Guests appreciate the secure courtyard, scenic walks directly from the property, and the proximity to local attractions. While compact, the modern amenities and idyllic setting make it a favoured choice for short stays.

Guests consistently mention that the cottage is spotlessly clean, indicating high standards of cleanliness throughout the property.

The location is highly regarded for its tranquillity and proximity to walking routes and local pubs, making it an ideal base for exploring the Southern Lakes.

The cottage is often described as cosy and perfect for short stays. However, some guests find the seating uncomfortable and the space a bit limiting for longer visits.

About this property

Surrounded by gorgeous countryside with nearby woodland walk, this perfect hideaway has been beautifully planned. Enjoying a secluded location within two acres of grounds, there are garden areas and patios with outdoor furniture, perfect for a spot of al-fresco dining. One dog is welcome to come along and join in the fun.

Parking in their private space, guests will reach the suite through an enclosed seating area. Once inside the stunning kitchen with dining table guests will appreciate the luxury fittings and attention to detail. The kitchen is extremely well equipped with everything a couple could wish for, and a comfortable seating area with wall-mounted TV completes the living space. There is also a separate bedroom with superbly comfortable bed, and a gorgeous shower room to enjoy.

Abbots Reading Suite is surrounded by scenic walks enjoyed by both guests and the local wildlife. It is not uncommon to come across deer while taking a morning stroll. Lakeside itself is home to the famous Lakes Aquarium and Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway. Windermere Lake Cruises depart regularly from the pier, and the views across the lake are breath-taking.

Taking the road towards Hawkshead, guests will find themselves in the heart of the countryside that inspired Beatrix Potter to write her famous children’s books and a visit to her former home at Hill Top is a must. Hawkshead itself is a lovely place to explore, with cobbled streets, tiny grammar school and stunning church.

Set on the southern shores of Lake Windermere, the small, sleepy hamlet of Lakeside offers a peaceful getaway location, hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the Lake District’s popular attractions, but still within easy reach of them. Whether you decide to discover the area in the car, by foot, bike, boat or steam, there’s plenty to see nearby to keep the whole family content. The ferry dock offers the chance to travel by boat to Waterhead or Bowness, or take a shorter trip to the National Trust’s Fell Foot Park, across the water, which offers pretty grounds set alongside the very tip of the lake, providing plenty of places for picnics, paddling, games and gentle strolls on sunny afternoons. Situated alongside the Lakeside Station is the long-standing Lakeside and Haverwaithe Railway, home to Britain’s oldest standard gauge steam engine, on which you can travel back in time along this well-loved Heritage line, and where little ones will delight in meeting Thomas and his friends. Visit the Lakes Aquarium to uncover the often-secretive world of life below water, where you’ll chance upon hundreds of captivating creatures that feature in the surrounding rivers, lakes and sea. There are wonderful, well-signed walks to be enjoyed in the immediate area, including the 5-mile route to Finsthwaite’s High Dam, which trails from Lakeside through pleasant woodlands and meadows. Lakeside offers an exclusive holiday location with all of the Lake District’s delights at your fingertips.

The owner was very helpful and friendly. The cottage is in a very quiet spot but still close enough to everything you need. We would agree with other reviews that the chairs in the lounge area are very uncomfortable and the cottage was very small - some of the photos were taken from a very generous angle. This means that we probably wouldn't book a longer stay in this particular cottage but we would definitely try one of the others on the same site. It was very dog friendly with an enclosed yard and a dog exercise area nearby. We also definitely recommend the Anglers Arms in Haverthwaite which was also very dog friendly and served excellent food. If like us you just need a small place to stay for a weekend this is perfect.

The only fault we had was we would of preferred a 2 sester couch instead of the chairs. The dog enjoyed the little woodland walk and garden. We would certainly stay again
