What our customers say about their holidays

    • Kevin - Verified booking

I booked this as a 60th Birthday week away for my partner.

I looked at many cottages in this area. This one looked exactly what I was after. My grievance is that in the description given you were quite discrete about the pub being next door. Also as describing the outside area as a garden. To be honest the issue with the pub wasn't as bad as I'd expected as it was only open from 6pm - 9pm It did however make our view during this time basically rows of cars. The outside garden, was basically not much bigger than a patio. It wasn't great for us having the dog with us. There were no great views fron the cottage whilst downstairs. The only rolling countryside view was whilst standing at the toilet and looking out the window. So when we were sat out in the garden, we saw parked cars. On another note. It isn't that great an area for walking dogs. The impression I get is the local farmers don't want this and most of the public footpaths are hidden and the markers are not there. On the plus point the cottage is lovely and is well equipped. ( though the TV needs looking at. No terrestrial tv at all) I think you need to mention that it's next door to the pub, rather than declaring the distance. I think that was a bit sneaky. We have used Sykes before and found the previous chalet excellent. I shall look using you again, but will check with Google earth and check the listing a lot more throughly in future.

Picture perfect cottage in a beautiful village.

It was the perfect place to stay to see in the New Year. The cottage is cosy and charming but with all the mod cons, like excellent mattress on the beds, smart t.v (to keep our boys entertained!) and a good power shower! The kitchen is fully equipped as well. We loved having a real fire and it provided enough heat. The welcome pack when we arrived was a really lovely touch and the boys enjoyed the sweets (and we enjoyed the Prosecco!). Ugthorpe is a charming village and a great base to explore that part of the world. There is a pub right next door but we didn’t hear it at all, unfortunately It was closed one of the nights we were there or we would have gone. We will definitely come back here.

We went to chill for a few days the directions were perfect. The cottage itself was great everything you needed was there. Was most amazing was all the finishing touches. A little hamper made up of goodies. A lovely scone and jam to have with a lovely cup of tea and fresh milk and a lovely bottle of prosecco cooling in the fridge. We took our dog and everything was there including towels to use and some snacks for him. The area outside the cottage was brilliant to let our dog explore even a torch was provided to use at night time. All in all a lovely place and the hosts were lovely and friendly it was a pleasure to use their cottage and would use it again with big recommendations thank you.

This is a lovely cottage set in what we think is the perfect spot for exploring the north york moors and coast.

The cottage itself is roomy and well appointed. Michael the owner contacted a number of times to check that everything was good with our stay. There is a lovely communal garden at the back, which is a sunny spot. We were the only people using it. It was fun to watch the birds. Had it been warmer I am sure we might have eaten dinner at the outdoor table. There is a pub next door but one- which is busy. But fear not we had no disturbance what so ever. For those who want to walk from the cottage, if you get the OS map out you will be able to plot easy walks to the coast, which is what we did. Would definately stay again.

A lovely cottage, that is so quiet despite a pub next door!

We never heard cars or patrons coming or going. The cottage was immaculately clean and had everything to ensure a warm and pleasant stay. Michael discreetly kept in touch to ensure everything was ok- it was perfect! Amazing wildlife a woodpecker out the back every morning and we saw Hares in the field and a Barn Owl. Easy access to all East Coast. Gave us chance to enjoy the Ghost Walk in Whitby from the Whale arches, usually we have headed home by then. And lovely coastal drive to Sandsend, Runswick Bay, Staithes without being on main tourist route.
