    Polruan Holiday Cottages

The South Coast is absolutely bursting with tiny fishing villages, each one with its own character. But without a doubt, you'll want to put the ancient shipbuilding village of Polruan on your list. If you're looking for an authentic outpost of Cornwall that hasn't yet been eaten up by tourism, this charming harbour on the mouth of the River Fowey must be it. And with St Austell Bay and the Eden Project just round the corner, you'll still be in easy reach of the Cornish hotspots.

At Snaptrip, we pride ourselves on our large range of Polruan holiday homes, with lots of availability throughout the year, even in peak times like Easter or August Bank Holiday. Families and large groups will love our farmhouses and barn conversions, offering bags of space for socialising, and large dog-friendly gardens for your furry friends. If you're planning a romantic break, try a special cabin or rural lodge, complete with a private hot tub for you to relax under the stars.

To really enjoy the South West's laid back beach lifestyle, you may want to book a cottage with sea views. The cottages that cascade down Polruan's hillside are perfect for that. Once you've had your fill of stunning views, you could take the old passenger ferry to Fowey and spend your day discovering this larger town's excellent shops and traditional pubs. As far as holidays in England and Wales go, this little Cornish village is hard to beat.

    More locations in Cornwall

Cornwall is absolutely full of picture-perfect harbourside towns. Go surfing in Newquay, enjoy the galleries of artsy St Ives or sample seafood in the foodie haven of Padstow, the choice is yours.

What our customers say about their holidays

I was so pleased when we arrived at Chapel Mead to find a lovely, clean property. The garden is fantastic and the view across the river is stunning. At the end of the garden, safely locked behind two gates, is a spiral staircase leading to a private cove. Our teenage children loved it! When the tide was out there was a cave to explore, rock pools and a place to lie in the sun. When the tide was high it was great for swimming. The upstairs bedrooms were spacious and airy and all of them had views of the river. In particular the room with the balcony was lovely as it was a great place to read and catch the sun. There was good wifi in all rooms which was a plus. I'd recommend taking your own portable bbq, lots of towels (there is a washing machine but not a dryer), tea towels, oven gloves, a sun lounger and binoculars. I'm sure if I looked hard enough I could find fault with the place but our overall impression was that it was a clean, spacious and well-equipped place in a great location. The road down to the property is incredibly narrow, as are all the streets in Polruan, so it might be worth walking down first so that you know where you are going. Look for two large wooden gates on the left. There is room to do a three point turn in the parking area on the property which is useful as once you have come down the hill it is very difficult to reverse up. At the moment, due to the pandemic, it is worth booking pubs and restaurants in advance. The Lugger, in Polruan, was great and you can book online beforehand to sit in or takeaway. Jam First does lovely takeaway sandwiches and The Russel Inn takeaway food and beer. We went on a boat trip with Fowey River Trips which took in all the sights and was well worth £8 a head. The foot ferry runs regularly to Fowey but it was nice to get back to the calm of Polruan. If you have any questions we found Tom, from Cornish Horizons, to be very helpful.

Stayed at Chapel Mead with family and friends. Chapel Mead is an absolutely beautiful home. I read a previous review on here stating that the house gave them ‘a hug’ and I know exactly what they meant. It was just wonderful to wake up to the stunning views of the estuary, hearing the birds singing in the garden and the beautiful butterflies! There was 7 of us in our party and there was plenty of space for us all. All of the upstairs rooms had fantastic views of either the estuary or the harbour, or both as one room was dual aspect! Luckily for us the weather was lovely, so sitting on the patio of an evening watching the gorgeous sunsets was a must! Also an added bonus was a spiral staircase at the bottom of the garden that takes you to a lovely little secluded cove. A two minute walk takes you to the village which has a small but very varied and well stocked shop and the 2 lovely pubs. We went to Fowey a few times on the foot ferry which was ideal. Also recommend the self boat hire which my husband and I loved. Had a fantastic week and all of us agreed that we would definitely return to this beautiful home and lovely Polruan.

As grandparents we took our family which included 6 adults and 4 children aged 2, 4, 5 & 7 in the last week of August this year. We had been very excited about going but were even more impressed when we arrived! It certainly has the wow factor in views…. Absolutely outstanding !! The highlight for us all was the Private Cove/Beach!!! This is accessed by a spiral staircase (2 locked gates). Go prepared for a Pirate Party! The house was very comfortable with plenty of room for the 10 of us and grounds were delightful for the children to play in. Yes there are slopes in the lawn but the 2 year old managed. Polruan is very quaint and although there is only a small stretch of sandy beach this was enough for the children on a couple of occasions. A few minutes by ferry across the estuary to Fowey was a lovely outing with a beautiful sandy beach. Looe is a must too …the best crab fishing ever. Not easy to find the entrance to the property and beware roads very narrow. We will definitely be recommending it to friends and hope to go back there soon.

We had a fabulous stay at The Ridge. The service from start to finish from Cornish Horizons has been amazing, Tom form the Fowey office even went down to the cottage to meet our Asda driver as we had been stuck in traffic in a very long journey! A-star customer service. The house is beautiful, it was spotlessly clean, every thing you needed for the week was in the cottage and the views speak for themselves! We loved having our morning coffee and evening wine in the conservatory! My niece (aged 2 years) loved the baby seagull that hatched on the roof while we were there! She named him Barry and even got a teddy seagull to take home to remind her of Barry!!! We will be back!!!

Garttee Cottage was in a great location. The reason for scoring is as follows. The garden could be lovely but access is difficult so we didn’t use it. Maybe some more accessible steps and/or pretty up the front garden? The soft furnishings were okay but the sofa has seen better days! The water pressure was excellent. The cottage had everything we needed. Minimalist but we like that. One small point, you can’t check in until 5pm which seems very late considering the cost and the local shop closes at 5pm so at least leave some tea bags and milk on arrival for guests. A nice gesture or move check in to 4pm which is more usual for similar rentals. Thank you for a great stay.
