"I seldom review holiday accommodation, however I feel impelled to do so with S14792 for several reasons. I include both positive and negative points in my review. Overall, I feel S14792 is over-priced for what is offered and that the emphasis on comfort is somewhat overplayed, and I do not deem it to be 'romantic' as advertised in some locations online. For this price range, I expect more in terms of the decor, the quality of the fixtures and fittings, as well as a more effective heating system and the presence of a small welcome such as a pint of local milk or loaf of local bread. The wood burner is simply not enough to heat both the main room and the water during winter. I would also illustrate that I am happy to put on layers and heat my own home in an environmentally conscious way, but given the price and that I was on a much-needed break, a more effective or indeed efficient heating system should be present. I hold the view that being environmentally friendly need not compromise ones comfort, but at S14792 this is the case. At this price point, I would simply not recommend this accommodation to friends or family, as you will have a more comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable stay elsewhere. Positive points include that the property is less than an hours drive from Newcastle upon Tyne, there is a co-op supermarket within walking distance and a good local pub which serves a very good Sunday lunch. Up to two dogs are allowed in the accommodation and the owner can provide additional sheets or blankets for furniture. Furthermore, the owners of the property are knowledgeable about the local area."

"Lovely cottage with lots of outdoor space and beautiful views. The cottage has a balcony overlooking the garden which catches the sun, we really enjoyed sitting out there to eat breakfast! The garden is lovely and there is also an enclosed field just to the side which belongs to the cottage so great for dogs. The village shops and pubs were just a short walk away, the bakery has a great selection of sweet and savoury treats and the local pubs were very friendly (also dog friendly). No restaurants in Stanhope itself but there is a good fish & chip and Indian takeaway, if you want a restaurant meal there are plenty of options a short drive away. We found the cottage was perfectly situated for walking and cycling, a lovely peaceful area, we would definitely come again."

"Lovely quirky cottage which had stunning views. We had a great week's holiday, although the weather could have been a bit warmer! Lots to do up here and some wonderful quiet drives over the moors. As we both suffer with arthritic knees we didn't attempt the walk into town from the cottage but there is plenty of parking and some very nice shops. Would recommend the cottage but feel it wouldn't suit everyone due to the steep stairs down to the kitchen. Loved eating in the dining room with it's arched ceiling although I couldn't stand upright - ok when you're sitting down. The bed was really comfortable and my wife slept better here than at home. We both loved the cottage and also the warm welcome from the owner's daughter."

"A perfect holiday cottage in a fabulous location, stunning views in both directions. There was a welcome pack of bread, chocolates, biscuits and wine on arrival, with fresh flowers in the kitchen. The cottage's decoration is exactly right - clean and fresh while absolutely in keeping with the age of the cottage. Lots of characterful touches too such as the lamps on the bedside tables, comfy cushions and throws to make the place really snug. Great weather so we didn't need the log burner but am sure it would be really cosy in colder weather too. Ample parking for us at the front and a lovely secure sun-trap garden at the back. Sharon and James have thought of everything to make it the ideal base for exploring Weardale."

"This is an amazing property with the WOW factor in bucket loads! It was spotlessly clean and was equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. No expense has been spared by the owners and this makes it a fantastic base to explore the surrounding countryside. The views from the cottage are breathtaking, you can’t grow tired of just sitting, looking. We also witnessed some spectacular sunsets! The nearest big town is Hexham, which has everything you need, and is a lovely place to bimble around. We would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage to anyone. If you are looking for a place to get away from it all and recharge your batteries, you will not find a better place to stay."
