What our customers are saying about our Family Cottages In The Lake District To Rent.

"Generally good holiday property for a large party, good space, furnishings and equipment.Too close to a noisy busy road, which meant sitting outside in the small garden area was not pleasant, so we moved the garden furniture to the front, which worked, although it was not private from other residents at The Terrace. It was also noisy during the night and particularly in the morning, for people who were sleeping on that side of the house.Major irritation was the cleaning team! When some of our party arrived early and wanted to park at the property, they were told that the parking spaces wouldn't be available until 4pm and that their cars would be in the way. This might be acceptable, if it wasn't for the fact that on the day of departure, when our departure time was 10am, some of the cleaning/maintenance team arrived before 9am. One parked his van right in front of the cottage, in a space we had intended to use for loading one of our vehicles. He then sat in the van and stared into the front door watching as we all moved around loading our vehicles. Eventually he sat at the table outside the front, and other cleaning people arrived early also. It felt like vultures were swirling overhead waiting for us to go, and definitely spoiled the last hour of our visit. When we were saying goodbye to other family members at 10am, people who we wouldn't see for another year, they were already in the house and stripping the beds."

"Stayed in Threlkheld before so I knew what to expect. There are 2 pubs. The horse and farrier do excellent food and you can take your dogs in. But it’s very popular so you need to call in advance. The accommodation is very basic, but it has everything you need for your stay. There was even complimentary tea, coffee and milk. Along with washing up liquid etc... the owners kindly let us take a second dog but you need to enquire before you book. Our dogs are fairly small so would be different if you had large dogs. The building itself is very old and the floors and walls are uneven. This added to the overall experience and even though on the main through road it was very quiet. My only niggle was that the windows are old and not very draft proof. This was fairly uncomfortable sitting in the living room. We counter acted this by having the log fire on. There are fantastic views of Blencathra from the landing window and some good walks from Threlkeld. Overall, I’d be happy to return here as it is a great base to explore the lakes - but ideally, you do need a car as there are no shops. Keswick being the closest approximately 4 miles away."

"I felt the apartment was in an excellent location, however the question of would i stay there again a difficult one to answer as the bed in the main bedroom was the most uncomfortable bed i have ever slept in it was like sleeping on the the floor. So had quite a few uncomfortable disrupted nights sleep until i moved into the back room the problem there was i had to move into a single bed. The linen needs replacing and i was glad i took my own towels. When we arrived a bucket was under the sink in the back bathroom as the tap was dripping from the back, however this was sorted out very quickly and we would like to thank maintenance for the response.Apart from the above we did enjoy our stay but fell some love and attention to the apartment would not go amiss."

"Absolutely fantastic house. Spotlessly clean, super modern and renovated to a really high standard. Very cosy (we only needed the heating on downstairs and the whole house stayed warm). Right in the centre of Ambleside but not aware of noise from traffic either during the day or at night. Bathrooms were especially lovely. Car park right across the street and permits provided. Front entrance up steps but back entrance up a slope so could get the pram in and out easily. Loads of equipment provided for cooking. Only tiny downside was no downstairs loo (but that’s just because we are used to one and a bit lazy!) and internet was a little bit intermittent. Otherwise no faults at all."

"1 Gillbanks Cottages suited my purposes exceptionally well. It is exceptionally well furnished and equipped and extremely comfortable, even in one of the coldest weeks of the winter. The owners have gone out of their way in their detailed and helpful instructions to make sure that visitors feel able to use the cottage as their own during their stay. If there is a complaint, which is more of a need to know rather than a complaint, there was no welcome pack or any of the other things such as hand soap, condiments, tea and coffee in the house. Toilet rolls, a dishcloth and scourer and washing up liquid was provided, but visitors need to take everything else."
