The cottage is clean and very comfortable.
There is an adequate amount of crockery and cutlery for the number of guests and everything is of good quality. The bedrooms are spacious with a lot of storage space. The mattress in the en-suite is medium/soft and the ones in the other room are firm. Sitting in the garden is a nice experience. It is small but well maintained and there is room to keep bicycles. There was no disturbance from neighbours. There are beams in the living room and bedrooms which are challenging for people over 6â. The tv works well for terrestrial channels but there is buffering when streaming, especially at weekends. The car parking is quite irritating at times but probably not a problem outside of school holidays. The cottage is well located for exploring the area with traffic free footpaths leading to Robin Hoodâs bay and Boggle Hole, however they are very steep. A cycle path runs from Whitby to Scarborough through the village and there is a play park in the village in the field behind the Methodist church. It is not signposted so easy to miss.

We were expecting the slight challenges in dropping off the luggage and the steep staircase - the listing info was accurate.
Understand the shared walkway to the cottage is not the owners's sole responsibility but it really is terrible, lined with tall weeds, very littered and generally extremely scruffy. Cottage itself was very clean, top floor beautiful. Some bathroom tiles getting a little mouldy. As a self catering cottage we were expecting to be able to sit at a dining table to eat but there were no chairs, and only 3 easy chairs so for families of 4 presumably someone would be sitting on the floor. The back garden was incredibly weedy, the garden furniture could do with rubbing down and re-treating - it just felt unloved and in need of a little TLC. The TV upstairs was not tuned in and we could only watch Netflix or similar. These are just some honest observations. The cottage is well-equipped, was clean, lovely bed linen and the top floor is great. It was good to note the owners had observed some of the visitors comments (yes we found the Prosecco glasses!)

After telephoning the owner to find out how the dated tv set worked, he said he had tried to contact us to advise there was no hot water apart from the shower.
This meant boiling a kettle to wash hands after using the loo and to wash up. He never arranged any repair during our brief stay. The lavatory leaks and the cistern is faulty with haphazard results when flushing . Sometime the water stops . At other times there is a continual flow of water and the cistern noisily keeps trying to refill. The shower door handle was filthy and there was mould on the clothes airer in the shower room as well on the woodwork. The kitchen is not easy to prepare a meal in as the limited space is cluttered with ornaments and two microwaves. The bed is really only suitable for one person as if the loo is required during the night, one person has to climb over the other. The front door has a letter box without any back flap and so a draught comes through unless it is physically blocked.

Lyndale Cottage was an excellent place to stay allowing easy access to Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby.
Scarborough was a nice drive down the coast. Parking on the road was sometimes not happening, but a place was found in the next street so there were no issues there. Thorpe Stores at the end of the road keeps a wide range of essentials and serves hot breakfast rolls. Round the corner is Barnards Bakery and Butchers, the owner is a nice chap who will make animal shaped bread for children (or adults i suppose!) to order. We particularly liked the "crocodile baguette" they are open later on Friday and Saturday for fresh cooked pizza, which i can also recommend. For children there is an excellent park just at the end of the road near the church which is an excellent place to spend a happy hour of your time in the early evening sun. highly recommended for families wanting to stay on the Yorkshire coast.

We had a fantastic week at Lyndale Cottage - it was a perfect sized property for two grown-ups and two small children, very well equipped, immaculately presented and with a great kitchen, yet with lots of character.
It is in a really nice location, about 20 minutes walk to the bottom of Bay down a lovely path across the fields and through the woods. We walked down to the beach in the morning and then one of us went back to get the car to pick up the kids at the top of the bank which worked well. There is a handy village shop a few doors down, as well as a playground and a good pub less than a minute away. The walks up from the property to Raw and around the bay are really great too. And of course RHB itself is one of the most beautiful locations in the country with lots to do along the coast and just inland at Goatland and May Beck.
