What our customers are saying about our Dog Friendly Cottages In The Lake District To Rent.

DonianGuru - verified booking

"If you want to stay and visit Keswick but don't want to be in town, then this accommodation is in a great location being about 5-7 minutes drive away in a rural very quiet village location, in fact it was ideal for the two of us and our two dogs. Apart from the Pottery 30 seconds away, which serves nice tea/coffee and cakes, there is nothing else there but we found it great to be able to drive into Keswick which has an abundance of shops and restaurants. You can walk steeply uphill on footpaths from the door into Whinlatter Forest, taking about 20-30 minutes to get to the main visitor centre area. The actual dormer bungalow accommodation is fine; it has a good size driveway and a very small garden with patio, the garden has no lawn so is mainly shrubs. Whilst we were able to keep our dogs within the fenced garden area it is not gated so be careful. Its very easy to criticise small aspects of the accommodation as others in the Visitor Book have done so over many years and in isolation not major problems, but are helpful suggestions to improve, like needing a mirror in the en-suite, somewhere to hang coats in the hall, a clothes horse, replacement dishwasher cutlery basket, a floor mop etc, none of these had actually been done which is a pity. It had good Wi-Fi connection and the rooms are fairly large. There are great views of the fells particularly from the upstairs rooms. It was nice to have both a downstairs and upstairs lounge with TV in both. There was plenty of china and cutlery, cooking utensils etc. The owners phoned us on arrival and were extremely keen to make sure we were happy with the accommodation; a nice touch. The décor was fine; in places it needs a little TLC and smartening up. It is not luxury accommodation neither is it poor. The showers again were fine, they are electric powered so the flow rate is always going to be limited compared with a pumped or mains pressure shower. If you are tall, then the upstairs bedroom may be an issue in places. The bed was very comfortable. For us the location and views were the main USP, the fact that it needed a little TLC in places was not off-putting. Yes we'll return if they'll have us."

"I would like to start on a positive. The cottage is quite spacious for a family in the summer. Our holiday was in March and the heating in the cottage was not adequate just old style storage heater. They may have heated up the cottage all day when we weren’t there but where depleted by the time we got home in the evening. There was what I believed to be a electric fire and no way it seemed to get it to work. After switching on the power and trying to use the remote control and searching for ages to see if there was any on off switches I gave up on trying to get it to work. When we first entered the reception I was gobsmacked to be asked for my card to verify the booking which was paid for in full. I can understand there maybe a need to check that I am who I say I am but for all the details of my card including the three digit number on the back to be written down is wrong. My next complaint is Wi-Fi or sorry lack of Wi-Fi. It clearly states that there is Wi-Fi but there was none in the cottage which made it very difficult to plan our weeks walking holiday. It said in the leaflet left in the cottage there was Wi-Fi down in the communal area but that’s not what you are led to believe in a blurb on the Sykes website. To rub salt in our wounds, when we left with a 300 mile journey home and the threat of snow and severe well conditions we waited after 8 o’clock to when we believe the reception would be open to drop off the keys. At nearly 8:30, I believe the time was the reception door was locked and it was already snowing and blowing a gale. I checked through a window and saw the girl who booked in was on the telephone as she gestured to me that she was going to continue to finish her phone call. After a few minutes I got the totally fed up of standing in the freezing cold and the snow and with the fear that we may not be able to get home I hung the keys on the door handle and left, never to return to this campsite. I would like to stay here but I never ever give reviews unless they are positive and richly deserved. On this occasion as you emailed me for a review I have given you one"

"Oh, this cottage is all I ever imagined a Lakeland retreat should be! Situated in an elevated, scenic position, enveloped by the beauty of the surrounding fells, this cottage is chocolate box Lakeland. I felt I was living a little piece of Lakeland history. Even with the wind and rain, it still felt cosy and authentic. I could just sense, and perhaps catch a tiny glimpse of what life would have been like in bygone days on a solitary Lakeland farm. One early morning, I stepped out of the front door, which was to be ours for a few days, and there was the most stunning, captivating view. I could not believe it was real. I wanted to savour it, drink it in, and keep it forever. It was perfect peace. Just me, and the fells before me. I could really feel a personal empathy with the place. The uninterrupted quietness was therapeutic, invigorating and a tonic. If I could move in, I would! If you want to experience the true essence of Lakeland, then this is it! This cottage is set apart on its own, being detached, so it is rather like having your own farm for a few days! We could sometimes see the sheep gathering to be fed from the cottage window. There are walks in all directions from the front door and we did every one of them. If you are a keen walker, there is no need to use the car if you are well organised. We took ready/pre-cooked meals with us and a whole heap of food so we did not need to go to a shop. I really did not want this holiday to end. I have dreamed of living in a Lakeland farmhouse ever since. Perhaps one day my dream will come true........."
