What our customers say about their holidays

    • Andrea - Verified booking

Great location for Coast to Coast walk.

However property description requires amendment. Conservatory is actually a porch. Low ceilings and beams make the house uncomfortable for anyone above 5 ft 7 - my husband is 6 ft and spent entire week continually bending. Entrance to bedrooms 2 and 3 only 5 ft clearance. En-suite completely unventilated. No fan operating plus saniflo system on toilet made loud grinding noise on each flush, also drain aroma made it unpleasant to use. King Mattress requires replacement as unable to support two adults. Kitchen very dated and in poor condition aside from fridge freezer. Lounge - unable to use as settees gave off smoke aroma so used the only two comfortable chairs in the house in the kitchen diner. We are on holiday and not there to carry out property inspections and thus refuse to inform owners whilst there. We appreciate the rental cost for the property is lower than elsewhere in borrowdale but there must be minimum standards and in our view Castle Lodge does not meet them.

A beautiful location, in a traditional, beamed cottage.

The cottage is old fashioned and quirky, but has everything you need, with stunning views and a log fire! We felt right at home and relaxed! Board games and dvd player along with a GameCube are provided to keep the kids amused. Good WiFi kept us connected, as there is no phone signal in the valley. There is a washing machine and drier in an outhouse. The conservatory and small garden are peaceful and a great place for soaking in the Borrowdale views. A short walk to the Riverside where we saw lots of local wildlife. Short walk to lovely teashop and local pubs. Plenty of valley or hill walks accessible from the door. We will definitely be back!

      Such a lovely cottage.

So warm and comfortable. Loved the quirkiness. As soon as we waled through the door we felt that the cottage wrapped itself around us and gave us a big hug. You need to bear in mind that elements of it date back to the 1600’s so not everything worked as you expected it to, but you get used to it. We loved the location of the cottage with so many walks from the door and close proximity to the river so the dogs never had muddy paws. So much through given to our 4 legged friends with towels, dog bowls, covers for settee so they also felt at home. Will be back for certain.

Lovely stay in fabulous cottage, the pictures don’t do it justice.

Very well equipped, if you’ve forgotten something it’s probably already there. Garden is a sun trap however we did visit during a heatwave as I don’t think ive ever been to the lakes and it not rain. Was nice watching the birds after a long day of walking. Nice complimentary pack of biscuits and pint of milk on arrival and phone call from Joanne (owner) with some useful info on local walks and plunge pool. Overall we all had a great time.

We really enjoyed our stay here.

It is slightly quirky being a very old cottage that has been extended at some point, but we loved it for that. It is full of character, very homely and comfy. The location is brilliant. It is really quiet so you feel surrounded by nature. The perfect spot for exploring Borrowdale on foot or by bus, we only used the car to do food shopping in Keswick. The owner is really friendly and welcoming. Thank you for an incredibly relaxing 2 weeks!
