Within walking distance, you'll arrive at an array of village amenities, including The Whitby Crab, Cod & Lobster, and The Endeavour as dine-out options, along with a convenience store. On your travels you'll also fine Kettleness beach, perfect for lounging upon on sunny days, Captain Cook & Staithes Heritage Centre, showcasing a diverse collection of artefacts and memorabilia, and Mulgrave Castle, and its ancient ruins, ideal for touring if you’re interested in history or architecture. Heading to the bustling town of Whitby, embark on a hike across the Cinder Track, climb the 199 Steps, offering panoramic views across Whitby coastline, or head to Whitby Abbey, a grand landmark, attracting visitors for over 1,500 years. Venturing West, reach Saltburn-by-the-Sea, also home to popular attractions, including the sandy shores of Saltburn Beach, or perhaps aboard the cliff tramway, starting from the shoreline and travelling upward, offering breath-taking vistas of the county, whilst Saltburn Gill Nature Reserve is recommended for its secluded and nature-filled setting, ideal for outdoor enthusiasts. A delight for artists, Staithes is a quaint, peaceful seaside town with cobblestone streets and narrow alleyways. A secluded sandy beach is nestled among the rocky shoreline, and the town's charming homes and cottages are grouped around the historic harbour and bordered by high, jagged cliffs on three sides. The community can claim ties to Captain Cook, who served as an apprentice to a draper close to the harbour. Today, Staithes, which boasts a decent selection of pubs, shops, and tea rooms, is a must-see for anyone travelling to the Yorkshire Coast. There is still a rnli lifeboat station in Staithes, along with a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) that land fish, crab, and lobster. Boat trips are also offered for fishing, birdwatching, and even whale watching. Old Jack's Boat, a well-liked BBC children's television programme, is also filmed there.
