Whether you are looking for a cosy cottage for two, or a larger place suitable for a group, Whitby has a lovely selection of cottages for you and your dog. Nestled on the Yorkshire coast, Whitby is surrounded by a National Park and has it's very own sandy beach. With so much open space available, what better place to book a dog friendly cottage.

    Dog friendly activities in Whitby

The North York Moors National Park which surrounds Whitby, is a great place to take you dog. For the best dog friendly walking, where your dog can run around with more freedom, head to the Forestry Commission Woods. In this wooded area there are tracks and paths as well as public rights of way to explore. After a long afternoon's walk, you can return to the peace of your dog friendly cottage for some relaxation.

Whitby has a great sandy beach, perfect for bracing winter walks. In the summer the east side beach continues to welcome so you and your dog can enjoy the sea and sand any time of year. If you want to head into town, there's no need to leave your dog behind. There are various attractions in Whitby that are dog friendly such as Crescent Gardens, Doddlepots and on the Old Glory Steam Bus.

Nearby you can visit Robin Hood's Bay, Runswick Bay, or Gladisdale.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Helen - Verified booking

We had a great time at Fauna’s Corner, it is situated in Captains Cooks Haven, which is quiet and peaceful and within easy walking distance to the centre of Whitby.

Our first impressions were of a well presented cottage, the kitchen is small but has all the appliances that you need, the fridge is old and rusty at the bottom of the door and needed defrosting. There were most things that we needed to cook a meal but we had to go buy a coffee maker as there wasn’t one provided also there wasn’t a colander for draining vegetables, pasta etc. The lounge and bedrooms were comfortable and well presented although surfaces were dusty. The bathroom was the room that let the whole place down, the hand basin is cracked and is set really low down. The shower is over the bath, but is very low as the roof slopes over the bath, I could only just stand up in the bath with my head touching the ceiling, at its highest setting the water from the shower head reached the middle of my shoulder blades, in order to get washed successfully the shower head has to be removed from the holder and hand held, washing my hair was a nightmare. I am 5’ 7” but my husband is 6’ 2” so he had more problems when showering, in fact he called it his daily limbo dance! We could have had a bath but that is very small too. The owners have tried very hard to make the cottage stylish and comfortable but for me I think fewer pictures and trimmings with the money spent on updating the bathroom would improve things greatly.

I so wanted to write a fantastic review as upon arrival we were delighted with the cottage.

The area is outstanding, the cottage is in a lovely position and initially we really found the cottage comfortable, bright and welcoming. There were 4 adults and one baby and there was space and comfort for all . However as the first day unfolded we found we had to wash the kitchen equipment, the light switches were sticky with dirt , the bathroom sink was cracked , you could not shower properly as the ceiling sloped down , there were not enough glasses for water or cider etc , the grill tray for the grill pan did not fit , really annoying. We had paid £900 for our 3 nights , I understand we payed more than usual as it was a special event weekend in Whitby, however I would have thought this afforded us the luxury of more than one toilet roll for 4 people !! The surprising thing was the owners very generously left us a superb bottle of gin , tonic waters and chocolates, but I wish they’d have spent the money on toiletries and glasses . I’m sorry to write this as we had a fabulous time and if these issues were addressed we would go back again .

We were very disappointed with this property as it was in need of a deep clean!

It was very grubby and had a fishy/fusty aroma! I'm not sure where to begin but to name a few, the toilet had urine and hairs on it, there was damp on the walls and ceilings and the kettle was so dirty we did not even want to make a cup of tea with it. The bed was so uncomfortable, we both had bad backs the next day - we may as well have slept on the floor! Cleanliness is not a luxury, it is a basic requirement and clean it was not! The booking for 3 nights was not cheap but it was so bad we left after the first night and made a booking elsewhere which was not what I expected to have to do on my birthday weekend away! We were disgusted that the owner refused a partial/full refund, had we known the state of the property, we would have never have booked it. I have never had to complain nor leave a bad review for a holiday before and I only wish I could upload the photos I took as evidence to show you how bad it was compared to the photos used for advertising!

      Wayside is an incredible property.

From the outside it looks small but inside it’s extremely roomy with three large double bedrooms (one has twin beds but could easily fit another couple of beds as it’s so big). Unlike some holiday cottages, this feels like a home from home with beautiful furnishings in the large living room making it so cosy. The kitchen is well equipped meaning you don’t need to take anything with you - nothing has been overlooked by an obviously very thoughtful owner. I’ve left the best until last - the views!! Spectacular views from every window in the house and garden, which backs onto a large field of free range chickens (we bought a dozen of their eggs and they were so tasty. There is a pub serving good food a few steps away and a railway station 2 minutes walk away that takes you to Whitby via some of the local villages. I cannot recommend this property enough. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us.

Fauna’s Corner felt like home from home the moment we stepped through the door .

So cosy and tastefully decorated with everything we needed for our week here. You can really see that a lot of love, care and attention has gone into this home . There was even a bottle of wine and biscuits waiting for us . We came as a couple , but would be great for a family with small children as there was a little play-area very close by . Spotlessly clean , cosy bed , compact bathroom ( you might struggle in the shower if you’re tall ) , kitchen had everything we needed… even a slow cooker . It’s position was perfect … peaceful …. near to the River , and the railway ( where the steam train regularly chugged by ) . A short walk ( 20 mins) along the Cinder Track took us into Whitby. I was unable to get a signal for my mobile phone at the cottage (I’m on ee) , but my husband did ( he’s on 02) so I just used his hotspot . It was quite nice to just switch off for a few days
