"West Burton in Wensleydale is a beautiful village with some real gems to it. The waterfall is gorgeous, the lack of traffic is most appealing and the pub, The Fox and Hounds was great. Excellent choice of real ales, good pub food, friendly staff and locals. The apartment (which wasn’t what we originally booked - the roof collapsed on that one 😳 so we were moved to this one. Bigger but not a bath which we’d have preferred) was undoubtedly stunning and expensively furnished...... about 15 or 20 years ago.!! It was simply tired and in need of a re-Dec. The pictures were obviously taken some time ago.Communications from the owners were non-existent. As recommended, we called in advance to confirm and on the day of arrival - answer phone. We called several times just double checking and wanting to advise e.t.a. - answer phone. Turns out they were away on hols! There was a note from the cleaner and the key was in the door. Lack of human contact aside, (we saw nobody all week and left the key in the door on departure), there was no tangible welcome of any sort. We’ve rented self catering apartments and cottages many times before and often you find a welcoming note with tea/ coffee/ biscuits or even occasionally a bottle of wine and fresh flowers.... in this case? Absolutely nothing! ☹️Not even a small bar of guest soap in the bathroom or a j-cloth in the kitchen.🤨Hmmmm ..... 🤨"

"The Buttery is a small and Bijou accommodation; for all that it is comfortable, clean and well appointed. The kitchen area was small but had all we needed to cook whatever meals we required. The bathroom was very well appointed, both for those who like to shower and for those who like bath. The main room was warm in inclement weather, and you can expand outside in the fine weather, to have a BBQ or just sip a glass or two or three, be it white, red, pink, or amber, whilst taking in the sounds of nature. The area was very good for walking and we enjoyed plenty of those. Of these the walk around Semer Water invigorating and ideal for removing the stiffness of a long drive to Countersett. Another was the walk to Bainbridge, see if you can find the old tank used for communal Wenslydale cheese making in the lane towards Bainbridge. Which brings me to the fact that the visitor must take a trip into Hawes and try the cheese there. Personally I loved the blue. On the downside we did find it very light in the morning with the early sun, and being late May early June that was early indeed. Apart from that we enjoyed our stay here and will probably go back in the future."

"We had a lovely 4 days in this superb cottage. Travelled up on a cold November evening. Finding the cottage was not a problem, directions were excellent. Cottage was very luxurious, lovely living room with open fire, which was laid ready to light. Very soon, the cottage was warm and toasty! Kitchen was well laid out and well equipped with loads of character. Upstairs were two comfortable double bedrooms and a lovely bathroom. The cottage had wi- fi too, which was very handy. Middleham is a lovely Yorkshire village, with plenty of facilities, including 4 pubs, fish and chip shop, Chinese takeaway, and village store. We preferred to do our shopping 2 miles up the road in Leyburn, where there was a fantastic local grocery store as well as a Coop. The cottage was in a perfect location, right on the edge of the dales. We suggest a trip to Hawes, nice shops and cafes, and the Cheese factory with plenty of samples! We had a great short break in this cottage, my partner and I got engaged during our stay and would love to stay again. Many thanks for a lovely holiday!"

"The cottage was full of character and was very well equipped with everything needed. It had a very nice modern bathroom which looked to be recently installed. There was a stove which was set ready for use but despite the weather not being very good the cottage was still cosy enough not to need it . There was also the nice touch of milk, t bags and biscuits supplied for a cuppa as soon as we arrived. The market square with a good choice of restaurants and tea rooms was just a 2 minute walk down a lane at the side of the cottage. The parking area at the cottage was quite tight and we were advised not to drive on down the lane as the bottom of the car might hit the ground. We did try as it would have been difficult otherwise and managed o.k but it might depend on type of car. Also a name sign outside would have been good as we were not sure if we were at the right property."

"Booked our mini break at short notice & we were delighted with our choice.Situated in a lovely setting on the owners grounds with room for the dog to run & the river area to do some fishing. Our accommodation was more of an apartment as you went up a stairs . We had no problem with this & the dog was very happy too.Comfortable clean accommodation for 4 people but there was only 2 of us so plenty of room .Bathroom was lovely only negative was the shower it was impossible to set & no water pressure. We only had breakfast in & eat out every day.We never saw the owners as others said (not a problem for us ) there is also no welcome pack so bring your own . Short walk to the village lovely local pub & shop & very friendly .The spectacular waterfall is also in the village .Wonderful walks & amazing scenery.Take me back I miss it so much ."
