What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mr Mears - Verified booking

Darley Cottage is a very quaint and entertainingly quirky. My father of 92yrs was easily able to negotiate the first flight of stairs to the bathroom and first floor bedroom. He is quite mobile, but can't walk at any real pace or cover long distances. We had a mobility scooter that we could dismantle easily and alo put back together in five mins flat. This enabled us to park the car in Millpool carpark and walk to the property where the scoot was easily stored in the main lounge are. We were only two in number, so four and five people staying at this property may find this storage of a M/S a bit too constrictive to available space. I think better instructions could be left for the use of the multi function cooker, as I took a little while working out how to choose the right function for operations. Out of season was really enjoyable at Darley Cottage, but I think high season would mean you would have to like live music from the public house on the corner of the street at weekends. The parking of a car isn't ideal, but can be worked around, even in poor weather conditions. On the whole, I would have to say that my father and I really enjoyed a comfortable stay at Darley Cottage, so thank you for ease of access and leaving arrangements.

Even though we were aware that the property has been recently refurbished, it exceeded expectations!

Everything has been recently replaced or decorated from the kitchen to the bathroom, carpets, furniture, the lot! We enjoyed the comfort of the lounge and the tv package also has sky cinema for the evenings. Breakfast on the balcony was a lovely way to start each morning. You can see the sea just over the field The location is fantastic. The property is in a quiet close and you are about 10 mins walk to the coastal path where you can walk to polperro (about 40 mins) or Talland Bay (about 15mins). The coast path is stunning. We saw Seals but several people mentioned seeing a pod of about 15 dolphins in Talland Bay the day before. It’s also just off the main road to Polperro, meaning you can quickly get on the main road in the morning and visit places further afield if you wish. We’d also recommend the pub at the caravan park a few minutes walk away and it’s worth mentioning that they do food and takeaway service too. Some take aways in Looe also deliver for a small delivery fee. There are designated spaces for parking of the carport or garage and while both can be squeeze (especially if there are other cars in the close) it is no hardship to park around the corner 50-100 yards away

Pixie Cottage is a very old fisherman’s cottage and was built when people were shorter than now.

I’m 5’ 9” or 1m 75cm for those that think that way. I managed to go a whole week without banging my head on the staircase, only doing so on the last morning. For anyone taller I would just say heed the warnings or you’ll collect a good few bruises. Also, you will have to crouch when using the shower as there was barely an inch or so of clearance between my head and the ceiling. Other than that the cottage is great, superbly equipped and only a short walk from the centre of Looe. However, that walk is relatively steep, especially if you opt to turn left and take the short route. You have to bear in mind that we hail from Cambridgeshire where it is relatively flat. I would say that if you have mobility issues I could not recommend staying here but if you are generally fit I would have no reservations whatsoever in saying it’s a great place to stay.

We liked the property it ticked the main boxes that we need for a holiday, it was quiet, private, warm, plenty of hot water, clean and comfortable bed.

Even though there are neighbours either side you can't actually see them as the property is surrounded by tall trees. Lanreath is a very quiet little village and there are safe walks from the property suitable for mobility scooter. Looe is only 6 miles away and Fowey close by via the ferry. Bodmin about 20 minutes away. The conservatory is a nice place to sit and take in the quiet and the sofa in there is comfortable. I think a few improvements would make the property even more appealing, the bathroom whilst perfectly useable could do with an upgrade and we had an issue with the shower door which the owner arranged repair the same day which we really appreciated. Its only a personal preference but I would remove some of the trees at the back to open the lovely view over the fields towards Bodmin from the conservatory. But all in all a nice place to visit.

Property was immaculate & very well appointed and was a wonderful base for our holiday.

There is a partial sea view from the decking area - this is ideal for taking in the sun whilst relaxing with a drink & book etc. Parking was available (carport & garage), but access was sometimes challenging due to other residents cars. There is a small shop in the Fowlers caravan site next door. This is great for any essentials that you need, since the nearest supermarkets are some distance away (Liskeard). There is a small shop in the village of Pelynt which is a 10 minute drive. The walk into Polperro is either via the coastal path or via a quiet lane. It is downhill to Polperro but steep uphill on the way back. Polperro is delightful & the pubs are highly recommended for food & local ales.
