"Generally good holiday property for a large party, good space, furnishings and equipment.Too close to a noisy busy road, which meant sitting outside in the small garden area was not pleasant, so we moved the garden furniture to the front, which worked, although it was not private from other residents at The Terrace. It was also noisy during the night and particularly in the morning, for people who were sleeping on that side of the house.Major irritation was the cleaning team! When some of our party arrived early and wanted to park at the property, they were told that the parking spaces wouldn't be available until 4pm and that their cars would be in the way. This might be acceptable, if it wasn't for the fact that on the day of departure, when our departure time was 10am, some of the cleaning/maintenance team arrived before 9am. One parked his van right in front of the cottage, in a space we had intended to use for loading one of our vehicles. He then sat in the van and stared into the front door watching as we all moved around loading our vehicles. Eventually he sat at the table outside the front, and other cleaning people arrived early also. It felt like vultures were swirling overhead waiting for us to go, and definitely spoiled the last hour of our visit. When we were saying goodbye to other family members at 10am, people who we wouldn't see for another year, they were already in the house and stripping the beds."

"Stunning location with amazing views of the fells. Beautiful house, tastefully renovated and extremely comfortable. Good to have separate TV area and conservatory sitting room. Well equipped kitchen. Two fridges - very helpful. Good to have separate Cruick Barn with its own TV for teenage children! It’s expensive but a luxury experience. We’ve been coming here for the last few years and the fly problem has become significantly worse. We were swatting / could have swatted 50-60 flies a night and couldn’t put food down in the kitchen without covering it. We suggest the owners think more about potential permanent solutions, if that’s possible.Fire alarms went off for second year in a row but electrician arrived same day to sort. Dishwasher also broken when we arrived but thanks to very helpful housekeeper, repair man arrived a couple of days later."

"I would particularly like to praise the cleaners, who apparently had a difficult job the day we arrived, due to the poor state in which the previous occupants had left the house. This was borne out by the way they failed to remove their own recycling, or even to separate it from non-recyclable waste. Two thing occurred to us which would make for an even better stay; a floorplan of the building on the website would enable families to allocate rooms before arrival and a method of reporting faults, preferably before the end of the stay, to enable repairs to be carried out before the next occupants arrive. The overall concensus was that this was in the top three of our family holidays to date, and we would be happy to stay in Shepherds Villa again."

"There were 14 of us staying just after Easter, together with three dogs. The house and Barn were always warm, well equipped and it was convenient that all the bedrooms had their own facilities with plenty of hot water, especially as there were six youngstersThe walkers enjoyed walking the surrounding hills, one walk taking over six hours to complete, and we could see them in the distance from the lovely day room.We occupied the main bedroom and it was a delight waking in the morning and drawing back the curtains to see the sheep and young lambs outside our window. The furnishings throughout the house and barn were of a high quality."

"The location is amazing, although there were numerous cobwebs everywhere and the majority of ensuites are tiny. The beds were clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped but there isn’t enough seating in the living area for the 10 of us that stayed so we couldn’t sit and chat. we had to go out and buy a pack of cards and there’s usually these provided. Often there’s games and books too. There was very little info on the area, luckily we are fairly familiar with the area. No DVD player, radio, or anything else just a basic tv.If it weren’t for the views I wouldn’t return."
