What our customers say about their holidays

    • Lisa - Verified booking

This property had pretty views from the sitting room, an open plan living area and bedrooms and bathroom situated downstairs, clean and pretty comfortable throughout .

There were various issues, some of which were down to us making assumptions on booking, some not. There is a lot of damp in the main sitting area, and the kitchen is very basic, not great if you want to cook. The cupboards are very high, we are not that tall and could barely reach. Oven looked new, no instructions on how to use it were provided though, so there was a lot of trial and error but we got there in the end! There is no washing machine (we of course should have checked and not assumed) three dogs and by a beach, plus good old English weather, meant we ran out of stuff very quickly. Strangely there is an airer and ironing board. The sitting area was comfy and we made up horror stories about the door in the ceiling :). The bedrooms were nice, particularly the larger room, the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was fine, tiled throughout, nice strong shower. The bathroom door kept jamming shut though and after getting stuck in there the first night, we had to leave it open. There is no outside space at all so you have to walk your dogs even if they want to go out at 2 am, in hindsight we should have checked on Google maps to see exact space ..a lesson learned! The property is set halfway up a hill, and the whole area is very steep, would not recommend to anyone with mobility issues. And although there is free onstreet parking, finding a space was very hit and miss, so be prepared to make many trips with your luggage! Good way to get your steps in though. Overall would recommend to anyone with a reasonable degree of fitness who wants a clean base from which to explore (assuming the damp and the sticky door get sorted) . Would not recommend to dog owners due to no outdoor space and no washing facilities, or to anyone with mobility issues. Hope people find this useful!

Bell cottage is a lovely small quirky cottage that unfortunately sits in a not too brilliant position.

Location isn’t great as it’s hemmed in by other big buildings and a big conversion is being carried out currently on the property opposite into an 11 flat house of multiple occupancy. Work began at 7 am and continued all day with the accompanying noise and comings and going’s. Obviously this is only temporary but it impacted my stay. The cottage smelt faintly doggy when I arrived and every time I returned..I’m not a dog person ,and this may not bother those who are. Despite that the cleanliness was absolutely fine. Good kitchen facilities..everything was perfect....slight issue with fire starter pack not being available that was quickly sorted with discussion with the owner..I hadn’t read the small print that this isn’t provided after the end of March...but the weather still being very cold at night I managed to buy some fuel from the nearby coal merchant Roger, who was most helpful. TV.....a major issue.....some expensive kit but no normal TV channels without going through a long winded laborious process using various app’s BBC’s I player, you tube etc....all a bit too complicated to even bother with. All in all..a nice cottage but spoiled for me mainly by the location...a tiny yard at the rear and nowhere outside at the front to sit..but I can’t blame anyone for that..it’s just the nature of this particular property. Thanks anyway...enjoyed the few days overall.

      Where to start.

.... This house is stunning. With the amazing warm pool and surplus of pool toys provided gave my children hours of fun as the weather was not great when we came. To the games room, separate from the main house, meaning noise from the children was never a problem. Everything was thought of down to the hair dryers in the room, the extra towels, the linen, the speakers, books, toys, games, Wifi. The list goes on and on! The owner was very attentive as we had a small issue with a loose tap in the bath, even bringing a bottle of Prosecco for our "trouble" even though it was no trouble at all! The location is perfect for visiting some beautiful beaches and villages, we were gutted we did not get to see everything as there was so much to do. The house is more of a home from home than my own home! it is by far the best UK holiday we have ever had and with 8 of us staying in one house, not getting on each others nerves is no easy feat, but with so much to do we managed just fine. We cannot wait to come back and cannot recommend this house enough with its impeccable service. One minuscule improvement would be, in the vast array of utensils, pots, pans and crockery... a large mixing bowl would be a welcome addition. We really had to dig deep to find that fault, we are British after all and complaining is our specialty! :)

Warm spacious accommodation exactly as described in the brochure.

There were ten of us staying for a family birthday in February, the four children (ages ranging from 5 to 13), had plenty to occupy them and the adults had plenty of space to get away from them if necessary! The property was more spacious than expected, very warm and well equipped with two fridge/freezers and two ovens and two small microwaves. There was a 'Dorset Happy Hamper' and milk in the fridge on our arrival which was a welcome surprise. All bedrooms had the same corner shower which worked well for us all but some people may find the space a bit tight. However the family bathroom was very spacious. The triple bedroom and one of the doubles are above the swimming pool and there was a slight hum from the boiler noticeable in both bedrooms. Although this did not disturb us, light sleepers may want to sleep in one of the other bedrooms. The property is set back from the main road with no noticeable traffic noise and there was ample parking for our four vehicles. It is a short stroll from the coastal path and a nice circular walk inland to see the chalk carving on the hill. None of our group wanted to leave and we had to drag the children out of the swimming pool on the morning we departed. A great holiday in a great property - thank you.

      Had a lovely week.

Photos accurate although there isn’t a picture showing the view out the front which is end of a cul de sac. Never any issue with parking so wasn’t a problem just not as pretty an outlook as the back. Downstairs is spacious. Upstairs bedrooms spacious, showers all small. Pool a welcome addition ( room warm water fresh ) Fans would be a great addition we took some and still bought some it was very warm upstairs specially in this heat. I do agree with a previous review that the outside seating could be improved. Ok for eating but uncomfortable for chilling. Not necessarily a new patio area I would have been more than happy to have sat on a comfortable chair on the lawn and moved it around following the sun. And yes it’s shady but can always find some sun. All in all a lovely week away with the family. Would I book again probably not. We found it a little isolated from shops and the sea. Had to driving to most places but that’s not a criticism of the property just our personal choice for our next booking. Folders for appliances and where to visit are there to read although the where and what to do would have been great downloadable as a pdf maybe to read before going. Thanks
