What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mr Crossing - Verified booking

This property is in a great location near the facilities and wonderful views (less the fact it is very difficult to access due to the narrow road, for very small cars only, and a steep hill which was a problem for the older members of my family, which really should be strongly mentioned more in the general description), it could be a really outstanding property with more care and maintenance. Unfortunately the basic expectations and high standards of a 5 star property as per the Original Cottages Website are not met. This is a 8 bed space property, with only 7 chairs for dining, some of the furniture is broken or in decline, there are lots of chips, marks and stains on the walls, making the place look tired. The toilet seat & bin are in a poor state and the handle to the toilet door falls off in use (middle toilet). We were horrified that there are no mattress protectors on the beds and there are disgusting stains on the mattresses and there were hairs on the some of mattresses and sheets. There was a large amount of dust and hair under the beds/furniture. Its such a shame as its a lovely property, just lacking the basics, for example there is no where to hang coats, only an old coat rail with only 2 pegs left for 8 people? On arrival the dish washer was full of dirty dishes, the right hand oven had burnt food all over it and stunk of fish (we could not use it all week, it was that bad). The light blue chair in the front room is of very poor quality, try sitting in it for a period of time! A really serious note is the Health and Safety Hazzard of the sunken entrance and metal strip which would stick up at the front hallway right outside the living room, this caused numerous members of my family (both young and old) to fall/trip, luckily there were no serious injuries, but this needs to be addressed now. From the photos, I had high expectations, this was a family holiday I had planned for a long time to treat them to a lovely location and property, it is not cheap, but some aspects of it felt cheap, but we made do and tried to not let it spoil our holiday, Looe and the surrounding area is a fantastic place!

DON'T DRIVE TO THE HOUSE - THE ROAD IS TOO NARROW! Although the information stated that the road was narrow, it isn't clear that it won't be suitable for most vehicles. We have a mid-sized car (Ford C-Max) and had 1/2 inch clearance on each side at times and the hills were very steep with sharp bends. It was incredibly challenging and we were lucky to escape with a small scratch on the car - we saw other cars on the road sustain much worse! There is a local man (Pete - Looe Luggage Transfer) who will take luggage up and down to the house in his quad bike and trailer at a very reasonable rate (£8). Definitely recommended (on Facebook and 07810644449). Aside from the road, we were incredibly lucky with the weather we had. The house itself was nice - amazing views and the balcony on the front gets the sun all afternoon and evening. Everything was comfortable and clean, although there were a few issues with the bathroom on the top floor. The living space is much smaller than it appears in the photos - we struggled to seat seven of us around the table in the kitchen and had to use the breakfast bar as overflow seating. The hills to walk up and down between the town and the property were very steep so be prepared for quite a hard walk up.

Even though we were aware that the property has been recently refurbished, it exceeded expectations!

Everything has been recently replaced or decorated from the kitchen to the bathroom, carpets, furniture, the lot! We enjoyed the comfort of the lounge and the tv package also has sky cinema for the evenings. Breakfast on the balcony was a lovely way to start each morning. You can see the sea just over the field The location is fantastic. The property is in a quiet close and you are about 10 mins walk to the coastal path where you can walk to polperro (about 40 mins) or Talland Bay (about 15mins). The coast path is stunning. We saw Seals but several people mentioned seeing a pod of about 15 dolphins in Talland Bay the day before. It’s also just off the main road to Polperro, meaning you can quickly get on the main road in the morning and visit places further afield if you wish. We’d also recommend the pub at the caravan park a few minutes walk away and it’s worth mentioning that they do food and takeaway service too. Some take aways in Looe also deliver for a small delivery fee. There are designated spaces for parking of the carport or garage and while both can be squeeze (especially if there are other cars in the close) it is no hardship to park around the corner 50-100 yards away

We liked the property it ticked the main boxes that we need for a holiday, it was quiet, private, warm, plenty of hot water, clean and comfortable bed.

Even though there are neighbours either side you can't actually see them as the property is surrounded by tall trees. Lanreath is a very quiet little village and there are safe walks from the property suitable for mobility scooter. Looe is only 6 miles away and Fowey close by via the ferry. Bodmin about 20 minutes away. The conservatory is a nice place to sit and take in the quiet and the sofa in there is comfortable. I think a few improvements would make the property even more appealing, the bathroom whilst perfectly useable could do with an upgrade and we had an issue with the shower door which the owner arranged repair the same day which we really appreciated. Its only a personal preference but I would remove some of the trees at the back to open the lovely view over the fields towards Bodmin from the conservatory. But all in all a nice place to visit.

Very happy to recommend Verbena after staying there for a week’s holiday. The cottage is very clean and comfortable and in a great position, being down on the flat in the town was ideal, no hills to climb unless you want to! There is a lovely pub (The Jolly Sailor) a short walk away and 2 very handy convenience stores nearby. It is in West Looe where there are several restaurants and pubs and within easy walking distance to East Looe. The cottage is a positioned a few minutes walk from the ferry which takes you across to the east side and you can get on the Looe Land Train which takes you on a great ride around the town, you can get on and off at various locations. All in all had a great time and would highly recommend.
