"We holiday in cottages at least 4 times a year and have done for the last 20 years. This cottage was the worst by far that we have ever used. The whole property is in desperate need of attention. Every item in the place was dirty we had to clean things before we used them, the microwave, the kettle the door handles, the stair banister, the TV and controls, the CD player the list is endless, all were dirty with weeks of grim and filthy. The sofas were covered in dog hair, the shower was disgusting and didn’t work properly, the bathroom was... well we didn’t even use it. The fridge was disgusting, the freezer was frozen up.The oven works when it feels like it. The smell from the dishwasher was unbearable so we didn’t use it. The parking is awkward the roadside parking would only be suitable for a small car. The garden while having a nice view was mostly just overgrown, the lawn had been cut. We had to go and buy a relaxer chair as the chairs provided are threadbare. The patio and steps are dangerous and uneven not recommended for children or the elderly. Our house was have some work done otherwise we would have returned home. The final straw was our old dog picking up a flea infestation,we complained, cottages.com were very good about our complaints but couldn’t offer other accommodation as our dog would have transferred fleas to the next property. We did get a price reduction from the owner which didn’t even cover the vets bill.If you are looking for a holiday with difference this cottage is for you, if your after a relaxing strees free break well....To finish on a bright note. The bed was comfy."

"We are a family of two adults, a teenager and a toddler. The Bothy was a perfect getaway for us all. It's a ten-minute drive from the M6 and about 20 minutes to Penrith. We visited Windermere which took a little over an hour, though there was snow so we were driving with caution. The accommodation is lovely and the photos on the website really don't do it justice. The zip-wire in the garden kept us all entertained and we enjoyed walking around to see the pond with the swans. The crazy golf course was covered in snow when we were there but it looked like it would have been fun for the family. The kitchen is one of the most well-stocked rental property kitchens we'd ever seen - there were more appliances than we have in our own home! The house was warm, despite the weather and there were plenty of books and board games to keep us occupied in the evenings. There are two bathrooms, though no bath. The owners are lovely and strike the perfect balance between being welcoming hosts and leaving you to have your own space. We cannot recommend The Bothy highly enough and very much hope to go back again."

"We had a lovely new year at Wild Goose Cottage. 3 out of the 4 bedrooms are plenty large enough for travel cots and the beds were comfortable. The best area is the kitchen diner, very modern and plenty of room for 8 adults and 3 babies at the table. there's plenty of crockery, pots and pans and utensils. A very well stocked kitchen however only one oven shelf made it very difficult to cook for everyone so the owners could perhaps invest in another shelf to make this a lot easier for large groups to cook meals to enjoy at the cottage. It was great to have the utility area and downstairs toilet plus extra shower. The area was lovely. Very quiet, few nice pubs, cafes and shops. The living room was cosy and nice garden and balconies for use in better weather. The sofas are probably past their shelf life but other than that a nice space. There's a small unloading area outside the cottage but then you have to park your car in the town free car park. Not a major issue unless everyone arrives at once but something to mention as it's not on the spec. All in all we had a lovely time thank you."

"Cottage on a farm with another cottage next-door and owner in farm-house on site. The cottage is in the middle of nowhere and it snowed when we went in February. Fantastic views of night-sky from garden. It was modern inside, spotlessly clean, comfortable sofas, well equipped with games for kids. Some thoughtful extras - wine, sweets. Easy to use, cosy feeling optimist fire. Our main problem was that the biomass heating came on in the night in the bedroom. It was vibrating and making a loud low hum and could not be turned off, so we couldn't sleep on the first night. It was a mistake that was sorted out quickly the next day when we spoke to the owner's son. We had chosen the property from the description/photos which said there was a large wooden play area just outside the cottage. The children were looking forward to this, but unfortunately it had recently been removed to make room for the garden for the larger property next door. It should have been changed on the description but it had not been."

"The apartment was disappointing. It was the only place I have ever stayed in my 77 years in which the gas boiler was located in the bedroom, with all the risks of carbon monoxide poisoning. There was no carbon monoxide alarm. In addition, the noise of the boiler kept us awake at night. The furniture was of poor quality and was uncomfortable. There was no information/brochures about the local area; and no books of any type. It was poorly equipped. These days one expects a washing machine and dishwasher as basic equipment; neither was provided. To be charged over £450 -00 for an off peak week in this flat October, which was not a half term holiday, was simply unjustified. To end on a positive note: The owner , Tony, who lives upstairs from the flat, is a helpful and decent person. ."
