What our customers say about their holidays

    • Susan - Verified booking

This was our second holiday in the last 12 months at Little Bower.

We love it. The cottage is very comfortable, clean and cosy. It is ideal for a retired active couple such as ourselves. It is perfectly situated being just off the main street of Hawes and next to all facilities such as groceries etc. This is especially important to us as we do not own a car and travel to Hawes by train and then the excellent Little White Bus service fetching and taking us to the remote Garsdale train station at the start and end of our holiday. We were very impressed by how friendly, helpful and efficient the cottage owner's daughter was in sorting a problem with the water heating after our arrival. It was fixed by sorting the timer promptly the very next morning by their appointed tradesman. This was at no inconvenience to ourselves as, by arrangement the tradesman could access the cottage without us needing to be there. This was very helpful to us as we had planned to take the early bus to Leyburn for a day out and enjoyed a lovely day there. We have been holidaying at Hawes for over 30 years and for most of that time we came with our touring caravan and our 2 boys and stayed at the Brown Moor site. They are now in their late 30s and have their own families and we no longer have a caravan. We intend to come back twice each year and look forward to spending these breaks at the Little Bower.

Loved it. I don’t think we realised quite how remote it was and we arrived when the river had completely burst its banks and we couldn’t make out the road from the grass so that was quite an arrival! But absolutely beautiful place and very well equipped cottage. The only feedback I’d give is that it took about 10 hours for the storage heaters to start giving off any heat (I understand this is because of the tariff but it could be made clearer in the guest book I think) and the hot water wasn’t hot until the next morning. This might not matter too much to most people but we had awful weather (flooding then freezing) with a 9 month old baby so this was quite disconcerting to start with. Appreciated the blankets and hot water bottles but maybe just a bit more literature on how the storage heaters and immersion boiler works as I don’t think that’s necessarily obvious to a lot of people.

I was given information from Sykes on contacting the owner for the key code number for our stay.

The day before we contacted via the number only to find that the person on the end of the phone was in CYPRUS I was charged 65p as this was made outside my plan and I was unaware. She rang her mother to sort it out. Needless to say I am not happy. Please can things like this be ironed out. The window in the bedroom was twisted and could not close properly so we had a towel stuffed to stop the draft. There was no heating in that room. I have been advised that this has been addressed but not sure if anyone checks. Please could this be passed onto the owners of the Little Bower and make sure they are NOT OUT OF THE COUNTRY when visitors have been given this contact. It certainly taints my use of Sykes as a means of booking a cottage.

Tiplady is a comfortable and cosy cottage in the centre a delightful village in a beautiful part of Yorkshire and we really enjoyed our week there.

It is very welcoming, clean and well-eqipped with everything you might need - though we would have appreciated an ice tray for the G&Ts and fluffier pillows, and we think towel rails in the bedrooms would be useful as there is little space in the bathroom. The shower and WiFi were occasionally temperamental and there is little WiFi coverage in the dining area. The parking space was difficult to manoeuvre into, but there were plenty of parking spaces very close by. We really appreciated the box of walk books and local information and we really enjoyed playing the Pub Quiz game! Thank you - we would definitely recommend this cottage to others and return to it ourselves.

Pheasant Cottage is lovely, hence our 2nd visit!

. We love it's remote location with all the walks from the doorstep, the wildlife (had 2 grouse in the garden!) and the night skies are amazing. Although remote, it's not far down to Reeth or Richmond for provisions and you can easily get around the Dales by car to visit other locations. We did a lovely circular walk from Keld to Muker. We last visited in May so this was the first time we had used the coal fire. It made the cottage lovely and warm and so cozy on a dark night. We cooked each night in the kitchen which is well equipped. Would recommend to anyone wanting a cozy cottage to get away from the stress of everyday life.
