About this property

Resting in the heart of picturesque Warkworth in Northumberland, Westhill House is a charming Grade II listed cottage which has been lovingly restored and offers spacious and well-presented accommodation, perfect for a family holiday or small group of friends holidaying together. Stepping into the attractive sitting room and your holiday can begin with comfy seating inviting guests to come in, kick off their shoes and relax in front of the gorgeous woodburning stove. This is somewhere you can imagine spending a lot of time during your holiday catching up with each other and getting warm in the cooler months. The fully fitted kitchen is a chef’s delight with a range cooker just waiting to be utilised and when the food is ready to serve up, take a seat in the dining room at the rustic dining table located in front of stylish French doors opening onto the gardens at the rear of the property. Look forward to tucking into long, leisurely meals together here in the dining room or if the weather allows, then you can eat alfresco in the ample gardens which are set up ready for guests to enjoy spending time, whether it’s running around on the lawns for the kids (and any pets!) or taking a seat on a lounger or at the patio table for the grown-ups. All that fresh air will have tired everyone out, so you’ll be delighted to know there are three elegant bedrooms for guests to choose from, two king-sizes and a single. All offer a restful sanctuary which is ideal for laying your weary heads after an exhausting day of exploring. In the morning, take advantage of the spacious bathrooms by enjoying a long, relaxing soak in the bath or a quick, refreshing dip in the shower. Heading out from Westhill House couldn’t be easier with the delights of Warkworth on the doorstep, which is known for being home to the dramatic ruins of a 12th century castle. Its link to the past continues with the village’s selection of antique shops and galleries and it also has a beach and a golf course. Attractions in the area worth visiting include Hadrian’s Wall, Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island, the Farne Islands and Alnwick Gardens. Other beaches nearby worth packing a bucket and spade for include Alnmouth, Cresswell, Embleton and Newton Haven. A grand and stylish holiday home in the heart of a bustling coastal village, Westhill House offers its guests a wonderful and unforgettable holiday destination.

Lying in the loop of the River Coquet on the Heritage Coast, Warkworth is a picturesque village, dominated by the dramatic ruins of its 12th century castle. The history of the village and the castle are intertwined with the Percy Family who took over the castle in 1332. The Percys’ other home is nearby Alnwick Castle, most recently associated with Harry Potter as the film location of Hogwarts School. The main street is lined with Georgian and early Victorian houses and there is an exceptional range of galleries, antiques shops, a village shop/Post Office, pubs, restaurants and gift shops to suit all tastes. Warkworth has its own stretch of sandy beach and a 9 hole pay and play golf course. Also within easy touring distance are Hadrian’s Wall, Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island, the Farne Islands, several wonderful beaches and Alnwick Garden with its remarkable water cascade and Tree House Restaurant.

The house is lovely and clean, kitchen is really well equipped with a large range cooker - perfect for Christmas dinner. The fire in the tv room is lovely and makes it a really cosy room. We would definitely stay again.

The kitchen was very well equipped but I felt it was let down, a bit, by the "generic" welcome pack from Out of Eden. A pint of milk in the fridge, some Northumbrian tea/coffee and a packet of local biscuits would be much nicer. Can definitely recommend the Mason Arms for a pint and some good "pub grub" and the obligatory visit to Spurrelis in Amble for ice-cream :) Also discovered, this time, was the Drift Cafe in Cresswell and Brewis Beer in Amble (which does nice street food at the weekend) Been coming to Northumberland for 10 years now but this was our first visit to Warkworth and we will definitely be back.

The location is excellent and the house is well-equipped with plenty of space. I would thoroughly recommend Westhill House. This next bit is for the owners of the property only - not to be published: Areas for improvement: Please have new photos taken. These date from at least 2016 and the house is not as represented in the photos, for eg the single room is bland compared to the photo, the sitting room is a sofa down, the chairs in the dining room are different and there is no TV in the dining room (we did appreciate the extra seating). The new carpet is great but the two double rooms need the doors adjusting as the carpet thickness means that you can’t shut the door - no privacy! The lock on the main bathroom is hard to use, I would worry about a child getting stuck, it needs adjusting. Instructions for the heating stuck on the wall by the dial would be helpful. Not huge things but all points visitors notice!
