to be in a great location for exploring Whitby. However with small children we did have issues at the weekend with the pub next door. It played loud music till midnight which vibrated through the floor. Not idea when trying to put children to bed. However this was only at the weekend. We found the apartment comfortable and clean enough. It did lack a freezer which we would have benefited from as we have a child with food allergies and being able to bring food from home would have been a bonus. The best part of the apartment for us was the amazing view over the water. That made the holiday for us and our children loved it. They were a permanent feature at the window and spend every minute at the apartment watching the boats. This made it the perfect place for us if we had to return to Whitby I’m sure it would be to pier apartment!

The apartment was excellent. It was very well equipped, tastefully decorated and exceptionally clean. Jenny contacted me by text on the day of our arrival to let me know that the apartment was ready. She had thoughtfully provided basic supplies of tea, coffee, milk, cake etc along with a bottle of wine, together with a welcome note which provided us with contact details in case of problems. My grandson particularly appreciated the Easter egg! The property is very well placed, being only a 5 minute walk into town with good access to walks, beach and shops. The designated parking was a particular bonus for us, especially as it was Goth weekend and Whitby was busier than usual. We would love to stay in Jenny's apartment again in the near future. Thankyou.

Harbour Rise is a fantastic place to stay in Whitby. The property is absolutely spotless and beautifully presented. Plenty of space to relax in too. Nice, powerful shower amd quality kitchen crockery and utensils. Jenny couldn’t have been more helpful in making our stay a pleasant one, from leaving a lovely welcome gift basket to ensuring we had all everything we needed for staying with an infant too. She was great at keeping us informed about how to check in and, although we didn’t need to, was always just a message or call away if we needed anything. The town centre is a very short stroll away and having secure parking was a huge benefit for us. Would not hesitate to recommend to others. We had a lovely stay and we’re sure you will too!

Absolutely beautiful apartment! Well equipped and in a brilliant location. The owner of the property made us feel very welcome. The whole holiday experience, from booking to vacating the property has been straightforward and easy. We did have a minor issue on booking our holiday due to a promotion code not working but the team were easy to contact, responded quickly and resolved the issue straight away. Directions and details regarding entry to the property were very clear and convenient. Contact with the property owner was great, Jenny was very attentive and answered all queries. Jenny made us feel very welcome by leaving us some local treats and a lovely card.

    Frequent questions

    • Is it easy to walk around Whitby?

Whitby is a small, charming town on the east coast of England that is easily navigable on foot. Its compact town centre and pedestrian-friendly streets make it convenient to explore the main attraction. While the hilly terrain and potential crowds during peak seasons should be considered, walking remains a delightful way to experience the beauty and ambiance of Whitby.

Yes, Whitby is definitely worth visiting. This picturesque town offers a unique blend of history, stunning natural beauty, and a charming atmosphere. From the iconic Whitby Abbey and historic harbour to the beautiful coastline and quaint streets, there is plenty to see and explore. Whether you're interested in history, scenic walks, or simply enjoying the local seafood, Whitby has something to offer for visitors of all interests.

    • Is it safe to swim in the sea at Whitby?

Swimming in the sea at Whitby requires caution due to strong currents and variable conditions. It is recommended to consult local authorities or lifeguards for updated information on sea conditions and to be prepared for cooler temperatures as the North Sea is typically cold, even in summer.
