If you can't leave your dog behind, but love to go on holiday, Whitby has a range of dog friendly cottages. Whether you are looking for a cosy cottage for two, or a larger place suitable for a group, Whitby has a lovely selection of cottages for you and your dog. Nestled on the Yorkshire coast, Whitby is surrounded by a National Park and has it's very own sandy beach. With so much open space available, what better place to book a dog friendly cottage.

    Dog friendly activities in Whitby

The North York Moors National Park which surrounds Whitby, is a great place to take you dog. For the best dog friendly walking, where your dog can run around with more freedom, head to the Forestry Commission Woods. In this wooded area there are tracks and paths as well as public rights of way to explore. After a long afternoon's walk, you can return to the peace of your dog friendly cottage for some relaxation.

Whitby has a great sandy beach, perfect for bracing winter walks. In the summer the east side beach continues to welcome so you and your dog can enjoy the sea and sand any time of year. If you want to head into town, there's no need to leave your dog behind. There are various attractions in Whitby that are dog friendly such as Crescent Gardens, Doddlepots and on the Old Glory Steam Bus.

Nearby you can visit Robin Hood's Bay, Runswick Bay, or Gladisdale.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Robert - Verified booking

Lovely cottage, great location and very comfortable.

All the appliances you’ll need and a very nice owner. We had an issue with the door lock and it was fixed within 2 hours. The only disappointment was the cleanliness. All x3 Sofas were absolutely covered in white dog hairs and it took us 45 minutes with a vacuum cleaner to get them off. On removing the seat cushions we were horrified to see how dirty it was underneath. I don’t blame the owner for this but mainly the filthy people who were in the cottage before us (clearly a small dog was allowed to climb all over the furniture) with little respect for other people’s property. I appreciate this is a dog friendly cottage but we cleaned up any mess caused by our Labrador and he certainly isn’t allowed on furniture. The rest of the blame goes to the cleaning services provider, whose standards of cleanliness is very different to ours. Apart from that, it’s a beautiful place to stay and I’d definitely recommend it.

      Wayside is an incredible property.

From the outside it looks small but inside it’s extremely roomy with three large double bedrooms (one has twin beds but could easily fit another couple of beds as it’s so big). Unlike some holiday cottages, this feels like a home from home with beautiful furnishings in the large living room making it so cosy. The kitchen is well equipped meaning you don’t need to take anything with you - nothing has been overlooked by an obviously very thoughtful owner. I’ve left the best until last - the views!! Spectacular views from every window in the house and garden, which backs onto a large field of free range chickens (we bought a dozen of their eggs and they were so tasty. There is a pub serving good food a few steps away and a railway station 2 minutes walk away that takes you to Whitby via some of the local villages. I cannot recommend this property enough. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time here.

The cottage was immaculate and had everything available that you could possibly think of. I was glad that we took throws with us to cover the lovely furniture. Our dogs didn’t attempt to sit on the sofas but you can never be sure of what animals might try out of their own home! The garden was fantastic for the dogs first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Our bed was beautifully comfortable and we found that the bathroom shower was more powerful than the one in the en-suite. The village was quiet with lovely walks. We found a gem for eating. A short way up the hill in the village is a small, immaculate, quiet caravan park. There you will find the Coast Cafe bar. The owners used to run a restaurant and you can tell. The food is simply amazing - the best we had anywhere. With Whitby a spit away and such a friendly, accommodating owner of Avon Croft Cottage, this is surely a 10/10 stay for anyone.

Our Family had a brilliant stay at Avon Croft (6 Adults, 1 baby 6 month old and 2 dogs).

The first thing that we noticed walking through the door is how clean and well decorated it was. It was well maintained and the rooms were well equipped and comfortable. We were a little worried when we booked that it was on a busy road and that would be noisy. I can say that wasn't a problem and you would hardly notice the road. I would only give one piece of advice and that is if you are bringing a baby and going to use the fold up cot supplied. It is very difficult to lock in the right position. We initially thought it was broken but no it's just very tight to lock in the usable position. Also if you have a small baby a crib blanket is not big enough to cover the larger cot mattress. These are just things worth knowing if you are bring a baby. Personally I can't fault either the cottage or the owners communication. We had a great Holiday so Thank you to all.

The cottage was very nice and very clean but if I had to put it down in any way ...

The cottage was very nice and very clean but if I had to put it down in any way then it would have to be the bathroom only because it has a bath tub but the shower couldn’t be connected to the wall above so having to sit in the bath and then have a wash because the bath was not long enough to lay down but in the short stay we had then it was ok, The double bed was ok and beding was fine, Also maybe a few more teaspoons , but on the whole it was a good cottage and in the centre of all the places I did visit also the front door pvc has dropped a little bit and needs adjusting but as I said it was a lovely cottage, Many thanks Colin Jenkins Who stayed august 25 th to 30th i other thing is that it’s a bit early to have to leave the cottage at 9am and should be around noon
