This is a cosy cottage with homey feel, full of charm, character and original features, sleeping up to four people and two dogs. Just up the road from the legendary George Fisher outdoor equipment shop, the cottage is perfectly located for enjoying all the Keswick amenities whilst being tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre, with the rarity of having its own private parking and lockable shed/bike storage.
A two-minute walk from the cottage is Keswick town centre. Keswick is a jewel in the northern Lake District's crown situated on the shores of the incredibly picturesque Derwentwater. It's a vibrant market town with a wonderful atmosphere where you can indulge your wild side with any number of adventurous outdoor activities or pamper your taste buds with a huge range of eateries offering great local food and Cumbrian real ales. The walking and cycling on offer here is second to none with paths and tracks to suit those in search of gentle picturesque strolls or Lake District giants such as Skiddaw to climb if you're feeling more energetic.
Derwent Water, Castle Crag and Walla Crag are all within walking distance of the property. You can catch a bus (or walk) into the Borrowdale Valley just by turning right out of the front door. The renowned Theatre by the Lake has a varied programme throughout the year and the Alhambra Cinema shows mainstream and alternative cinema throughout the week.
The delightful little refurbished cottage is situated at the end of a terrace of similarly charming houses on The Plosh, a moderately quiet road leading from Keswick into the Borrowdale Valley.
The cottage is accessed from the side via a stable door (useful for containing the dog in the summer), which leads directly into a small but well-planned kitchen, in which an electric oven and ceramic hob, mircowave, under-counter fridge/freezer and washing machine are situated. The kitchen looks out onto the enclosed yard with seating for four people and an ideal place to relax after a long day on the fells. A lockable cupboard is located just around the corner where muddy boots and walking gear can be stored
The kitchen leads into the small and cosy dining and living area, which features a welcoming open fireplace. A corner settee seats three to four people and there is a comfy armchair from which to view the FreeSat TV, which also has a built in DVD player. The owner has thoughtfully provided some DVDs, books and board games should you require additional evening entertainment. A shower room with basin and WC are also to be found on the ground floor.
In addition to the original oak beams, the spiral staircase is one of many characteristic features of this lovely cottage. It may not be suitable for young children or adults who struggle with their balance, but it certainly turns the ascent onto the next floor into a bit of a mini adventure...! Fear not night time stumblings to the bathroom, however, as there is another shower room with basin and WC situated on the first floor. There is also an external staircase to the first floor if preferred.*
In keeping with the rest of the cottage, the bedrooms are bijoux, full of character and have lovely soft furnishings. The double bedroom contains a double bed and a double wardrobe; the two singles in the twin room can be pushed together and made into a king-size bed upon request. It also includes a chest of drawers and a small hanging rail with wooden hangers.
Outside is a small enclosed yard with seating for four people and easily accessible private parking for one car. Whilst enclosed, we can't guarantee that this will be 'escape-proof' for the more determined and agile dogs but two well behaved dogs are permitted.
* The spiral staircase may not be to everyone's liking, but there is a brick staircase outside (just two steps from the side door) that leads from the yard to the double bedroom on the first floor. It is quite an unusual arrangement, but may be appreciated by those for whom the spiral staircase doesn't appeal.
