    Holiday Cottages in Mousehole

Once donned 'the loveliest village in England' by poet Dylan Thomas, Mousehole (pronounced 'Mowzel') offers a quintessentially Cornish holiday break. Situated right on West Cornwall's South West Coast Path, the rollercoaster of rugged clifftop paths will suit dog owners and keen walkers. Meanwhile, Mousehole Harbour has to be one of the most beautiful in the county, with its smattering of colourful fishing boats, and narrow streets lined with white-washed cottages.

Our holiday homes in Mousehole, Cornwall, are ideally situated for a perfect seaside getaway. If you're looking for a romantic break, why not browse our snug lodges and stone-built cottages, and relax in your own private hot tub. Or if you're bringing your furry friend, our dog-friendly Mousehole cottages come complete with enclosed gardens and access to plenty of long walks along sandy beaches. From large family farmhouses to couples retreats, our Cornish holiday cottages cover it all.

The best thing about our Mousehole holiday cottages is that they all come with a best price guarantee, as well as special discounts and offers. We have availability throughout the year, so as well as enjoying Mousehole's balmy summer sea views, you can also experience a gorgeous Cornish Christmas. The multi-coloured Christmas lights that illuminate Mousehole's harbour wall are renowned for their gaudy elegance, and are well worth a winter seaside break.

    More locations in Cornwall

From the heart of Mousehole, it doesn't take long to reach some of Cornwall's most iconic locations. The spectacular Minack Theatre and rugged Lizard Point are two of our favourites, or you could try these holiday spots for a bit of variety.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Julie - Verified booking

We had a great holiday in Mowzel and in chapel Place.

Parking is right at the door and my estate car fitted in the space no problem. Just a small space, but worth its weight in gold in Mousehole. Did not use garden, as it was too cold in November. Used woodburner, took logs and kindling with us, but Tesco petrol station in Penzance sells these. Great cottage for access to Tremenheere and the Cape. St just was great. We visited St Ives, 30 mins away, but wouldn’t bother again….Very very steep hills. The no.1 deli is fab in Mousehole, just round the bend from The Ship. We had amazing and delicious meals on the front, both at no.1 and also in Deli Kitchen. In fact the food all week has been incredible. Back to the cottage. The downstairs shower room, I’d off the sitting room, so we only used the downstairs loo. Upstairs there was a Hypnos mattress. With a white company quilt in the main bedroom. Although the bed is smaller than were used to, a 5’ double we both slept through each night. I loved the small en-suite. However, I’m 5’ and a sized 10. My husband could not fit in there. The main shower room, which services the other 2 bedrooms was his to use. So in all 2 doubles, one twin. One en-suite and 2 shower rooms, it’s like the tardis! The kitchen/diner was small, but perfectly fitted out. Everything we needed was there for leisure’s breakfasts, whilst we planned our day. Dishwasher, great microwave, oven and a washer (did not use washing machine). We took our own dishwasher tabs, but some were provided. Plenty of loo rolls too! We’ve stayed in some cottages, where the basics were not there whem]n we arrived, but in 2 chapel place…tea/coffee/milk, biscuits and plenty of loo rolls/fairy liquid and dishwasher tabs. We had a great holiday in Mousehole and were lucky to be there on bonfire night. The fireworks over the harbour were spectacular and I will never forget that feeling of being joyful and reminiscent of childhood days, just magical. People with sparklers in the beach, gathered round harbour wall to watch 30 mins of oooohhh’s and aaaarrrgh’s. Soon be Christmas lights and I only wish we were heading back to chapel place for what would be another memorable holiday. Thank you to the owners of Chapel Place, it was lovely and you’ve got a really nice home in Mousehole. The only thing that would be nice…A Radio in the kitchen.

We really enjoyed staying at Mole Cottage and thought that it offered good value for money for the week in February that we chose.

It is furnished nicely and described quite accurately on most counts and well provided with kitchen equipment. It had evidently had a decor refresh through the preceding weeks and was in great condition and very clean. Quite small and possibly could be challenging space-wise having 4 people in the property. A few thoughts; 1. The welcome pack with Scones and Shortbread was a nice gesture and much appreciated. 2. It might be worth having someone switch on the heating (or at the very least leave it on 14 celsius tickover) ahead of guests arriving in the Winter mpnths - it took two days to get the place reasonably warm, thereafter it was fine and warm. 3. Parking - We think the issues around car parking in Mousehole should be made more conspicuous in the listing as even in Winter we had trouble getting parked some evenings. In Summer it must be an absolute nightmare and we would have been very disappointed if this had not been made clear beforehand. The prospect of having to use the Mousehole bus and park in Penzance would not have been well received. 4. Stairs - I think greater emphasis in the listing should also be given to the steps, the lower stairs and their steepness. The listing does mention this but it needs greater emphasis. The stairs from the living area down to the kitchen / bathroom are very narrow and steep, as are the entrance steps. We are both very fit, able bodied people yet we felt that anyone who was in any way limited in their physical confidence or mobility would really struggle to cope with these stairs and front steps, this should be very clearly highlighted. There is no way to avoid the lower stairs as they are the only access to the kitchen and bathroom. Likewise if we had had young children these stairs would have presented a considerable risk. This needs to be explicitly clear in the listing. However, Mole Cottage is in a great location in Mousehole, quiet, comfortable and very clean. Taking the above points into consideration we would recommend but only to able bodied guests or those with children aged perhaps 8 upwards. It is not suitable for anyone with any mobility issues or who is not confident about using steep stairs or steps.

We reported several issues during our stay; 1: Hall lighting - non existent.

Reported Monday 19th June - resolved Friday 21st June with electrician in attendance. 2: Main bathroom lighting - only 1 of 2 inadequate wall lights working - bulb was completely missing and had never been replaced leaving the room incredibly dark given the dark wooden slat blind (required to be down at all times due to the property to the rear). With a shower over the bath and no handles or non slip bath mat it didn't feel very safe. We checked the understairs cupboard but no bulb there to fit. Reported on Monday 19th June - never resolved during our entire stay. 3: The downstairs shower wasn't getting warm at all and the shower head was broken. Shower curtain sits too high above the tray so the moment the shower was switched on the entire floor was soaking wet. Reported 19th June - plumber arrived Wednesday 26th and was never resolved. 4: Major issue with flies from the middle weekend - Saturday 24th June onwards. They appeared to be coming from inside the very rotten sash windows which was really unpleasant with 30-40 emerging each time approx 3 times a day for the rest of our stay! Reported and never resolved. This house requires an awful lot of maintenance and the garden is incredibly overgrown. The beds creak constantly. The floorboards either side of the bath are rotting. The kitchen equipment is so basic without so much as a serving spoon. The fact that the washing machine is in an incredibly musty outhouse should be mentioned in the details to prospective customers. The information folder for the house was hidden inside the meter cupboard above the breakfast bar and should be on full view for arriving guests. Why were you not aware of the issues we raise as surely they should have been reported back by cleaners during the turnaround between guests and should have been rectified? We have asked for a cost adjustment for our holiday and I understand that this has been passed to the relevant team and I look forward to hearing from you.

The house is charming and comfortably furnished.

The “short walk” to the house is quite a bit longer and steeper than expected, but it is a historic house in a very historic town. And the surfaces were quite clean. However, some things were less charming. Getting the upstairs toilet to flush reliably requires keeping the tank lid off so that it would fill enough to empty. It took us the first day to find that solution and it was a nuisance even once we solved the problem. The kettle in the kitchen is unusable. Someone tried to cook in it at some point, and the inside is foul. There are no cutting boards, which complicated cooking and even cutting fruit for snacks. The bed in the main bedroom was too firm for us. The washing machine is in an outdoor shed, which was an inconvenience as it was raining during much of our visit. Lastly, working with Sykes was very difficult and unpleasant. There were no contact numbers in our email, so we couldn’t call anyone when we reached the house and couldn’t figure out how to get in. There was a phone number for the local maintenance team inside the house, but we couldn’t get in to get it. That information should have been included in the very long email that Sykes sent us.

An immaculate, characterful property a stone's throw from Mousehole harbour.

The double bedroom is bright and airy, with a comfy bed and a lovely view (from the quaint diddy side window) over to the craggy rocks of St Clement's Isle. The living room somehow managed to find the balance between cosy and pleasantly spacious too. There was a very thoughtful welcome package with a pint of milk and sweet treats left for me. Sadly, since I'm vegan, I wasn't able to enjoy these -- but the gesture was appreciated! There's a great deli and cafe just over the street from the property, and the village offers a small but mighty selection of venues for dining and drinks. Newlyn, just up the road via the regular Mouse bus, also has some great little foodie spots too. Potential guests with mobility issues should bear in mind the steepness of the stairs up to the front door and the stair journey that's needed to access the kitchen and bathroom. One small niggle was having to turn the hot water and heating on/off manually every time it was needed. The electric bin lid in the kitchen didn't seem to be working also, though these things can happen of course. However, my overall stay was a pleasure and I'd most definitely head back in a heartbeat!
