"When we arrived (after the stated time on the booking) the cottage had not yet been cleaned from the previous occupants. We received a written apology but got a bad first impression. The cleaning that was then done was very cursory at best and certain things were left undone - e.g. no replenishment of loo roll, no replenishment of handwash, previous occupants half used toiletries (the supposed complimentary ones in miniature bottles) left behind, hairs etc. left in bathroom. They didn't even plump up the sofa cushions. So that felt a bit sad and was a poor start. We have also come to expect that when you stay somewhere you'll be left with "treats" - none in evidence here and we were not even able to make a cup of tea as there weren't even any teabags. There was nothing to get you started in the kitchen so if you do stay here you'll need all the basics! This feels stingy for a holiday cottage. When there was a power cut, we realised just how under-equipped the cottage was. No blankets, no torches. We were a bit stuck as it really is the middle of nowhere (which we like generally but you might want to note that). There is also no mobile reception for about mile, plus the wifi has not been boosted so you cannot use it in the cottage. And broken furniture is never a good look but the coat stand was sadly broken and had been shoved in a corner rather than being removed / replaced / fixed. So coats had to be on the backs of chairs. Other fittings were really worn, such as place mats being down to the cork. Pretty gross! So while we liked the location and the views, there were significant shortcomings from beginning to end and we would not recommend anyone stay here or with the company which runs it. Shame because the web-site which offers it is a convenient way to book cottages in areas you're unfamiliar with. But on this occasion, they were let down by their local partner."

"We had a fantastic stay at S58111. We were looking for somewhere to be a good base to explore Northumberland, that was away from it all, with great walks from the door. S58111 was perfect for all of this. It is situated in a small hamlet, in the dark sky park. The star gazing at night was just spectacular. The accommodation has been done to a very high standard. It was exceptionally clean, the sofas and beds were comfortable, the kitchen well equipped. There were lots of nice small touches, like hot water bottles, torches in the bedside cabinets (as it really is dark at night, these are needed), and a bottle of prosecco and box of chocolates to welcome us. The heating worked well. The shower could have been better as the water pressure was quite low, but this is to be expected when booking a holiday rental that is in the middle of nowhere, and was good enough for me to wash my very thick hair. The views from the garden were beautiful. The Wifi was fast an reliable. We just loved it here, and for the price we thought it was very good value for money. I would recommend this to anyone, who is looking to stay in the middle of nowhere, but with access to the tourist sights of Northumberland, and also wants to have a bit of luxury from their accommodation."

"The Hemel is a pleasant rural barn conversion, bright and quite spacious. It’s a working farm and some mornings things started early. We had good sunny weather, we really enjoyed looking around Northumberland - there are plenty of fascinating castles, country houses and coastal areas to explore as well as the national park areas. Some days in the late afternoon sunshine we enjoyed relaxing in our private grassed area. The sheep in the adjacent field kept us entertained, from time to time there was a rattle or thud from the nearby Otterburn Ranges. Overall we felt this was a relaxing and peaceful setting, providing that you enjoy a rural holiday cottage. We did have a couple of issues which the owner promptly responded to - but be aware that there is no mobile phone signal, so contacting anyone by phone is difficult."
