Staying in Northumberland

Northumberland is steeped in history and has more historic sites and castles than any other country in England, making it a fascinating place to go on holiday. Why not visit the Alnwick Castle which was voted one of the most beautiful in the UK. The Duke and Duchess of Northumberland still live in the castle as their family has for hundreds of years. They offer an array of activities for kids and adults, including hands-on workshops, theatrical falconry, magic and re-enactments. The tours are amazing, showing you round the castle and pinpointing the places Harry Potter, Elizabeth and TV comedy Blackadder where filmed. Northumberland's coast is spectacular, unspoilt and was designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1958. There are miles and miles of stunning golden beaches with many coastal routes that will take you through quaint little villages so you can get a real taste of Northumberland on your break. Before you go, don't forget to grab a great deal on late availability self catering accommodation.

"This was a good choice of holiday house for our three generation family holiday. We had all we needed in the house and it was very well equipped, with clear directions on how to use everything, and our grandchildren were thrilled with the view of the Farne Island lighthouse from their bedroom window. We had hoped to use the log burner but the weather was much better than expected for the first week in April and we had to turn down the heating, enjoying the sunshine streaming into the house and one or two lovely sunsets. The location was good for touring the area, along the road to Seahouses, then Bamburgh and the Grace Darling Museum and castle, the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne, and Alnwick Castle, but we also enjoyed pottering in the rock pools directly across the road from S37361 and our visit to the sandy beach at the other end of the village. All in all it was a very enjoyable and relaxed week, our 10 week old granddaughter must have thought so as well, as she started to sleep through at night!"

"Great location, well set out, comfortable, plenty of room and seating, well documented instructions for use of equipment and heating etc. Plenty of visitor information on the area. Some places just have enough crockery and utensils for the guests, S37361 had lots which is good as there's no need to put the dishwasher on daily.Things that would have made it home from home is a pizza cutter, looked but couldn't find one, they had a pizza tray and a realistic size toaster, as a 2 slice toaster for a property catering for 6 really lets it down. Queuing for the toast does not make for a relaxing breakfast. The electric tripped out last morning no idea why as as we were packing so no extra usage than normal, but we got that on again. Other than that we loved the place and the only thing stopping us from going back this year, is its fully booked for when we want and the cost at a warmer time of the year. We have a lovely time and really didn't want to leave."

"This House is completely amazing!! Every bit as beautiful as the on line photos and so much more! I have stayed in a lot of rented holiday homes over the years and S37361 is far and away the best equiped house . It was Every kind of kitchen equiptment was there. As well as that there was instruction manuals for every appliance through out the house, this was so useful. You could see thought , care and attention to detail all over the property. The house was spotlessly clean every where. Wonderfully comfy beds, gorgeous bedding and really tasteful seaside decor and accents. The house had loads of room , open spaces, and a super back and front gardens. The large Porch was ideal to store wellies and sandy buckets and the spoils of beach combing. I cannot recommend S37361 enough. Thank Ms Harper for sharing your beautiful family home with us."

"We loved our stay at Casa Nostro, the cottage really does have everything.... books, dvd's, board games, children's indoors and outdoors toys and a fully equipped kitchen. There were no issues during our stay. If I had to say anything about the property I would just say the room with the bunk beds is through the living room, kitchen and dining room away from the other bedrooms and has some damp. Also the kitchen although has everything only has one cuboard for you to put your own things. There is so much there you have to leave your food on the side which isn't ideal. There are more glasses than a pub!Overall we enjoyed a fantastic family holiday. With a supermarket and lovely pub within walking distance and all the fabulous attractions of Northumberland within easy reach via car."

"We were initially pleased with the parking bay however inside was less impressive particularly the persistent smell of gas in the cooking area, more strong first thing in the morning. On the top floor the room was spacious and comfortable but spoiled by the condensation inside the large velux style windows the frames of which were severely corroded and had regularly leaked leaving many unsightly rust stains both below and around the frames. The cleanliness of the toilets left much to be desired and the fact that several table lamps had either failed bulbs or even no bulb at all was disappointing when simple care could have vastly improved the residential experience in a well positioned apartment with super beach views and great access to the beach."
