"We booked this delightful property for a family celebration - my mum’s 70th birthday. We chose it mainly because it was just a three-hour drive for everyone (we are fairly far-flung, residing in North Wales, Nottingham and Edinburgh) - and we were thrilled to discover how lovely it was. The location is superb: Bishop Middleham is a quiet village, but it does have two pubs - and there is a well-signposted circular walk (about 3 ½ miles) that really shows off the area. It’s a bit muddy, but worth the muck! Durham is a short drive away, and we enjoyed exploring its picturesque centre. The property itself is near-perfect. There were eight of us - and the two teenagers certainly appreciated having their own single bedrooms up in the eaves. Two of the double bedrooms are very spacious; the third is much smaller but still adequate, and all are beautifully decorated. The shower is great - I really appreciate a hot, powerful shower. None of us made use of the enormous bathtub, but it lends the place a real sense of luxury. The communal areas are all ideal - the living rooms large and comfortable, and the kitchen accessible and well-stocked. The garden is a particular delight; we enjoyed sitting outside for coffee, even when it was raining. We also appreciated the cakes that were waiting for us on arrival. Yum.Would we recommend S88932 to others? Yes, without hesitation. In fact, we’ve already booked a return visit."

"Beautiful cottage which is exceptionally well equipped. Very peaceful setting in a very small hamlet of about 12 properties. Nearest shop is 2.5 miles away in Marfen although was closed while we were there. Don’t expect food shops on your doorstep so plan for at least your 1st evening and breakfast. Next nearest was Corbridge which has little Co-op but some lovely little shops too. For major food shopping Hexham is great with big Tesco, plus Aldi and Waitrose. Lots of other lovely shops too. Beautiful countryside all around cottage with amazing walking to be done. Lovely welcome from owners Michelle and Rob with unexpected fresh baked loaf, lovely jam and few other extras. Please be mindful that satnav May try to send you down tracks and dead ends. Mine is only 2 years old and didn’t recognise the dead ends and kept trying to send me down them. Was approx 3.5 mile journey down single track which is undulating with a few passing points. Was lovely but suspect treacherous in winter. We had fun when the farmer didn’t lock the gate properly one time and 4 cows and a bull escaped and led us down the last of the track down to the A road where they kindly stopped the traffic for us! There are other routes once you find your way around but if relying on satnav may be an issue for some. Cottage is by far the nicest we have stayed in by far and would highly recommend and would be happy to return."

"This is a stunning holiday home. Lots of attention to detail to make you feel very welcome. Incredibly clean throughout. The massive bath is awesome (take lots of bubble bath!) and the kitchen is vey well equipped. The downstairs shower is also really good. There is a really great play park 3 minutes walk round the corner. The outside area is perfect for dogs and there is an great outhouse for doing laundry. The two pubs have friendly locals. A large supermarket is 5 mins drive away in the lovely village of Sedgefield. Durham is about a 20 minutes drive away and well worth visiting. The Cross keys pub up the road offers a great menu and a pool table. Plenty of room for parking in the village if you have more than one car. To be honest there is nothing negative to say about this home. We have stayed in many cottages over the years and this is definitely the best."

"What a beautiful location! The granary is on a hill on a private road (and public footpath), next to the farm of the owner. It has a very practical lay out: large open kitchen with breakfast bar and open plan sitting room with dining table. Two large bedrooms and two bathrooms. A walled and decked garden and ample parking space.I really can't fault this holiday cottage but on two things. One very minor, so negligible and the other one has to do with personal likings so to somebody else wouldn't recognise my comment. The 'big' one: the sofa's weren't comfortable (too soft for our liking and may be sagged) and the second minor one: if you want to be eco-friendly you have to go the outside bins. The one in the cottage is to small and there is just one bin in the kitchen."

"S88932 was a real find. For our first weekend we had four generations here and the house accomodated us easily! The bedroom set up was ideal and there was plenty of parking for our 2 - 3 cars.It was in a lovely little village but had close access to larger villages and supermarkets making it an ideal base for our week's stay. The network of roads also made it very easy for us to get out much further afield to explore the area in general. The house itself had a well equipped kitchen and a separate laundry. The outside area was lovely to sit in. The owners were also great and very easy to talk to. All in all we had a fantastic time here and would love to come back should we ever get the opportunity."
