"The cottage owners are very welcoming and helpful & Catherine sorted us a local Turkey and vegetables for our Christmas stay. The cottage is listed as having central heating but there is only one radiator upstairs outside bed 2 and controlled by next door, the listings also state that the kitchen has an Aga cooker but it is in the lounge at the bottom of the stairs, cooking is very difficult when the work surfaces, water, fridge and everything else is in the kitchen 20 feet away, also the Aga has been preset at a low temperature and the thermostat disabled so you cannot achieve the correct cooking temperature of 230 in the top oven, this sets the correct temperatures for the hot plates and simmering oven, the top oven was at 150 and cooking anything took a long time. The cottage desperately needs a cooker in the kitchen. The stairs are extremely steep and the warning at the top recommends you come down backwards, upstairs the carpets are thread bare and open gripper bars are ready to rip into your feet in the night (be warned) the beds are comfortable but upstairs is very cold, the bathroom is large but the shower pressure is really poor, the taps are loose and the hot water is extremely hot, we had a bit of fun in bed with our two year old daughter counting cobwebs on the ceiling (torch required). The farm supplies wood for the log burner at a cost but unfortunately you dont get seasoned dry wood its wet fence posts that struggle to burn and the cottage is seperated from the main house with adjoining doors so conversation is clearly heard. We cut our stay short and went home a day early."

"Beautiful situation just below Wansfell. Amazing amount of wildlife came to the back garden after we filled the bird feeders woodpecker, nuthatch, bullfinch and Jay amongst the many visitors. Two beautiful grey squirrels came and fed regularly and two country rats? made there way every day to feed amongst the birds on the ground. They seemed to be quite happy on the ground with all the small birds. They seemed to be living outside the garden because we watched them disappear over the back. One day we were going out and opened the front door to see a doe gazing in at us then she just calmly walked away over the next garden. Hill up to bungalow was quite steep especially carrying shopping. Only downside was when we arrived the oven door was hanging off and we went into Windermere on Sunday but letting office was closed so had to go back the next day. they rectified the ovendoor very quickly, it was repaired when we returned to bungalow along with a pair of oven gloves which had been missing. Could have been cleaner. Weather was quite wet and it was nice to return to a warm bolthole."

"High Hurst is a very cosy cottage attached to the main farm house but with a delightful private garden which the dogs enjoyed as much as we did!Robin made every effort to explain all of the amenities of the cottage and she is a warm and friendly hostess which enhanced the holiday experience as we felt very welcome from the moment that we arrived.A guided walk around the farm with Robin meeting all of the animals was truly special and anyone who loves animals and farming would enjoy this. The cottage is immaculately clean and tidy and there are lovely views of the garden. The surrounding hills are spectacular in their solitude and remoteness - a dive or a walk across the hills is also recommended.Coniston is only 30 minutes drive away with a good selection of shops, pubs, the lake and beautiful walks."

"I loved staying at Beega Apartment - it's perfect for being in the centre of Bowness and so able to get to most of the Lake District (I used the buses). There is a bit of noise in the evening but I didn't find it disturbed me too much - I can imagine it would be more annoying if it was really warm and you wanted the windows opened. The noise was worst at weekends but even then it didn't stop me from sleeping. The apartment was very clean and the kitchen was well equipped. I enjoyed being able to use Freeview on both televisions as well. The heating was very effective when I did use it. I could have perhaps used a clothes horse to dry the clothes I washed while I was there but this is a very minor point. I would happily go back to Beega Apartment and would recommend to any solo traveller or couple."

"The property has a lovely, dog-secure garden. Although the kitchen is very small for 8 people, it was well equipped. The central heating on the whole was very effective. On the negative side, the property is not really big enough for 8 people. There is only 1double bed, the others being a mix of bunk and single beds. The downstairs bedroom has access to an integral garage and it is very cold, with a draught coming under the door. There are 2 additional heaters in this room to compensate but one was a floor fan heater which has been hung on the wall and you need to be sat under it to get any benefit. This type of fan can only be used for short periods. The other heater was a freestanding electric radiator. The location of the property is excellent, being only 6/7 minutes walk into town centre."
