Some guests noted traffic noise and suggested minor improvements, but overall experiences were very positive.

The cottage's location is appreciated for its convenience to the South Lakes and local amenities like pubs. However, some guests mentioned traffic noise and the proximity to the road, which slightly affected the overall experience.

The cottage is well-equipped with modern facilities, though some guests suggested additional kitchen utensils and mentioned a tiny bath and erratic shower. The presence of a wood burner and secure garden were positives, but the need for minor maintenance was noted.

Many guests were delighted by the thoughtful welcome packs, which included items such as wine, cakes, and dog treats. While these gestures were highly appreciated, it should be noted that such extras, while common, are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

This beautifully-presented, end-terrace cottage is located in the hamlet of Newton in Cartmel, three miles from Cartmel in the Lake District National Park. This wonderful cottage is set over three floors and from the top floor there are far-reaching views towards the Old Man of Coniston. From the cottage-style kitchen/diner, step next door into the spacious but cosy sitting room with a fireplace housing a multi-fuel stove and traditional beams. This is a delightful room to relax in after a day full of activities. Alternatively why not open the French door to the superb, elevated garden with a lawn, mature plants and a summerhouse with lighting? Sit in the garden and enjoy the privacy, bird song and excellent views to Newton Fell with family or friends. The hamlet has a dog friendly pub which was formerly a 17th century inn serving local ales and locally sourced food. Now the pub called Heft has been restored and accredited with a Michelin star. Within a 15 minute walking distance is the popular Yew Tree Barn, which has antiques for sale, a gallery, arts and crafts, an artisan fair, and you may wish to enjoy breakfast or afternoon tea at the on-site cafe. The pretty village of Cartmel is nearby, home to the smallest racecourse with race meets throughout the year, gastropubs and restaurants, including the Michelin star rated L’Enclume restaurant, along with a glorious 12th century priory. Newby Bridge is also on your doorstep where you can enjoy cruises to Bowness across the lake. The Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway is nearby, where you can travel by steam train 3.5 miles via Newby Bridge to Haverthwaite. Close to the southern tip of Lake Windermere, but also close to Morecambe Bay, this cottage is a perfect base for exploring the surrounding area.

The cottage was immaculate, very well equipped and the host left us a thoughtful welcome pack. The enclosed back garden is great if you have a dog and very private. Great communication from a friendly host; when we return to the Lake District we won’t look elsewhere!

We had an amazing short stay at this wonderful cottage 13th - 16th September. The welcome pack of cake & wine was lovely and we were surprised at the amount of logs that were left as a starter pack. Cottage was clean and warm with all amenities available We absolutely loved the summer house and garden and spent most of our time outdoors. Our pooch settled as soon as we arrived at the cottage which was a good indication that we also were going to enjoy our break. A doggie basket with toys, towels and water bowl was all set up in the kitchen. One of the most comfortable cottages we have stayed in.

Sofa could do with being replaced it is not comfortables and sagging in places. Also in the description of the cottage it states that there is a pub 4 minutes walk away, this is incorrect it is now a Michelin star restaurant. You must drive if you need to go to a shop, pub or restaurant.
