Wonderful cottage in a lovely location, hope to be back soon!
I booked Garth End for a girls week away with friends & dogs to celebrate my birthday & I wasn't disappointed, it is one of the nicest properties I've stayed in by a long mile!!! Everything was beautifully presented, furniture & facilities were quality & it was immaculately clean. There was everything we needed for our stay ... and more!! We always take loads of dog blankets, but there was a plentiful supply, plus lovely human blankets too!! The information folder has to be one of the best thought out & really helpful & the welcome gifts were beautiful & so thoughtful, thank you Lisa! Although we were lucky with the weather, having the door leading into the utility meant it was easy to get rid of coats, boots & wipe paws. The kitchen was well equipped, no shortage of crockery, glasses, cutlery or pans. I forgot tea & coffee but there was a plentiful supply, so we didn't miss out on our morning cuppa & it was nice having the choice of eating round the island or at the dining table. Good TV, audio & wifi provision with excellent option of streaming services. The flexibility of bedroom set up meant everyone had their own bed & the bathrooms were lovely with good showers & plenty of hot water. The garden was fully enclosed, private & dog friendly ... the snowdrops were beautiful and it was lovely to see the daffs coming out. The patio furniture wasn't out (being winter) but will be a lovely area to sit out in warmer weather! Didn't get chance to try the pub as opening times were limited due to the time of year, but the menu looked really nice & everyone we met from the village had time to stop & have a chat, it was nice to witness the genuine sense of community! Having the park with its kids playground, bmx bike track and field where you can give the dogs a run was a definite bonus. Thank you Lisa for a wonderful birthday celebration in a beautiful property.

We enjoyed our time at Wykefield.
We think it's important to highlight that some pictures of the outside of the property on the website are misleading. You see the whole house structure, but half of the building is the "Esk Wyke Country House Hotel". The windows facing out the downstairs 'nook', the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom all overlook the hotel car park. People are coming and going from there at all hours. You should be aware of that prior to booking. The main attraction of the house is the extension with the elongated dining room and kitchen which is lovely. The extra fridge-freezer in the garage is not mentioned in the description and would have been really useful to have known about when planning food to take. The tennis table in the garage is not very nice and bendy, so wasn't useable. The beds were comfortable. Despite the water being non-mains supplied, the pressure was great and reliable. The appliances all worked well and we liked the utilities. There's lots of board games, DVDs, maps, interesting books and a well-equipped kitchen. As pleasant, well equipped and thought out as the house is, we feel it's expensive for what you get. There's no proper games room or other facilities that for £2,500/week you should be getting at this range. This is a nice house, and a really great stay, but not at this cost. Especially with the hotel at peak season next door, with their suite windows overlooking the garden you're relaxing in. It's a well-placed location with several walks, towns and facilities nearby. It's of note that Beatrix Potter stayed in this house (prior to it being half hotel) and decided she wanted to live in the Lakes because of it! Esthwaite Water, which the garden overlooks, is privately owned and inaccessible so it's for view only. Overall, this is a good stay but pricey for what you get.

We really loved our stay here and appreciate in particular all of the luxury, homely touches.
The location was so good that it was practically shown in the World of Beatrix Potter museum (well the view was). Everything felt thought of, and made our stay just perfect. We have stayed in a lot of Airbnbs and Sykes Cottages but this was our favourite so far and would love to return. Unfortunately we parked in the neighbour's space (it seemed empty and unkept so assumed it was available) next to our garden, if you could maybe be a bit more explicit on where we can park that would be great - as he seemed fine with us pulling up alongside the garage in the courtyard instead. There is space for 2 cars by the front door but a bit trickier for a 3rd. We can't unfortunately return during the summer months as the garden is not suitable for children (the sheer drops are even more severe than I realised at booking). There's a park on your doorstep to take the kids out for a run around! Thanks again and hope to book again!

We had a wonderful few days in Wainwright Cottage.
It was the perfect base for exploring the surrounding area including climbing Scafell Pike. The cottage is cosy and clean and well maintained, only downside is that the single bed is very creaky and soft and I think would be more suited to a child than an adult. Also my son didn't really feel comfortable with leaving his car out on the road infront of the property as it is actually quite a busy road heading out to Wasdale head. However this was easily rectified by loading/offloading out front and then parking free of charge in the community car park in the village which was just a short walk away. Gosforth village is a lovely, quiet village with good local amenities and we did sample food delivered from the lion and the lamb pub which was very nice. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Wainwright cottage and would highly recommend.

Wow . What an absolute find!
Lisa has literally thought of everything. The cottage is stunning, immaculate and so well put together and stylish and garden is secure for dogs. The thought that has gone into making the dogs welcome too is so cute. Thereâs a basket with everything from treats to beds. The space is brilliant and everything is quality and everything works which I know should be normal but quite often isnât the case. The other bonus is that you are literally next door to a great pub with a lovely family running it . Itâs dog friendly and a great atmosphere. So in summary, you will not be disappointed. So good weâve booked again for January 2025 Thank you , we loved it The woods, The Walkers, Freya, Elsa and Holly (the spaniels)
